- DigSomeMore, on 08/22/2008, -1/+12Hmm, i don't understand why the whole country isn't already doing this...
- SVOboy, on 08/22/2008, -0/+9Sounds like a win-win. Hopefully for those markets not interested in more advertisements, public spaces like this can be used to feed power back into the grid.
- CoolHandLuke, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8Twenty years and millions of research dollars and THIS is what they come up with?? It's just more fodder for the Hurricanes.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -2/+10great idea - wonder why it took so long for florida to figure that one out?
- CleoQKazoo, on 08/22/2008, -0/+7I live in miami too and since gas prices and everything, the buses and trains and become much more crowded so they probably wont be losing as much money as they would have years ago. Public transportation is something like a last resort here for some people.
- galv0, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7What the *****..? Why would you waste all of this money to give power to advertisements?
Florida ftw - Smurph0404, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7So they're spending thousands, if not millions, of dollars on these solar panels to light up ads? I mean yeah they are using less energy from the grid but you could also do that by just turning the lights off, and save money as well.
- andyb747, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6Miami...a sunny place for shady poeple !
- Fallout911, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5It should read as:
Miami gets 600 vandalized solar powered hobo shelters.
(I live in Miami) - inactive, on 08/22/2008, -3/+7It a wonder it took florida so long to jump on that one.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+3Probably because print ads don't consume any energy and are about 1/20th the cost.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4And the problem with non-energy consuming print ads is???
- ronsta, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4why did it take Miami so long to jump on this one?
i've lived in Miami 20 years. very few opportunities for recycling here. i think it's a cultural thing, because littering is quite common here, too. - watergenerator, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4an eco-innovation we'll likely see blossoming up in a neighborhood near us... Even if we must make it so...
- SSUK, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2RTFA, it says the ads AND the shelter itself.
- thegrantman, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2This is a brilliant idea but theft may offset any gains.
- Jektal, on 08/22/2008, -0/+2I think they're going to use the solar panels for lighting the shelter at night.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -1/+3I think confusion is the least of your worries
- troye, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Public transportation is a last resort for us Americans with egos and our high standards of living.
- blackisamu, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1This isn't new. I live in Miami and we've had these for years now. The damn bus stop signs are the only things that are lit up after hurricanes hit since the power is out all over.
- grey580, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Good idea. But a bad implementation. Most bus shelters here in Miami get run into by some asshat thinking he's Speed Racer.
Why the panels aren't powering the grid to generate revenue is beyond me.
That's going to be bum central. There's alot of homeless in that area. And kids will probably tag the ***** out of that thing.
Crook & Crome tag everything. - andyb747, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1people :)
- Jektal, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1$
- gregnorc, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1How about solar powered fans instead? Miami is hot as hell.
- beauley, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1With Global Warming on many people's minds, do we have any ideas of the best way to lessen the impact on our future, or maybe a possible relief of its possible ravages or even a possible key to its eventual reversal. Many scientific experts have proposed

Solar Power: Source of Endless Energy - Waterrat, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1Or so they hope...But in theend they have no way of knowing if these ads really make people buy heir products or not.
- Waterrat, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1 Except for the people waiting for buses forced to endure hearing and seeing the damn ads every day..
- n3w5, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1I'm off to Miami (with ratchet in back pocket) for some free solar panels ;)
- ngageguy, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Not that I would do it, but that is the first thing I thought of. Amazing sometimes how fast things happen with ad dollars behind them.
- Wander, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1I live just a few miles from Miami. They steal the bus benches here. They steal storm drain covers for scrap. Those solar panels will be appearing on craigslist very soon.
- drape, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1I happily THOUGHT miami decided reduce their reliance on fossil fuels. Then i realised its used to power more advertising boards at bus stops.
Unfortunately true is that monetary profits are necessary. - drgruney, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1What?!
- nickert0n, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1Solar panels are solar
- ricksite, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1"EcoGeek.org publishes up to ten stories daily about innovations that are saving the planet."
LOL If people think solar signs are going to save the planet, then we are screwed. Getting rid of/not producing the signs altogether would be a step in the right direction. - Rotzooi, on 08/22/2008, -3/+4This is eco-friendly business even Republicans can appreciate.
- Frylocke, on 08/22/2008, -0/+1How about we do this ***** for homes!!! Oh wait.....that would make too many people happy. Stupid energy companies :(
- whoreable, on 08/22/2008, -1/+1Yes people here are littering morons. It is only a matter of time before the panels get stolen. Oh and the transit system sucks so who cares about the damn bus stops? I was on the metro a few times recently, and with all the rain, the water floods the cars with like 1" of water. It sloshes around when the train starts and stops.
- anybody99, on 12/28/2008, -0/+0Bus stations with solar energy? Nice way to save power in Miami!
Miami limousine services
http://www.transmiami.com/ - BotchaMcCoola, on 08/22/2008, -2/+1Germany and Japan lost a lot of military battles back then but seem to be pulling ahead of us now on a per capita basis. Why all the denial? Why not more outrage against our dimwit politicians? The USA can be tops again with the right leaders.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 08/22/2008, -2/+1I'm glad your comedy talent is no better than mine.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 08/22/2008, -6/+1Were they bought from Germany, most likely. Who won WWII again please, I'm confused.
