- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26forget solar cells, my house is run on my own sense of self satisfaction.
- JAshbaugh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22This will only work until Mr. Burns blocks out the sun and makes them get back on the grid.
- Grumbleberries, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21A very environment-concious decision. Let's see some efficiency changes all around the USA now!
- dbalaski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This is a good start -- and a great application!
Every bit helps -- I am glad to see that they have a plan for evening (aka darkness) hours.
I wonder if they will be able to generate the appropriate amount of power to generate the amount of Hydrogen for off hours consumption ??
POINT TO MAKE -- while this will not give an instant Return On Investment, at current costs it will take a while to Pay for itself -- HOWEVER IT IS THE RIGHT DECISION FOR THE LONG-TERM!!!
Too many people want instant ROI, it just doesn't happen -- long term investment is the only way this and other countries will reduce dependence on Foreign Fuel Sources (OIL)
Without steps like this towards renewable , then our options are fossil fuel based or nuclear based ...
Lets hope people take notice and learn the lesson! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10solar power ftw
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dang, I wish I had the link here, but solar cells return as much energy as is used to make them in between 1.5 and 5 years, depending.
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually Warrzie, the CC will more than make its money back in the long run. Inefficient? How? They are going to have more than enough energy to power their schools. Not make a huge difference? Difference at... what? It will make a huge difference to the colleges since they will be able to spend their money elsewhere once these things are paid off.
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry but uhm... what? Yeah, they aren't 'bright'. You should know that the government usually shuts off power throughout the whole country except for important government cities.... constantly. Are you trying to suggest that every country do this? :|
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to hijack but this seems pretty cool too: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/10/alternative_ene_2.php
- cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Solar cells take a lot of energy to manufacture. You want ROI (Return On Investment) - not just in dollars, but in energy. The amount of energy it took to manufacture, deliver, install, and operate the solar cells needs to be superseded by the amount of energy they deliver over time.
If this new system lasts 10 years, they probably just break even energy-wise. - Burritovision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they could forego the expense of the solar panels by using a special water electrolysis that has magnetic waves repel one another, one found in the molecule, one found in electricity.
this will up-power the water molecule into HHO, which is a gas, or 2H2 + O2, which is pure hydrogen. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@GGider
Why try so hard to get blocked by many users? This is the second thread I've seen your spam link. If that article is good enough, it'll make it's way to the front page. Your spam is only hurting your thread. I already marked it as spam and more attempts from you on similar lines would just make the matters worse. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2An actual electric car infrastructure throughout the city and now solar-powered colleges. Hot damn.
- floorman56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are thet really going to "Unplug" from the grid? I bet not. I bet they stay on "just in case" Which means you still don't trust the tech.
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Man i would be pissed if i went there and they said they were going to use my tuition for this kind of thing.
- wolfzero, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Now if only there wasn't a car per student in the parking lot...
- Warrzie, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3It's expensive, inefficient and doesn't make a huge difference either way, but practicality isn't an environmentalist's strong suit.
