- wannaBdug, on 11/05/2009, -0/+46According to Wikipedia: The pool was named by Mrs. E. N. McGowan, wife of Assistant Park Superintendent, Charles McGowan in 1883. She called it Convolutus, the latin name for the morning glory flower of which the springs resemble. By 1889, the name Morning Glory Pool had become common usage in the park. Many early guidebooks called this feature Morning Glory Spring. The color comes from bacteria. Still cool even knowing that.
- themagicfetus, on 11/06/2009, -0/+33That's a good picture but you have to see it in person to do it any justice. It is in Yellowstone National Park
- piemcgee, on 11/06/2009, -0/+30kinda like the one I camped near this summer http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1141/1352905569_fe5 ...
- eastwood24, on 11/05/2009, -5/+34Sure would be fun to pee in that pool.
- tonyyarusso, on 11/06/2009, -1/+25The bacteria wouldn't be the problem for swimming - the part where it's hot enough to melt your skin off would.
- vizerei, on 11/06/2009, -1/+22Yes, it's in Yellowstone. moriarty23 is just being an *****...
- Xaevier, on 11/06/2009, -5/+24That is one hell of a glory hole.
- Curiomime, on 11/06/2009, -0/+19I thought it'd be named after some psychedelic effect from morning glory seeds.
- cyberthief, on 11/06/2009, -1/+18is it yellowstone park?
- 1hrSleep, on 11/06/2009, -0/+14Holy crap, dude. That's awesome. Where is that? Great photo too.

- IllBeBack, on 11/06/2009, -3/+14This is the Secret Portal to the Center of the Earth (or SPCOTE). Humans were not supposed to find this portal until December 24 2012 when the world ends.
Damn.
- The Supreme Secret Portal Commander - sanitarium09, on 11/06/2009, -0/+10Been there. Yellowstone is probably the coolest place in the USA.
- piemcgee, on 11/06/2009, -0/+9haha picture taker guy. It's called little crater lake and it's in the Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon - just over an hour outside of Portland. Pretty cold though, a constant 34 degrees.
- funkpandemic, on 11/06/2009, -0/+9The breathtaking colors are attributed to the various species of thermophilic bacteria living in the spring. The blue water in the center is very hot, but it may support chemotrophic life – a chemotroph is an organism that uses chemicals for a source of energy. As you move farther from the heat source of the spring, life begins to flourish. The cyanobacteria – aquatic photosynthesizing bacteria - that live at the edges of Grand Prismatic Spring cover the color spectrum including yellow, green, orange, red, and brown.

oh wait, i mean.. HURR HURR HURR COLORS DURR HURR - katatoniq, on 11/06/2009, -2/+10I can't decide what's cooler, the red colour around it, or the way it funnels down like that!
- lazlotlomax, on 11/06/2009, -2/+10Ive seen this pool in real life and it is even more spectacular. My cabin is only 50 miles from here and I see it most every summer.
- wellsdb, on 11/06/2009, -1/+8@cyberthief Yes. This is at Yellowstone Park, just a short walk from Old Faithful. It is even more beautiful in person. And very stinky, if I remember correctly. For those of you would "tap that," be prepared to have some third degree burns on your penis.
- filltev, on 11/05/2009, -4/+10Thanks for that info I just thought it looks well cool guess you could not take a dip in it then
- jfulls, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6yeah that's ridiculous lol
and it looks slightly less intimidating for swimming - HallsOfMandos, on 11/06/2009, -2/+8Be fair, it is fun to pee in ANY pool.
- nealt900, on 11/06/2009, -0/+6I have an unusually strong urge to find out whats down there...

Its really amazing to see. - inactive, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6Answer the ***** question picture taker guy. I wanna go swimming and see the bottom without being in a pool
- KingGorilla, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4If it's anything like a Morning Glory hole it should be awesome
- tkmoney, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4yep yellowstone. I remember seeing this when i was there. Lots of pools like this there.

It's nice to see people just ignoring the duplicate story system and posting anyway. - elliotys, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4First what?
- Cowzeetgrass, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5As long as everyone didn't do it, you probably could without hurting anything. The PH of urine is pretty close to neutral, same as the pool.
- brockorr, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5I'm disappointed in these comments
- AdamKernes, on 11/06/2009, -0/+4That is what she said.
- vednode, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Server's getting a little slow for me. Mirror for you guys.
http://imgur.com/4HTuv.jpg - hormel, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3It really is a sight to see in person, its truly amazing. Everyone should make a point to go to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons and take in all the beauty there. Just be warned that the pool STINKS. Like sulfur.
- nugz85, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3no oasis comment yet????????????
- Nashional, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Most amazing place I've ever been. The only reason I'm posting (first time) is that at the same time I saw this story, my digital photo frame was displaying the photo I took at this location in 2005!
- ChileanGoD, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2I'm teared between the willing to go swim in that crystal clear water and the fear of suddenly get sucked in.
- Asheis, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2scalding volcanic death awaits you! :D
- Asheis, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2You haven't been to yellowstone.. the colors of the water there are unnaturally beautiful. I think it's probably one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
- filltev, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2It did not show up on the dupe detector
- Animan351, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2I've been to the geyser park in Yellowstone. It's awesome and I recommend for anyone to go if you can.
- Lobrauski, on 11/06/2009, -1/+3That was a very cool link.

- Corr0sive, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Less fun and more convenient. But its funny when someone says "Hmm just got kinda warm"
