http://images.businessweek.com/ss/07/10/1018_green ... - FyreGoddess, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5The shame of it all is that both companies and people, for the most part, seem to be much more interested in *appearing* to care and conserve than actually doing it. Environmentalism in a lot of places has become a status symbol.
If people would just shut up and do what they think or know is better for the environment - reduce their consumption and research the correct ways to do that, then being concerned about the environment wouldn't wind up having the bad name that the companies and feel-good pseudo environmentalists are giving it. - Error601, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3There are people that STILL haven't figured out that 'green" is a marketing angle?
- bremstrong, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1It is somewhat encouraging that companies find value in "feel good gestures". It indicates that people appreciate companies that are doing good things for the environment.
Mixed in with the gestures is genuinely valuable progress. - hollywoodprince, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Wow that's a long article... it was good but it seems like it could have been a lot more useful if it had been cut down.
- webcure, on 10/22/2007, -2/+1It is going to be a long road to a real eco-friendly future.
Tip - Bring along at least one extra bottle of water and let's hit the road together.
It ain't gonna be easy. - Railer, on 10/23/2007, -4/+2"I have a new definition for environmentalists" - sorry correction, I didn't mean "new".
- Railer, on 10/23/2007, -4/+2"environmentalism boils down to misleading statistics and hype" - ya thats the definition of Environmentalism. Science or Business.
Hell! Al Gore tells everyone Ocean levels are going up 20 feet when even the IPCC says it will be less the 20 inches, and flies his private jet around the world giving conferences at $100,000 a lecture! Telling poor people to "cut back" and you're telling me businesses aren't doing enough?
I have a new definition for environmentalists - "a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements." in other words a hypocrite.
