- drewhenson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30How often do you think people just walk into these buildings?
- deepdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Bugs bunny can.
- cankillar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I'd probably try to drive down the 2nd one...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18His home page http://www.ericgrohemurals.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Not sure why you took that direction in the conversation.. but mine is already amazing on her own .. not ordinary in any sense.... but thanks for allowing me to bring it up without bragging... I think I just heard your lunch bell ring ... back to class or you
- Nobles350, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17This guy is a blessing to humanity. We need to clone him and make an army of art clones to beautify all the abandoned original wal-marts across the US.
- digitalArtform, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I once saw a coyote paint a tunnel opening like that on the side of a cliff.
- shankrabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14You can only get the true 3D effect by standing in the middle of the wall. He paints with a center vanishing point so that if you were to view the painting at any other angle it would really mess with your eyes.
- diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This guy is bad news for birds. I'll bet they don't dig the 3D effect.

"if i were standing at the angle the pictures were taken, I would run into it"
Only if you couldn't judge distance. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Some of his better work is on his website: http://www.ericgrohemurals.com/projects.html . I think this guys is also on http://www.votobooth.com

- E55P3A, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Not very often, as they look to be perspective based (eg look from a different angle and it looks really fake)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Gifted!
I'm in awe of how some people can turn something so plain and ordinary into something so truely amazing! - Ralph124c41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The technique is called "trompe l'oiel" (French for "fool the eye"). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trompe_L%27oiel
- obrysii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah--I don't think this guy has any problem getting employment.
I wonder how much he charges. - xerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And I bet that damn Road Runner just runs right into them.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For san francisco bay area residents, we've got a local guy that does similar murals, named Greg Brown
This page doesn't have any of his big ones:

This page has some better ones:
http://www.artofgregbrown.com/murals.html
This one's pretty good :)
http://www.artofgregbrown.com/mu45.html - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've seen them before, but this guys sense of perspective is astonishing. I love the basement hallway!
- Nobles350, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Beauty is indeed subjective, and he's not picasso. But common, this guy must have certainly affected the mood of a lot of people by turning drab structures into interesting pieces. Saying that he is a blessing to humanity is not an exclusive statement, and is certainly not a slap in the face to me (fellow human). But perhaps we haven't contributed as much to humanity as you. My apologies for offending.
- PEteandPEte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2he should paint a road on one of those walls, watch the crashes pile up!
- sorrillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You should wait a little longer. Your network administrator has not accessed digg today, he will. Then this website will be unlocked.
Trust me. - raydar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is a bridge in Frederick, Maryland that has some beautiful examples of trompe l'oeil by William Cochran(his home town) he has created an non-profit organization for creating participatory public art called sharedvision.org. For examples of the Frederick mural look here. http://www.bridge.skyline.net/illusions/
- upsilonh24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love the fact that the "article" ends by:
SIMPLY AMAZING, ISN'T IT ? - olenka2112, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very impressive. The first time I've heard of similar art was when I saw this guy's work:
http://www.rense.com/general67/street.htm
It's also the 3D effect, but paintings are done on the ground. - smileycat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a friend who also does this sort of work in Seattle. You can see an example of the detail here: http://www.themuralworks.com/portals/pages/MW_Fig8.htm
- imyayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome artwork.
- Managore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The hollow faced dragon uses very different principles to achieve it's effect...
- marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm impressed by the scale of his work, and the quality. There are a few local malls that do this, but it's usually these lame Paris street scenes, and of lesser quality.
- hass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My company's filter blocks this website. That's weird.
- Jarodd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It would be "trompe l'oeil"
- pryingender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I drive past the mural on the side of Mount Carmel Hospital everyday, it looks amazing from the freeway
- JonDiggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4i bet people are going to be driving and walking into all of his walls
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder how much this guy charges per hour/piece? Must be a lot.
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At first I thought it was Eric Henn. He painted the mural for the 100th Pumpkin Show in my hometown of Circleville, OH. The work looks very similar.
http://pumpkinshow.com/100.htm - leemac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My English professor would have a field day with this, he hates boring buildings. This guy gives buildings personality on the inside and outside! I love the brewery interior...amazing.
- macguy815, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His work is more realistic than renaissance works... this guy is going to be remembered as one of the masters of art for our time
- MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I filmed a commercial at the miller plant, and saw that mural. It really does have astounding detail and perfect perspective. Kudos to this modern-day Michaelangelo.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone paints things like this in Palo Alto, California, and surrounding towns. I didn't realize that this one window in line with several others wasn't real until my ex pointed it out. It's freaking amazing.
- ElusiveByte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"(I wonder how many birds fly into this wall on a daily basis??)"
Oof! - nothing7899, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Knoxville, Tennessee there is a building that looks like it was painted by the same guy. The artwork on it is amazingly realistic. The building is positioned between 2 other buildings, and the buildings on the side stick out toward the viewer about 10 to 20 farther than the middle building. This helps to limit the viewing angle, making the artwork look close to real life.
I'm surprised that this artist doesn't utilize that technique... but i guess when you are commissioned for that type of project, you don't have a lot of choice with the canvas you use. - gmweezel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those are cool but they would just make me mad because they arent 3D. Maybe it's just me.
- lcmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have seen something similiar for a guy who does this on side walks but I can't find it again. Any one else seen it? Need to add it to my fav's...
- MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That guy did one of those for our VAIO exhibition - he drew the computers so walking up to the store they looked like they were sitting on the sidewalk, but it was just a chalk drawing(maybe cray-pas or something, some stick medium) - really freakin' cool.
- JoeCool1986, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It all has to do with depth perception - which cameras have none. You have two eyes, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem unless you're really, really not paying attention. It's just like that hollow face dragon.
- Vironex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've seen these kind of paintings before, try walking by one - it can be disorienting. The vanishing point becomes skewed, giving the illusion that everything is moving with you.
- gamemasterjd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This dude did this in Columbus. The 1st Project. 4 pictures down was the finished project. Almost got into and accident one day driving to work. I watch in awe as I pass it every now and then
