- MacBookForMe, on 11/20/2008, -4/+21I hope this is an indication of more to come from the next administration.
- CarStan, on 11/21/2008, -3/+13So what? I plant a huge amount of biomass on YOUR mom's face every night...
- CarStan, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9Great. I'm currently studying "Mathematical Biology" over here in Germany. One of the main aspcects is optimization modeling of bio-gas and biomass plants.
Seems like there'll be a lot of employment opportunities in the US. - jboitnott, on 11/20/2008, -4/+12Could it be that he is actually serious about a new green economy? Maybe that will be what gets us out of our financial mess.
- traveler1217, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9It's a good sign when there are students like yourself studying in areas with tremendous future potential, especially if we have a president with some foresight who does not have his head stuck up his ass or who does not kiss the ass of large corporate interests in perpetuating oil and suppressing alternative energy development, or who kisses the ass of anti-intellectual fundamentalist christian groups. What's so pathetic here in the USA is that there are a dearth of students entering the sciences and engineering fields and instead study business, finance or communications, motivated by the $$$$ and glamor. At least we used to be very good at attracting scientific talent from all over the world with opportunities to apply their technical and scientific know-how here in the USA by rewarding them well and generously funding scientific research, but with our last president, research funding has stagnated and draconian immigration security policies have made it a disincentive for scientific and engineering talent to come here and stay. Still, with our current President Obama, I hope new opportunities will start to open up for people like you to come here and apply your know-how. I only hope you can stomach the appalling anti-intellectual ignorance of the vast number of christian fundamentalists and republicans that will stare at you blankly when you try to explain to them what Mathematical Biology is and why it is more important than Britney Spears or the mythical Biblical Apocalypse that is 'just around the corner'.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -5/+12Your mom is a big biomass plant.
- wvdavis, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8RepublicansRule: Joined digg today and going down in flames quickly!
This just in RepublicansRule publishes a new book; "How to win friends and influence people in a politically liberal environment." - stephhicks68, on 11/20/2008, -3/+95 million Green collar jobs - a cornerstone of Obama's campaign
- roddack, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7Nuclear power > biomass power
- justaboutdead, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7biomass is only as good as the benefits it provides.... ie. if it is no better than the current petroleum program, then it means nothing...
current ethanol production actually produces less energy output than it takes input..... whatever choice we take, it needs to produce more output than in......... duh - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6=_=
Paragraphs. - Albumen, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4I like the name. RepublicansRule? Rule what? The Kleenex aisle at the Rite-Aid where they spend their days boo hooing over losing everything in this last election?
- Eronysis, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4I cant wait to taste soylent red.
- Leviathan433, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4Rock > Scissors
- silentjudas, on 11/21/2008, -1/+5-sigh-
Obama, I love you and all, but clean coal and biomass isn't going to do it. We need wave power plants and geothermal! The move to electric...everything is coming. Keep up with it! Stop supporting things such as this! - j0ew00ds, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Hemp?
- roddack, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3well she does do that thing with her tongue
- LanceUppercut, on 11/21/2008, -5/+7thanks Nanny state.
- SpinningHead, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4So, when the gov puts tens of billions of our dollars into the oil industry, its capitalism and when it invests in the technology of the future to make the mid-east irrelevant, its a nanny state? Its that kind of void of logic that made me stop being a republican.
- creaturecool, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2"YOU DON'T GET SOMETHING FROM NOTHING PEOPLE"
You're right. We get something from sunlight, wind, wave, or bio fuel, but I'm glad to hear reiterate the law of Conservation of Energy, it's a classic.
Also remember that Obama plans to tap the strategic oil reserve, which should carry us (at least for a little while), until we make significant progress in the renewable energy field. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Nobody has any money to build any sort of power plants right now. At the same time, demand for power is down in general. You won't see anything happening until the economy is fixed.
- fluxion, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1made with real recycled republican, so you know its good
- mcsenget, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1why not just leave the energy to the experts so that we don't waste a ***** of money on something that doesn't even pay out with energy in the end?
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Obama inhales.... that's the point!
- FLMarijuana, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2Hemp could fuel the world many times over. Can't even smoke it and it's still illegal. GoGo USA!
- Leviathan433, on 11/21/2008, -2/+3You're welcome
- SpinningHead, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2As I recall, it was the conservatives who dropped cafe standards which lead to the SUV boom and produced cars that were not able to be exported to many foreign markets. They shouldn't get a dime unless there is massive restructuring.
- mcsenget, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1anything could fuel the world many times over in the proper quantity
- Leviathan433, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Yes please
- mcsenget, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1No. they shouldn't be "investing" in anything. no subsidies, no tax breaks, no tax credits.
The government taxes us for the services that we expect from it and that's all that they should take our money for. Don't screw with the market. - mcsenget, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1down but not out
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -2/+2Buried for Savior crap.
Stop using my taxmoney to fund this green crap. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -2/+2I'd rather be a green collar worker than a blue or white tbh.
- cdwarrior14, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1YES!!!!! Let's give these "green" projects a leg to stand on with taxpayer moneys!!!!!!!
Seriously, why would you build a plant like this for $50million to create 20 MW when you could build a Nuclear plant that would create 1600 MW for $4billion? If you people are too stupid to do a proportion calculation, that means that it would cost approximately $4BILLION to create one of these biomass plants that produce 1600MW. Which is the same. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -3/+2No.
- downthefed, on 11/21/2008, -4/+2jokeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -5/+1What a boongoggle! The liberal congress would rather let the car makers die than divert the $25G already allocated them to chase their mad green future. The Treehuggers now wield more clout in the democrat party than the unions. Green jobs will not pull the US out of the Obama Malaise. Tax and spending cuts will.
- partrow, on 11/21/2008, -8/+3"Green" in the title = buried.
- apackofmonkeys, on 11/21/2008, -6/+0Don't speak too soon. As of right now, you've been buried more than he has.
