- kmkg, on 04/05/2009, -0/+15SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING.
- lazyfool314, on 04/05/2009, -0/+14Shut down..EVERYTHING!
- hawk0168, on 04/05/2009, -1/+8Someone probably coughed 5000 miles away.
- lonedust, on 04/05/2009, -3/+10Environment?
So threatening innocent lives are OK in civil wars, as long as they don't hurt the environment.
/takes note - qerplonk, on 04/05/2009, -1/+6"Madagascar Citizens Threatened By Potential Civil War."
fixed - Nore, on 04/05/2009, -1/+4Does this mean there won't be a third installment of the movie?
- Paulorific, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3Who gives a ***** about lemurs?
- jturbo, on 04/05/2009, -1/+4Funny stuff. On paper, we care more about animals than humans. But maybe I'm just misinterpreting things, does the "first world" still consider anyone in the "third" & "second" animals? I've been feeling a little disoriented lately, who am I better than? who should I hate? who is bad? who is good? whats the exchange rate for third to first world lives? Will tens of thousands dead from preventable causes in the third world make the front page today, or will Michelle Obama's outfit be more important?
- jturbo, on 04/05/2009, -1/+4Another CIA coup going to plan! Total disregard for life, liberty, and sovereignty is our motto!
- CorneliusRex, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3The UN should really have done something about the coup, they had enough warning. Its the whole "hands off in Africa" thing. Colonies were great but now that we are gone, why not let em' fight amongst themselves. I couldn't live in captivity either!
- maz2331, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3You first.
- solboldi, on 04/05/2009, -1/+4It is from an evironmental news site.
There are about 7 billion humans...a big surplus.. and the lemurs are on the verge of extinction. They are very very scarce, humans are not. - shroominbal, on 04/05/2009, -1/+4Human being are like cancer - I wish we could be deleted from here so nature will be saved.
- generalalcazar, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3As humans, we are programmed to care for the defenseless. In situations like this, from afar, we tend to group the humans as capable of managing their own fate, while the animals are pure victims. This triggers a "pity" script in us that makes us want to care for the most victimized. The key words here are "from afar" - since being up close to messy reality would probably change a person's priorities.
Disney's anthropomorphism also makes a big contribution to this effect, as movies such as "Madagascar" or "Ice Age" view animals as a different class of human.
On the other hand - Madagascar is home to quite a large number of unique species, which are already under threat. If more of these species go extinct, the world's biodiversity goes down. It is generally accepted in the scientific community that a lower biodiversity on the planet is harmful to those species that remain. - solboldi, on 04/05/2009, -1/+4Poor animals.
- stonebear, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3Careful what you wish for.
- Ioncannon, on 04/05/2009, -3/+5It's a reference to the flash game Pandemic. You are a virus that has to infect as many people as possible. As the plague spreads countries close their ports, until all borders are closed. The problem with Madagascar is it only had a sea port, so as soon as you begin spreading, they close. So the joke is they shut the whole country down over someone coughing in a country as far as USA.
- mjoe, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2aw ***** now madagascar will have to repopulate the world
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2LEAVE THE LEMURS ALONE!
- Bamboolemur, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2Nice to see madagascar is getting some love from Digg. Notwithstanding the current troubles, Madagascar is a unique country that does not suffer quiet from the politically instability that others do.
Unfortunately, poverty and environmental problems are just as serious as other african countries.
On a political note, this was a coup: plain and simple. The young pretender must go. - hoodedrobin, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1Aye Aye.
The ***** you of the animal kingdom. - inactive, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1There is one single thing that could be done to alleviate most if not all of the problems in the world today.
Kill of 80% of the humans on the planet. - HurricaneDC, on 04/05/2009, -2/+3Someone explain the ***** joke
- Paulorific, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1That better be sarcasm.
- Xaevier, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1Yeah the first thing I thought when I read the title was
"Oh crap somebody must have sneezed" - RonaldSays, on 04/05/2009, -1/+2Animals and environment unfortunately are always the victims of this kind of political and economical unrest. Hopefully things will be not too bad.
- TyrannousDotNet, on 04/05/2009, -1/+2How will they film Madagascar 3?!?!
- acephreak, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1The sequel sucked anyway.
- mksmothers, on 04/05/2009, -2/+2I wish there was a way to grow back plants and reproduce animals. Calm down hippies.
- Shlufi, on 04/05/2009, -1/+1OMG the Chameleons. . .
- solboldi, on 04/05/2009, -1/+1There are nearly 7 billion humans on this planet, and only 500 or so of those lemurs. The lemurs are far more scarce.
- njiska, on 04/05/2009, -2/+2***** terrible. Yet another example of people who have their priorities all wrong.
- lepetitmousse, on 04/05/2009, -1/+1Madagascar has people!?!?
- blacmagic, on 04/06/2009, -0/+0what makes you think somebody gives a ***** about humans?
- sajorojas, on 04/05/2009, -1/+1He's obviously making fun of democrats. Good show sir!
- xchrisxsays, on 04/05/2009, -2/+1Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave...
- JRowe3388, on 04/05/2009, -2/+1I came here to make that same joke. Spot on.
- jnisme, on 04/05/2009, -3/+2You are a ***** idiot. Go remove yourself from the gene pool. Dumbass.
- vsujohn2, on 04/05/2009, -6/+4They like to move it move it.
- mine4321, on 04/05/2009, -3/+0I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
- bisrt, on 04/05/2009, -5/+1Hundreds of people are dying, I think the environment comes second to that.
