- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -3/+83Nature just needs to find a better marketer. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the same kind of brand recognition as Nike...although the idea of commercials for nature is quite intriguing.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+71SecurityMom has to let Junior go outside. Quit watching so much TV news that is bent on scaring you into believeing that there is a kidnapper, a rapist and an Al Qaeda mad bomber behind every tree.
Kids need to go out to the woods and build forts and play in the mud instead of sitting at home and watching 200 comercials every day - cigawoot, on 04/14/2008, -1/+50No Child Left Inside involves unfair taxation of video games, televisions, and video game consoles. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have to pay for another parent's laziness.
- covertress, on 04/14/2008, -2/+48Whatever happened to educational cartoons for kids? Can you 'sing' the preamble to the Constitution? I can.
- lickmyback, on 04/14/2008, -1/+45I can name all 50 states and their capitals thanks to Wakko Warner... and I'm not even American.

BonziBuddy - RoroCo, on 04/14/2008, -1/+24Wait... only 10 plants and animals? Are you telling me that kids cannot come up with 10 animals??? Dogs, cats, mice, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, deer, ants, worms, and spiders are all animals that kids could have seen from inside there homes. How was this test written?
I still agree that kids need to get out more, but I am not willing to take away that much credit from them. - Hetman, on 04/14/2008, -0/+22I think futurarama said it best. "Leela: Didn't you have ad's in the 20th century?
Fry: Well sure, but not in our dreams. Only on TV and radio. And in magazines. And movies. And at ball games and on buses and milk cartons and t-shirts and written on the sky. But not in dreams. No siree! - amdforever, on 04/14/2008, -4/+25And Diggers can identify all kinds of technical jargon, but fail to identify any female body features.
- Hetman, on 04/14/2008, -0/+20That makes sense. Plants and Animals are not actively trying to market themselfs to kids. Companies on the other hand are.
- americangoy, on 04/14/2008, -5/+24Sad.

- slvrbullet87, on 04/14/2008, -1/+11Because of the plant and the attitude they will only have one job ever... any guess where it would be
- CletusTSJY, on 04/14/2008, -6/+15Is anyone even mildly surprised or concerned about this? A capitalistic society is run by money, money comes from advertising. Yeah, we're blindsided with marketing every day, we're not blindsided with the names of plans and animals. Maybe when hippies get really outraged, they'll go around to all the gardens is the country putting big signs up, point out the names of all the plants and coming up with catchy jingles so they'll stick in our heads.
There are seriously more important things to get upset about. - StingingNettle, on 04/14/2008, -1/+10Check out the wilderness awareness school. Great place for learning for kids and adults alike. They even have a kids camp. http://www.wildernessawareness.org/ (its a non-profit)
- Radar3D, on 04/14/2008, -0/+9The old "See N Says" toy only had 10 animals on it. Coincidence?
The cow says "Moooooo!" - tuckergrhm, on 04/14/2008, -7/+15Who did they ask? My four-year-old can identify more than that in the way of animals alone.
- killbert24, on 04/14/2008, -0/+8Yeah, yeah. And kids can name Ronald McDonald before they can name Lincoln or Bush. We live in a society that is detached from the environment. We don't know where our food or water or anything comes from. I agree we could benefit from having kids learn more about nature.
- CheeseburgerBro, on 04/14/2008, -0/+8This is normal and expected.
Aboriginal children can identify hundreds of natural elements from their environment -- types of berries, roots and birds -- so why shouldn't urbanized western children have the same library of elements relevant to them?
Why should a kid in New York city be expected to recognize types of trees when it is far more relevant to their lifestyle to identify a subway entrance or a public telephone sign? - TRScheel, on 04/14/2008, -0/+8That damn song is still stuck in my head. Of all the songs, that one... why!?!
Its not useful anymore, I would rather have the constitution one in my head or the bill one. - kmusser, on 04/14/2008, -0/+8"I'm an amendment to be, I'm an amendment to be and I'm hopin' that they'll ratify me.
There's a lot of flag burners who have got to much freedom, I want to make it legal for
Policemen to beat 'em!" - rspeed, on 04/14/2008, -0/+8What if people say you're not good enough to be in the Constitution?
Then I'll crush all opposition to me,
And I'll make Ted Kennedy pay.
If he fights back, I'll say that he's gay. - RyanOC, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7No *****, the plants and animals don't have a commercial advertising agency.
- rlombardo, on 11/05/2008, -0/+7The fact that the children couldn't identify more than ten animals leads me to believe that this is a biased report. Regardless, isn't the point of a logo to be recognizable?
- Grahamcracker, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7Oh! What is McDonalds, Alex?
- kingUssop, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7It's sad, but if you think about it many things won't fix it. Children going outside more will not teach them about plants and animals, they'll just play outside like kids do.
- pentupentropy, on 04/14/2008, -1/+8seriously, if you haven't read Bertrand Russell's "in praise of idleness" - read it,
- matu4251, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7it says "native to their backyards" in the video. So, elephants, giraffe, ... don't really count. Lets put dogs and cats aside, how many indigenous animals and plants from where you live can you name? :) (I'm not claiming to be good at the naming game)
- winnch, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6Simple. Companies should use plants and animals in their logos.
- kowalzki, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6penis?
- rspeed, on 04/14/2008, -2/+8Vote Ron Paul!
…what? It's on topic. - TRScheel, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6I'd be down for making the one about bears... although to do it justice we would need Stephen Colbert.
- Naegling, on 04/14/2008, -1/+7 Inner city youth might see a hawk once a week IF they are looking for one, they see a Nike symbol 200 times a day... These outdoor school programs are the first ones to get axed because the teachers insurance premiums go up 2% during their contract. The sad fact of the matter is schools today do not teach "critical thinking" they teach memorization of approved "facts". You wonder why we are falling behind other 1st world countries in education? it's because we indoctrinate and don't educate.
- DouglasScott, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6I work in a school. To inspire the kids I have identified 110 kinds of wildflowers in the local park. I ***** thee not, sir.
- gthyb, on 04/14/2008, -1/+7The video said 10 plants and animals "native to their backyards".
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6I thought those were birds....
- racco, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5shock horror!! Advertising works.
those plants and animals better get a good marketing company behind them quick! - wbeavis, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5Shouldn't you be watching those kids instead?
- terracottapai, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5Frankly, you have a leg up on 90% of our own population.
- leerayIG88, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5I like feet.
- jjustice, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4No, Hetman, actually, this is another example of how corporations are always evil. You must be new to digg.
/sarcasm - Zippo, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4I have to agree... seriously, why does this surprise anyone? The same would certainly be true (if not more so) for most adults.
The definition of a good logo (and good marketing) is one that people remember. People see logos in everyday life, consistently. Most logos are solid, unique shapes and thusly much easier to remember.
Especially for people living in urban area - they see logos far more often that wildlife.
In short, people are more likely to recognize and remember simple, unique shapes they see frequently over wildlife they see rarely. Duh. - SargedeathXmode, on 04/14/2008, -3/+7Yeah... and have education prices skyrocket and people who cannot afford to go to school remain on the streets (governments can't mandate that students pay for education at private institutions)...
- sahaqiel, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4I was under the impression that if the Federal government would butt out of your education, the State could provide it ( maybe maintain reasonable prices ) ? If you Americans really dislike your Constitution you should just shred it already. It's only a step up from already stomping on it everyday.
- LogicBomB, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4It's almost like people, even at a young age, remember the things they want and consider important to day-to-day living, while ignoring the stuff that by and large is just kinda "there". Fascinating...
