- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -2/+21I hope his diet consists of Green Eggs and Ham. Ba dum ching!
- Gooba, on 12/15/2008, -0/+16I sent a copy of the Lorax along with a letter talking about drilling in ANWR to President Bush back in 2000. The Thneed is such a good analogy to oil it just fit perfectly. I got back a rather standard letter, it seems I didn't change his mind.
This is still one of my favorite books. "I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues." - AmyVernon, on 12/14/2008, -0/+14My kids love this story, as well as all the others by Dr. Seuss, frankly.
- lumpking69, on 12/15/2008, -3/+14dug for pic that has nothing to do with the article!
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -3/+13I work in a Thneed factory, making my living, so my Barbaloot family can eat at Thanksgiving
Is it really my fault that my boss is a jerk? Don't you eco-freaks realize, us people need work!
And if cutting down Truffulas means I can pay bills, can't you tree huggers live with just one more landfill? - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+9I was kidding, you self righteous, joke hating Diggers!
Does burying me make your ego grow bigger?
Was my message unclear, or are you really so dense
as to take my mere rhyme as such high an offense?
Perhaps if I wrote about Linux or Mac
I could shelter myself from your bury attack.
Would a link to the Huffington Post be alright?
Should we watch episodes of Diggnations all night?
Or maybe I could bring up ol' Congressman Paul
(Who lost, what a shame, that big race afterall)
Or should I just post a generic response
With a liberal twist and a cool nonchalance
That won't garner attention from any one man
... you know what? It's not worth it. I'll go back to 4chan. - moofree, on 12/14/2008, -0/+8Time to put Thneeds on the market.
- Garofoli, on 12/15/2008, -0/+8This was my favorite Seuss book.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -1/+9Looooooooooooooooooooorax!
- jotate, on 12/15/2008, -0/+8Lorax in cartoon form: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6650219631 ...
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -1/+8Green kids? Where's my shotgun?!
- Ric33r, on 12/15/2008, -0/+6I do not like green eggs and ham.
- OaklandMatt, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5My favorite book growing up too...
- mikeoncampus, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5We just did a report on the Lorax for my Environmental Studies class. You'd be surprised how closely its tied into everything we cover
- okyourturn, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5That's cool that you sent that :)
- MechanicalZack, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5Definitely one of the best pieces of literature to be published.
- avsfan987, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4It's funny that this was brought up. I actually had to watch The Lorax for one of my business classes because it deals with conspicuous consumption. It's very interesting how a story for children has many true environmental undertones.
- pe5t1lence, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees.
- dualscreenman, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3I loved the video when I was a kid. I didn't even get that it was trying to make a message.
But now it just depresses me. :(
It's a work of art nonetheless. - wonderbriefs, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3Here you go. http://www.instantrimshot.com/
- Th3Wh1teRabb1t, on 12/15/2008, -1/+4I'm the Lorax! I speak for the trees!
I had this video on VHS now, thanks to the internet here it is online:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6650219631 ...
(it is a movie made for kids, so there are a few songs, but it's still really good): - jfdolier, on 12/15/2008, -1/+4Dugg for the wicked Whale Shark.
- subsocial, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3Here's a Dr. Seuss comic from WWII that also has an uncanny relevance:
http://orpheus.ucsd.edu/speccoll/dspolitic/pm/1942 ... - Garofoli, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3Pic unrelated.
- laughtears, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3did you know Capt. Kangaroo, Dr. Suess + Mr. Rogers all went to Dartmouth. go figure
- JerodSlay, on 12/15/2008, -1/+4thumbnail fail.
- rotundo, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3I do not like them, Sam I am.
- Sornos, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Mine as well. I had the big hardcover one. I wonder where that book is now...
- W00DR0W, on 12/15/2008, -1/+3He was ahead of the curb in the 50s as well when he was adamantly against racial discrimination in his editorial cartoon.
(Ok he did have it in for the Japanese a little bit but Pearl Harbor was their 9/11) - okyourturn, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2...and the Lorax (a "mossy, bossy" man-like creature), who speaks for the trees against the greedy Once-ler.
- c010rb1indusa, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2The short film is excelent as well
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Watched a special on discovery channel over the weekend that said we could make fuel out of trees and regrow an unlimited supply of trees, ending our dependence on oil. Logging trees is now green!!
- Spoomeister, on 12/15/2008, -1/+3I am the self-important hypocritical douchebag who flies jet planes to environmental conferences, I speak for the trees.
- EvilGunOwner, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2When I was in kindergarten (1990-1991), the teachers made the class green eggs and ham after reading the story. Great memory. Parents should do the same for their children! Make it a tradition.
- mmurray21, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2I bought a bunch of Dr Suess books of ebay not even knowing about the Lorax. We loved the book. It has such a great story and the art work is great as well. Its a true work of art.
- iloveobama, on 12/15/2008, -1/+3GO GREEN!!!! GO GREEN!!!!
- triblinator, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Wow! Wow! Rowdy dow!
- iammzac, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Digg loves their unrelated picture captions.
- Norumeni, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1I had the big hardcover too! I always hated the gloves coming out of the wagons...creepy....
- JerodSlay, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1great way for me to know to block you.
- Ysabetwordsmith, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Dr. Seuss actually scored a very high rate of predicting what issues would be hot several decades down the road. Racism. Environmental degradation. Surrogate motherhood.
- bardamu, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Dr Seuss gets read nightly to my children. I think I enjoy it more than they do.
- MasterMahan, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Upvote for the awesomeness that is Dr. Seuss.
- deweyhewson, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1The truly sad thing are those people who, when they read these books or watch the movies, say, "Oh yes, that's terrible! How horrible!"
But then when they are confronted with real-life situations will nearly bite your head off for daring to say we should conserve the environment, treat people equally, or question authority in general.
Unfortunately, a large segment of the population are made up by those people. - emjaymj, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1This one in particular was my favorite Dr. Seuss story as a kid, 15-20 years ago.
- Pentagarn, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1♫ Under the trees, eating truffula fruit ♫
- molochi, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1You were never graded on a curve in school?
- rjhomuth, on 12/15/2008, -1/+2It's probably the LSD he undoubtably did.
- vortex22222, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Tambourine?
- thegrubixcube, on 12/15/2008, -0/+0Interestingly enough, The Lorax was banned in the Laytonville, California School District on grounds that it "criminalizes the forestry industry."
