- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -2/+16Oh I love how illogical that argument is and how easy (and fun!) it is to destroy it. In fact, I will do so in one sentence:
Sure using electricity from power plants creates pollution because many power plants are coal based and therefoer create pollution; however, the difference is that electrical power plants use coal and gasoline much, MUCH more efficiently than any car ever thought about and are optimized to the max for such a thing. So you see, your argument is really just moot. Not to mention a growing number of power plants are based off alternative energy sources: wind, hydro-powered, sun, nuclear, etc. - lisapham, on 10/30/2007, -2/+15Notice how they cropped the picture. On the other end of that bumper there's a bumper sticker that says "My other car is a Hummer".
- erad222, on 10/30/2007, -2/+11I love Minnesota. We're the state people sometimes think about (like California or New York) but at the same time not all the time(like Wyoming or Vermont). So cozy and in the middle.
- outofstep, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Probably none. RT is really rich, and may have just bought one for himself.
- yurishoujo, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6Minnesota, hail to thee!
Hail to thee, our state so dear,
Thy light shall ever be
A beacon bright and clear.
Just one more time of showing the nation of how ***** is done. - cnot3, on 10/30/2007, -3/+7If he used a chariot drawn by a dozen black horses he would use even less gas, and only look like slightly more of an *****.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4At least I capitalized my words and used punctuation...
- ShosuroYuu, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5I suppose you haven't been in Minnesota in the winter.
- pjb1816, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!
- pjb1816, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5because saving gas, and the environment at the same time... isn't useful
/sarcasm - prisoner24601, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4This is such a classic example of people who haven't done any research on a subject at all still dismissing it. You are so totally wrong in your assumptions it's not even funny. First of all, reducing pollution from one location burning a large amount of fossil fuels (at a power plant) is far easier than reducing the pollution of burning the same large amount of fossil fuels at a huge number of locations (individual cars.) Second, your assumption that only polluting sources will be used is completely wrong.
I can't imagine what makes people show up every chance they get to throw these same tired, uninformed and completely inaccurate criticisms at plug-in hybrids aside from the possibility that they work for an oil company. It's just stunning. - Demonmonger, on 10/30/2007, -2/+5He'll drive a gas guzzler SUV during the winter. No way that thing gets through Minnesota blizzards.
- carpespasm, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4get his ass a scooter. those things burn even less gas.
- instinet, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3So how many KwH does it take to charge it overnight? In otherwords, how much does it
cost to recharge it? - yingjai, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2mirrors or it didn't happen
- apeweek, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Driving on pure electric power only makes about 3% of the pollution that gas-powered vehicles do, even considering coal-burning plants. Increased efficiencies all along the fuel chain is the reason.
Did you know you drive an electric car already? Lots of electricity is used to refine gasoline. - hoppdawg, on 10/30/2007, -6/+8And how many tax dollars went to pay for the custom Prius?
- Bridea, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1Snow plows don't help batteries in -30 degree temps.
- mahoneyxp, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2There are rarely blizzards in Minnesota. On those days he will just shut down the government and sleep in and watch the Price is Right. It is cold, but there are Prius' here everywhere and they seem to operate just fine in the winter. Put some snow tires on and you are good to go.
- dasbebe, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1yeah, he is all over that stuff. Was pushing light rail for the rebuilt 35W bridge. Wish he would work on getting us those extra cops he promised us as well.
(Sorry, off topic complaint) - awwyeahboyeeee, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2Pretty impressive for a metropolitan area where gay looking Lexus SUVs outnumber Priuses and other hybrids about 1000 to 1. I'll be more impressed when he moves to the North Side and rides the #5 bus to work every day. We'd see how long it takes before he gets a cap in his ass now that a quarter of the people in the projects of Chicago and Detroit are probably planning on moving here in the next 5 years. Oh, do I sound like I hate the twin cities? Um, yeah, duh.
- creolelicious, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1What would really be cool would be if he could team up with Saint Paul's mayor and get Ford to turn the Highland Park plant into a plug-in factory, already. Oh, wait. That would require an iota of creative thinking and imagination from an American car company. Nevermind.
- canrocks, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1.
- apeweek, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1Most electric vehicles drive around for about a penny per mile.
- apeweek, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1From a much cleaner source than gasoline.
- brucerchapman, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0Hey, one of our government ministers just got demoted from the traffic safety committee because he built up too many speeding fines from his Government issued V8 car. They should just give him his job back and switch it for a plug in hybrid instead.
- zachshmack, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1Because there's no way he's doing it to win public favor.
- sallos, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1Thats why they have snow plows and salt.
- NordicSkiing, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1will he get caught doing 100+ too?
- wufoo, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0Everyone is asking... where'd the electricity come from. A power plant is the most likely answer. But, enough smart ass from me. It is more friendly for the environment, don't take my word for it though. Check out the film "Who Killed the Electric Car?" Pretty interesting look at why we haven't been able to make the change to electric or at least hybrid plug in cars.
- solid12345, on 10/31/2007, -0/+0Great, now let's give this guy a medal and a blowjob. Big deal, it changes nothing in the scheme of things.
- gavinhudson, on 10/31/2007, -0/+0One of the great things about using electrical energy to power cars is that the country is also currently rapidly developing its clean energy industry. Readers suggesting that electric cars will rely solely on coal are mistaken and offering incomplete information. In Washington state, for example, drivers of electric vehicles get just under half their power from hydroelectric.
Visit http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/states/sep_sum/plain_h ... to see where each state got its electrical energy as of 2004. Visit http://www.eere.energy.gov/states/maps/renewable_p ... to see the renewable energy goals of states.
Want more personal options for powering your electric car? If you have solar panels on your house (which are getting cheaper and more efficient all the time), you'll be driving on sun power. Also, wherever you live, you can buy clean energy either from your existing utility company or a nationwide clean energy provider. Visit http://www.eere.energy.gov/greenpower/buying/buyin ... to follow this option.
:) - declawedpaw, on 10/30/2007, -2/+1If we increase taxes enough to buy everyone a customized Prius, then our energy problems will be solved!
- halik, on 10/30/2007, -2/+1because electricity that you plug it into comes out of nowhere...
- wufoo, on 10/30/2007, -1/+0Probably, Prius' are super light and have a difficult time traveling in anything but dry conditions.
- tehawesome531, on 10/30/2007, -3/+1Maybe I read it wrong, but since when do people always think about Wyoming or Vermont?
But anyways, I love Minnesota too :D - hayes321, on 10/30/2007, -4/+2I'll believe it when I hear my mayor buzzing around town.
- koneecheewa, on 10/30/2007, -4/+0So, where does the electricity come from to provide this extra mpg??
- spyd3rweb, on 10/30/2007, -8/+4Thank you rybak for spending tax dollars on ***** instead of doing something useful.
- shahofkings, on 10/30/2007, -7/+1that is a very good example of a run-on sentence
- mlock2k, on 10/30/2007, -8/+1i live here this guy is an ass clown. He does hang out at the airport. ....
- bratpack8, on 10/30/2007, -19/+6Yes, because when you plug it in, it's all good because creating electricity (mostly from coal) has no pollution.
