- diggum85, on 11/14/2008, -2/+31Say NO to farm-raised waves...
- theadvinci, on 11/14/2008, -0/+21One of the best ways to harness renewable energy I've seen yet.
- PGPirate, on 11/14/2008, -0/+17Only organic waves for me
- cjrando, on 11/14/2008, -1/+17It's "Corps" not "Corp."
- milarepa, on 11/14/2008, -0/+11WTF? This isn't even close to generating the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need! And, how am I supposed to reach 88 miles per hour under water?
- serif69, on 11/14/2008, -2/+10Someone set up us the bomb.
- lebondarken, on 11/14/2008, -2/+9Go Navy!
- BossKey, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6The Navy is just trying to figure out how to develop a Wave Motion Gun and then mount it on an old battleship.
- davidg11, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6The problem is this company is working as slow as molasses to get this done.
They have only 40kW test units now and their goal for 2009 or 2010 is a 150kW test unit.
They were supposed to have a 500kW buoy in 2009. Way behind schedule. Interesting technology though. - korvan504521, on 11/14/2008, -7/+13This will confuse the "military is a bunch of planet hating baby killers" crowd.
Maybe we should tell them wave farms give whales headaches so they don't feel conflicted. - davidtowers, on 11/14/2008, -2/+6Just don't go swimming near them!
- alphabetagaga, on 11/14/2008, -0/+4I interned for a congressman (congressperson, I should say) a while back, and I remember seeing appropriations for this project. That was two years ago. Granted, these types of projects take time, but I had one of the guys explain to me the whole process and it's definitely an interesting idea.
- AndrewMoyer, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3You mean you don't have a supercavitating amphibious Delorean...?
Poser! ;-) - Leviathan433, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Go banana!
- LanceUppercut, on 11/14/2008, -1/+4I'm surprised that the local government allowed this to be built. They ***** all over their super-ferry (which is kind of good, keeps the homeless on one island instead of a more democratic spread of the homeless) but they allow this to be installed in he bay? Perhaps Oahu has accepted being commercialized and have things like this in the water. Kaua'i, on the other hand wouldn't let anything like this near them. Now off of Nii'hau (private island 30 square miles-ish) would be a great place to put it since they need the money to keep the island private. Then again they wouldn't let the gov't lease land for a missle radar thing because they weren't sure if that would mean the island was no longer private.
- lovemorgul, on 11/14/2008, -6/+8I hoping that it is install to these units at bases around the world.
- Outsid3r, on 11/14/2008, -4/+6All your base are belong to us.
- Scrappy1850, on 11/14/2008, -1/+3if they figure out how to do that i can finally retire my old supersoaker!
- mecharabbit, on 11/14/2008, -2/+3You have no chance to survive make your time.
- copypastry, on 11/15/2008, -0/+1NOW CRANK DAT POWER BUOYYYYYYY
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2Glad I bought a ***** of OPTT
- jftitan, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2that flies through space!
- PGPirate, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2All your bases are belong to us
- xavyre, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1This research is the basis for the Navy's new Directional Tsunami Weapon it's developing. Really. I read that in the internets.
- Scrappy1850, on 11/14/2008, -2/+3shut up, hippie
- Leviathan433, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Why not?
- Atertract, on 11/14/2008, -2/+2I read PowerBuoy as PowerBoy. Been playing too much Fallout 3.
- Scheitbag, on 11/14/2008, -1/+1somehow read "wave farm" as warfare
- lebondarken, on 11/17/2008, -1/+1Same thing.
- Pelon808, on 11/14/2008, -0/+0For great justice.
- gkiltz, on 11/15/2008, -0/+0Remember, the concept of ocean current-powered electricity generation has been a proven concept for 60 years, and is used as a major source of power generation on some of the world's remote islands, and isolated coastal areas.
It has two problems:
1)Politicians-They get anywhere near it, and it turns int a money-loser in a New York nanosecond!!
2)Scalability-Get past the tens of thousands of users and it becomes ungainly. There IS an environmental impact whan the scale gets into 5 digits! - Scrappy1850, on 11/14/2008, -3/+2waves make shrimp sad
- mecharabbit, on 11/14/2008, -2/+1You're still going to need a Mr. Fusion, I guess. It's still clean energy.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -4/+2I heard the goal is to create massive tsunamis and use them as weapons of mass destruction. This could destroy the Somali pirate ships.
- mecharabbit, on 11/14/2008, -5/+1Yeah, the "s" is silent. Better recognize.
- analogkid01, on 11/14/2008, -8/+3You're not making your point in the most effective way possible.
- thepeacemaker, on 11/14/2008, -14/+4Here's a better way for the navy to save on fuel transportation costs - bring the "bases around the world" back to where they belong - inside our borders.
- deathsythe, on 11/14/2008, -13/+1I've been talking about this sort of thing since the late 80s. It is about damn time that we started really implementing it.
Kinda makes me a little upset that I never patented it or anything. :(
