- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11This is stupid.
FTA: "You will need to fill your bottle when it is empty, once a day or less depending on how much direct, hot sun your plants receive."
If you still have to fill it once per day, what's the point? This jackass's plants died because he only watered once per day? What problem did he fix here? - shaka999, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Pots have holes in the bottom. If you put all the water in at once it drains out the bottom and your dirt quickly dries out. This slowly releases the water so the dirt stays moist all day.
So, what other fields do you think your an expert in? - hiPpymIck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6you can make a DIY watering can the same way..
2L flexible plastic bottle
make holes (in a circle) thru the lid (be careful with the angle - the water jets will follow it)
fill with water (+ seaweed concentrate for super healthy plants)
squeeze gently to water
(it gurgles a bit and you might have to 'blow-up' the bottle occasionally - Leomarth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5So, to avoid watering her plants every day, she improvised a system that she'll have to ... fill every day?
- KilGil27, on 10/10/2007, -9/+14soda
- Farik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Pop is mainly referred to as soda only in the US. A more appeasing term for the entire world would be soft drink.
- Djerrid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Reminds me of when I had too much time in the summer:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfmprk77_43d3wdq9 - UnknownVariable, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Not every drink of this category is made by the company "Coca Cola."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I was looking for the "small" drill bit. mine just say things like 1/8 , 5/64 etc
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Cool, but pop bottles won't do it for me. I want a remote control automatic drip irrigation system complete with sensors and cams.
- Farik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3WTF is soda? (I'm not American)
- clothmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Typically, a carbonated beverage, like Dr. Pepper.
In other news, http://www.*****.com - zetec, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4to be more specific, mostly the northeastern US. It's soda down south.
- JFirestone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The other day I made this exact thing for one of my plants. Thanks!
- BarbaraKolbe, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Pop/soda/water/coke bottle, what's the difference? Kevin thinks it's good, so we all think it's good! ;-) DUGG!
- WilliamDavis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thank you for an answer that makes some sense, but I still think he has the same problem he had to start with. Most plants in a pot don't need constant water, and many won't even tolerate it well.
"So, what other fields do you think your an expert in?"
haha. None, really. - angrydroid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Another method is 'wick irrigation' by having some cotton string dipped into a reservoir/bottle and the string buried down in the dirt of the potted plant. Siphon-like capillary action will transfer the water to the soil via the string and keep the plant nice a moist. I did it when I went on vacation for two weeks and it worked like a charm.
- madrona, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2His original problem was that he forgot to water his plants one day, and they dried out. With this system in place, if he forgets to water his plants one day, they will dry out. So no, he didn't solve his original problem. "Your" missing the point.
- brjndr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can also get these water absorbing gel crystals you mix with the potting soil. They soak up water quickly and expand, but they release it slowly throughout the day. They're very good in hot areas. Garden centers always have them.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3some of them even call it "coke" when it is not actually coke. it gets hard when you only have 500 words and half of them are things like "uh" and "y'all"
- ronin691, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Google AdSense ads for this page are amazingly accurate, "on the money". Nice job.
- sishgupta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Still water is not a good idea in any region for this reason. Especially with west-nile woes.
- octopod42, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Everyone loves it when you're deliberately obtuse and pretend you can't infer that it DOESN'T MATTER PRECISELY!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For those of us in tropical regions do not do this - you'll contribute to heavy growth in mosquito population and the spread of dengue fever and malaria! At least cover up the top with plastic-wrap and poke super small holes in it so that mosquitos cannot pass.
- Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Dugg for not being titled "Amazing pop bottle hack!"
- springboks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2...and being cluttered with ads.
- giid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was thinking the exact same thing.... doesn't really buy you much, does it?
- rokinroj, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Billy likes soda. Mrs. Lippy's car is green.
- ursus88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0i guess i like the fact that someone is looking to find a use for plastic bottles... I know the ultimate would be to not use them at all! but right now that aint the case... In AZ, you need to water your plants 1+ times during the day sometimes, so this would actually work quite well for patio tomatoes, herbs, etc. I'm gonna try it out!
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Dugg for being "at the cusp of near death."
- RxDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Kevin needs to show us how to overclock this bottle before I'll try it.
- simpson2050, on 12/29/2008, -0/+0Reusing plastic bottle is really great. And for irrigation purpose is really interesting method. In ancient Egypt people use clay vessel for this purpose.
http://www.irrigationdirect.com - ursus88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0hahahahaah!! thanks :-) it was nice to read this comment after the debate over pop vs soda vs soft drink vs bla bla bla!
- Chicaloreto, on 08/17/2009, -0/+0I remember this, an oldie but a classic. Love it!

Go, pop! - HoldenMyOwn, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3coke bottle
- Nedlog23, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Wow, I need a break from work for sure.
I just read "Make Your Own POOP Bottle Drip Irrigation System". - zetec, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4pop is retarded. soda is where it's at.
or even soft drink. pop is for children. - t1m0j5, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1lame
- boomqweeshaa, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1pop, soda is the adjective that describes the noun, as in what kind of pop? Soda pop!
- SMPrime, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4dugg for calling it pop instead of dumb "soda"
- disabled4diggin, on 10/10/2007, -18/+8Inaccurate. That bottle is a water bottle and I don't see it doing any kind of popping. Looks like it could be used as a container for soda, though.
