- heavydigga, on 11/06/2009, -2/+22This is a much better use for these planes
- Lax32, on 11/07/2009, -0/+11Not that I don't like what NASA is doing, but I'd say that using UAVs to both aid soldiers in the battlefield or remove them from battle entirely (and as a correlary reduce the casualties of American soldiers) is a pretty good use for the technology...
- MaxxusFlamus, on 11/07/2009, -0/+7because putting a man on the moon was a meaningless gesture????
- THMike, on 11/06/2009, -1/+7Agreed
- THMike, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6They've used U2 spy planes too, but this seems like a better solution (less expensive, less dangerous, and probably can do even better science).
- tyghent, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5Brilliant.
- FearlessFreep, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3While they are used for wartime scenarios, it's really hard to think of them as "WarPlanes"
- drbuzz0, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2I'm not sure I'd consider this a "Much better use" - not to say I don't think NASA is using them for a good purpose, but the Globalhawk is a reconcense plane. When used as a "Warplane" it's primary purpose is to provide up to date battlefield and stratigic data. This saves soldiers lives and also the lives of civilians by providing immediate data on where the enemy is and thus allowing for precision strikes that avoid blowing up the wrong target.
Without good intelligence from these aircraft, it's back to the days of "carpet bombing" and hoping you strike a target. - freezo1994, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3you've earned my respect nasa
- biofriendlyblog, on 11/06/2009, -1/+3I look forward to seeing some of the information they are able to gather.

- jer2eydevil88, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1It's only a matter of time before Skyn... I mean Google starts using them as well.
- Hurricane, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Am I mistaken or weren't these planes developed for scientific purposes BEFORE they were turned into weapons?
- lurrch1, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1What a waste. They could be dropping bombs on fools from the comfort of a Arizona military base.
- eocarroll, on 11/08/2009, -1/+1In other news, the Pentagon has figured out how to turn an ozone monitor into a missile silo.

"much better use" you say?
you don't have any idea what UAVs (especially Global Hawk) were being used for.
There are not fighter/bomber planes. - SummerofGeorge, on 11/07/2009, -10/+2our uav is... nvm
