Love Gresham College, they have an interesting collection of lectures on video and mp3. - hbyrne, on 12/27/2008, -2/+14Really enjoy these fora.tv submissions. Always thought-provoking.

- samcrut, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4You can extract clean drinking water from urine with a cup, some clear plastic, a shovel, and some small rocks.
Dig a hole. Piss in it to muddy up the dirt in the hole. Put the cup in the center of the hole. Drape the plastic over the hole and put rocks around the edge. Put a small rock on the plastic right over the cup so any condensation will drip in the cup.
The sun will heat up the piss and make water vapor. The vapor will condense on the plastic and drip into the cup.
It also works with extracting moisture from vegetation. Just put it in the hole. - hiixhii, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Does anyone remember the new invention by the guy that brought us the Segway?? He can extract clean drinking water from anything even urine!! http://asap.ap.org/stories/240474.s
- chrissku, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3We have pushed the resources of our planet to the breaking point. The earth simply cannot sustain the rapidly growing population. Mother nature will heal itself by culling our population. We will see a rise in disease, poverty, starvation, and lack of natural resources until our population is brought down to a manageable number. Let's face it folks....we're at the breaking point.
- CloakandSwagger, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3Yes.
Dean Kamen's "Slingshot", a water purification/electricity generator in one.
I remember him showing it off on the Colbert Report.
I'd like to know why it hasn't received more coverage, because as far as I know nobody has been able to disprove the functionality of the invention.
Engadget's article on the Slingshot: http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/dean-kamen-aims ...
In case the link doesn't register, just google the article title: "Dean Kamen aims to clean water, generate electricity with Slingshot machine" - adkenc, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3tell that to the best buys watering the pavement.

- samcrut, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2Is it really so hard to turn ocean water into steam and condense it?
- frsrblch, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2I don't think NoScript likes fora.tv very much...
- slashdotordigg, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2dugg for intellectual video. we need to start making digg more productive. As we just started paying attention to energy, we should pay attention to water as well. Historically there were great droughts in the past and even in the States, some people need assistance for fresh water. Great video again i thank you for posting.

- nirav72, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1One problem. In order to create steam, it requires lots of energy. Energy which we won't have in the future if fossil fuels become hard to find.
- manzplan, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1I get my water from a well.. I kid you not!

- Groovydoo, on 12/27/2008, -2/+2I heard this same crap in the 70's: There would be no food, no oil, massive overpopulation, an ensuing ice age and people in my home town of Los Angeles would be wearing gas masks due to smog - it just went on and on ad absurdum.
Has it ever occurred to anybody that the human race will adapt and develop technology to alleviate these situations like it always has? Desalination is an option, pipelines and reservoirs too? We are all ready talking about here in L.A. - Kivenkantaja, on 12/28/2008, -0/+0Why can't I skip back to the start?
Also why does that dude's beard look like he's been eating blackberries (not the phone) before giving the lecture? - vinnyvenus, on 12/27/2008, -2/+2Like hippies, nothing is going to happen to us. Stop sensationalizing everything.
