- TheMachine1, on 12/08/2008, -1/+40"In fact, 26,000 acres of Tahoma State Forest were ruined because of meth pollution."
You would need a low yield nuclear weapon to ruin that much land. Looking it up it was more like some scattered dumping on 100 acres.
"Closing an entire forest for a meth lab cleanup was a first in Washington, and no national forest has ever been shut down because of meth, said Kim Thorsen, deputy director for law enforcement and investigation at the Forest Service. State investigators said it was necessary because the remnants were spread over about 100 acres and they needed to make sure they had found and cleared everything. "

- deadapostle, on 12/08/2008, -1/+25This article seems to be geared toward the ecological conscience of meth heads. In that way, it is a major failure.
- theskillwithin, on 12/08/2008, -0/+24no you did that, on meth.
- mikbunn, on 12/08/2008, -6/+29Actually the "meth" is the part they don't give them.

Prohibition of other drugs is what is fueling this meth problem. Prohibition never works as well as control and regulation, because when you make something illegal, you loose all control over it. When asked, "What's your favorite Drug" - they respond "Meth". If you rephrase the question, "If money was not a factor, what would be your favorite drug?" - they respond, "oh, well cocaine of course".
Prohibition has driven up the price of cocaine to such extreme levels (5,000% mark-up rate) that from a price perspective crack and now meth are more economically feasible, more bang for your buck, and now the drug of choice. - noumuon, on 12/08/2008, -0/+20actually, no. desoxyn is prescription methamphetamine for adhd.

- sanguinekane, on 12/08/2008, -1/+16I used to get high on life. Then I entered the real world and quickly built up a tolerance.

- Dalhectar, on 12/08/2008, -2/+13I'm pretty sure most chemical waste would damage the environment. If Dow Chemical dumped their crap in the middle of a national forest, the same thing would happen. Too bad they can legally dump their stuff in our waterways, causing real damage the Bush administration would have us ignore. Highlighting the illegal dumping of illegal chemical processing overlooks the larger problem that Chemical processing industries do to our environment legally, and the erosion of relations that were supposed to limit that environmental damage. Talking about 2 guys in a trailer seems to be scapegoating when we have Fortune 500 companies doing the same thing... legally.
- thegamingguy, on 12/08/2008, -2/+12"I'm going to do meth...just this once"
- noumuon, on 12/08/2008, -2/+12yea, because i love that opium. i hear the morphine in it makes it less addictive.
- DougieD, on 12/08/2008, -0/+9Thank you for having common sense. I stopped and re-read that sentence in the article a few times before calling ***** in my head. There was no need to exaggerate that statistic in an otherwise great article. I was impressed the pollution actually killed trees; I didn't need to be lied to and told that the waste is almost as dangerous as a ***** nuclear bomb just to drive the fact home!
- Mujokan, on 12/08/2008, -1/+10Obligatory response: If you were allowed to grow your own, that would stop.
- PillCosby, on 12/08/2008, -1/+9no you didnt.
- eryximachus, on 12/08/2008, -1/+8Umm, no. Amphetamine has been Schedule II in the US since the Controlled Substances Act was passed in 1970. Possession of any Schedule II drug without a prescription is a criminal offense. Schedule II drugs include bad boys like cocaine and methamphetamine, but also many other amphetamines, morphine, and a few other narcotics.
A little known fact - amphetamine was basically over the counter until the Controlled Substances Act was passed.
You might be thinking of some new laws that have been passed recently that strictly controls ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, which is easily converted into methamphetamine. These days, you have to show a government ID to purchase ephedrine and pseudoephedrine cold and asthma medication. You're also limited to a certain quantity at a time. - chongli, on 12/08/2008, -0/+7So I take it you live in a vacuum?
- fishstyle, on 12/08/2008, -3/+9http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/amphetamines/amphe ...
# Damage to Teeth and Gums #: Jaw tension can lead to teeth grinding (bruxia/bruxism) and permanent wear and cracking. Long-term use of amphetamines can result in tooth rot (dental caries) and loss of teeth. [Shaner 2002] Regular amphetamine use can lead to gingivitis (inflammation of the gums). This may be the result of prolonged dry mouth which can cause the gums to become inflamed, worsening oral health. [Hasan 2004].
Frequency: common.
Certainty: link established.
No; it does. Amphetamines are known to do that. Primarily meth. - FredFredrickson, on 12/08/2008, -1/+7You're an uncle *****, yes it's true, nobody ***** uncles quite like you.
- mountainsurfer, on 12/08/2008, -1/+7If the day comes when we're creating enough meth to actually have a measurable impact on the environment on a global scale then the last thing we need to worry about is the impact on the environment. I for one would be holed up in my house with a shotgun shooting meth addicted robbers like I was in a zombie movie.
- Mujokan, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6It's not the acids in it.
"Methamphetamine use inhibits saliva production; loss of saliva exposes teeth to bacteria that cause cavities; many users treat their "dry mouth" (xerostomia) symptoms with sugared sodas, which only fuels the bacteria that cause cavities. Combine meth with poor oral hygiene, and soon you'll be ordering dentures."

