- eyloni, on 03/22/2008, -1/+8When they get to San Francisco I'll aks them to take a look at my VW Golf.
- alamandrax, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1diesel?
- ecobites, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2Thanks for the shout
- starbabe, on 03/22/2008, -1/+3Great idea, make the most efficient cars even better.
- MetroMPG, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Fitting that the idea of innovation is being encouraged on the 100th anniversary of the original race, when the automobile itself was fresh technology.
- ObamaWins08, on 03/22/2008, -4/+2Wow,must be a Coach or Prada...
- DreadBlog, on 03/22/2008, -4/+2Can someone please go work out how much pollution this race is going to cause?
Want to save the planet? Dont drive!
Damn hippies.- schnikies79, on 03/22/2008, -0/+4Want to save the planet? Be realistic!
- IgWannA, on 03/22/2008, -1/+6we need to get off oil completely. making a 100mpg car isn't going to make any significant impact in our oil consumption. they should be giving prizes for renewable energy powered cars.
- Thinker10, on 03/22/2008, -0/+4I think they're called legs.
- IgWannA, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1not so. these days, farms use 2000 calories of oil for every calorie of food they produce. it wasn't always like this. in 1944 it was the reverse, about 2400 calories of food were produced for every calorie of oil used. so food, which powers your legs, isn't really a renewable energy source.
- soulkitchen, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2"making a 100mpg car isn't going to make any significant impact in our oil consumption" are you kidding.
While i agree that our final goal should be a 100% renewable energy car, how can you not see this as a valuable transition phase while the R&D teams work that out?
- bicyclethief, on 03/22/2008, -0/+4My money is on Fred Flintstone and his wheels/feet hybrid.
- allaboutdatiki, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Why limit it to just Prius on a cross-country trip?
- ericbecky, on 03/22/2008, -0/+0For this MPG Challenge we wanted each team to begin with a common platform. We selected the Prius due to the large number of them produced and the fact that they are still in production
- lostarchitect, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2so you can win the race even if you don't get 100 mpg, you just don't get the million? hmm... do you think a corvette engine would fit in a prius?
- bigbill780, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2So let me get this right, we are driving cross country to save gas? Makes sense...
- MewtwoReturns, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2"If the winning team gets over 100 MPG over the entire trip they will take home the Great Race Innovation Prize of $1 Million, TO BE GIVEN TO THE SCHOOL'S SCHOLARSHIP FUND."
The actual winners would never see a penny, which is a shame.- MetroMPG, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1Perhaps, but I bet they'd stand a good chance of winning a scholarship. :D
- gcnaddict, on 03/22/2008, -1/+1*sigh* This competition is totally useless.
- TurboTex, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1"teams will compete to get the best fuel economy while driving cross-country"
This has to be a joke..
People who drive hybrids, to save the world from bad emissions, are going to produce more for the sake of a competition across the country.. - 1127y, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1why are people all about the prius, good mileage exists already, they're called diesels.
even big bmw 5 series diesels get better mileage than crap ass fad prius', not to mention Volkswagen lupo's and jettas.
in terms of diesels polluting more than hybirds, diesel technology, especially bluetec from Mercedes, have made diesels much cleaner than hybrids.
so cleaner, and with better mileage.... hmmm, people gotta start buying prius' cause celebrities have them, and most celebrities need to grow a brain