- zbeast, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6There is no "Brake Fluid" in meth..
Brake Fluid is used to as a way to transfer heat from the hot plate to the reaction Vessel as it does not burn at high temperatures. - logpony, on 12/08/2008, -1/+7Well of course it's bad for you.
Unless a doctor prescribes it.
Then it's just magically delicious. - Garofoli, on 12/08/2008, -3/+8http://blogger.xs4all.nl/images/blogger_xs4all_nl/ ...
Not even once. - noumuon, on 12/08/2008, -0/+5wait, so meth is pcp now?
- MarineDigg80, on 12/08/2008, -4/+8good I am sure all the Tree hugging Meth heads will stop using to save their trees now, yeah right.
- mstrebe, on 12/09/2008, -0/+4"Hmm... Meth can make me psychotic, causes permanent brain damage, cause me to not care about my loved ones, and will destroy my health, taking decades off my life span. ***** it, I'm taking it anyway. Oh wait, you say it also has an environmental impact? Oh, well, then I better not."
What the hell is the point of this ridiculous article? - DougieD, on 12/08/2008, -3/+7If it grows in the ground, you're good! (sorta)
- sheldonator, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4don't do any drugs that get you so high that you will suck a dick to get more!
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4When I think of "meth" I think of something cooked up in a trailer park somewhere.
When I think of "speed" I think of pharmaceuticals.
Maybe that's just me though. - ChocChunkOaties, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4erm, i think he's being sarcastic.

- Shivan57, on 12/08/2008, -1/+5Do what you want to your body. Its not my body. Don't force it on others, but educate those who want to try it. I always was very informed before I tried anything. It make the experience better and made me smart on my decisions to experiment.
For those worried about meth production destroying the trees and the forest---what do you think we've been doing since the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.
***** stopping meth production, stop burning oil. Why attack such a small, almost non-existent environmental problem when a larger one has been around for so long? 1english pound of meth makes almost 3 english pounds of waste. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH METH THAT IS?! It'll last... It'll last. - nkleffman, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3It drives up the price of those drugs, making a lower cost substitute more attractive - even if it is 100x worse for you. I'm saying it does so indirectly.
- Quick2822, on 12/08/2008, -2/+5I bet a lot of people addicted to meth are going to reconsider now that they know it effects more than just their body.
- paulmer2003, on 12/08/2008, -1/+4Hardly. You're a moron.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methamphetamine#Histo ... - Scorps111, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3HOW...... how.... HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET INSIDE MY METH LAB :(
- JimUnderscore, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3I call shenanigans!
14 years on prescription meth, always in good health. Millions of adults and kids take it without problems. How dare anyone start an article with the words "We all know that methamphetamines are bad for health" in the face of all those it helps. The articles about meth labs, but the headline doesn't say that. It generalizes, it continues publicizing an unjust demonizing stereotype in the media. -
