- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -12/+48If only I could find an article that involves israel that degrades into the same old political bickering from both sides over and over again instead of addressing the content of the article.
Oh wait... - Corrina41, on 11/17/2008, -7/+40This is what I like to see. Creative ways to change things for the better.
- GuacamoleSan, on 11/17/2008, -27/+52Amazing to see the number of Israel haters on digg. The jews are given a sliver a of land among a swath of muslim nations who want to push them into the ocean and somehow its Israel's job now to support the Palestinians even when the Palestinians want to kill every Israeli, it would be like us supporting a mexican uprising against the United States
- jhbarr, on 11/17/2008, -6/+27Well, I at least can tell you did not RTFA.
Hiriya has been mostly abandoned since 1952, tended to only by sanitation staff—it received daily loads of trash from garbage trucks from around Tel Aviv. Now, incoming waste is instead sorted by the state-of-the art recycling facility, and Ayalon Park is expected to receive thousands of visitors a day.
Please take your propoganda and shove it. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -15/+35Even the idiots who hate Israel will find a way to pounce on Israel over this. Every Jew in Israel could commit simultaneous suicide and it wouldn't make them happy, they'd complain the Jews didn't first give all their possessions to the Palestinians in their will.
- lilSears, on 11/17/2008, -0/+18Displaced or voluntarily left due to the creation of the state or other political problems?
Land wasn't necessarily taken. The UN mandate of 1947 technically gave Israel that land. Not to mention much of it was bought from arab notables (former ottoman notables) and they couldn't refuse the high priced offers, although the transactions were extremely unfair to the share croppers working them. - zacattac50, on 11/17/2008, -7/+26ignorant, ignorant, ignorant.
- Lst01, on 11/17/2008, -5/+23The Israelis are at the forefront of environmental innovation. It would be nice if some our large urban cities adapted some of the same policies. But then I'm biased since I live in Houston.
- monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -5/+22What about the 900,000 Jews displaced by the Arabs before and after the establishment of Israel?
- gilcohen90, on 11/17/2008, -7/+23but it's totally okay for suicide bombings and the deaths of Israeli civilians.
- vault, on 11/17/2008, -3/+18Arabs have full voting rights, have served on the Knesset, on the Israeli Supreme Court, in the IDF, and as ambassadors.
Palestinians, that is- Jordanians who happened to be living in land Israel won in a defensive war who were never Israeli citizens to begin with- don't have the same rights citizens of any religion do in Israel. If Israel were to give them full citizenship, then they would in effect be annexing the West Bank and Gaza, which I'm sure you'd complain about anyway. - yor1001, on 11/17/2008, -11/+26Antisemitics are raviging digg...I blame that digg.com link beneath youtube videos. Its bringing the racist idiots over.
- thegreatalpal, on 11/17/2008, -5/+20You ever been to Israel? Until you see it and experience it for yourself, STFU.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+15The Pro Trash Dump lobby speaks.
- monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -1/+15Hey, I'm not asking for my grandparents land back. I'm just saying, don't bother me with your own leader's mistakes decades ago.
- lamjester313, on 11/17/2008, -5/+19Give me a break,
There's an article about an Israeli garbage dump turned park and you use the opportunity to talk about how bad Israel is to the Palestinians? Did the article mention Palestinians ONCE?
You guys never stop.
Get over it. - thegreatalpal, on 11/17/2008, -3/+16I believe you mean Palestinians.
And it goes both ways. Neither side is innocent. - monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12They had to pay a dhimmi tax which is greater than the islamic tax.
From the link you provided:
"in return for paying tribute and acknowledging Muslim supremacy."
"Various restrictions and legal disabilities were placed on Dhimmis, such as prohibitions against bearing arms or giving testimony in courts in cases involving Muslims."
"Most of these disabilities had a social and symbolic rather than a tangible and practical character.[17] All of them, however, were designed to eliminate other religions in a deliberate, long-term process. "
"Dhimmi communities were subjected to the payment of taxes in favor of Muslims" - lilSears, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13The past year, Israel was the only country in the world with a net gain in number of trees.
- monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12I think you'll need a leader who indoctrinates you and your people while robbing you out of billions before you'll turn into an armchair suicide bomber.
- ghettojafar, on 11/17/2008, -1/+13yeah, good call. we all know that every palestinian wants every israeli dead. Way to make such astute political observations on an article about a goddamn landfill rather than allow yourself to indulge in racial bigotry and crude slanderous sterotypes about an entire nation. It's great that we've gotten through the days of turning every article pertaining to something even slightly politically sensitive into a message board for arab bashing and jew bashing and mygodisbetterthenyou bashing. Heres an idea; grow the ***** up.
- monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12@Bravo,
they leaved peacefully as third class citizens, as dhimmis. the american colonies lived peacefully for hundreds of years. we all know how that ended. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -5/+17Usually when i'm grocery shopping, I make sure to ask someone to point out the differences between oranges and apples too.
it's was enough for you? - zolthar, on 11/17/2008, -0/+11No, but it has a lot to do with brainwashed slogan recycling propaganda drones, which are as stupid.
And lately, the Jew haters are disguising themselves as legitimate Israel criticizers. It's a common strategy. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -3/+14I don't know, why hasn't the US signed it? Do you think they are guilty of apartheid too? Is this the kind of argument you want to make?
Btw, israelis are mostly arabs too, and if you think anyone is discriminated on the basis of being arab, well, it's clear you've never been there. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+13And by "suicide bomber" you mean "furious blogger", right?
- jhbarr, on 11/17/2008, -1/+12Yeah, damn those immigrants for not assimilating. I guess you are for the Minutemen in the US.
BTW, the majority of the Jews in Israel, before the migration of Russian immigrants, were from Middle Eastern countries. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -3/+14The joooos - dey tuk er lend!
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -7/+18Well, then maybe you should put your money where you mouth is and boycott it!

Wouldn't want to look like a hypocrite after all... - Lst01, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9Yes, your comment proves that you're unfamiliar with the concept of research.
Even Hamas and Islamic Jihad aren't claiming that they've used biological weapons against them. - monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -3/+13This is SPARTA!!!
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -5/+15Oh silly me, I thought we were actually going to do something simple like use the term as it's defined by, oh I don't know, the International Criminal Court?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_of_apartheid#IC ...
So, do you believe the palestinians are a "racial group"?
But if you want to play appeal-to-authority fallacy, I can schedule some time in later. - vault, on 11/17/2008, -0/+10Capturing Mexico City wouldn't be necessary to counter your ill-conceived war of aggression, so that's a bad example. If the conflict took place in a border city, that would be a different story.
International law is what it is- land you win in a war of aggression is not yours legally, land won in a defensive war is. That is one of the reasons 'anti-Zionists' try to say Israel started it.

- NorthMass, on 11/17/2008, -5/+15Paulc87 has been nominated for most ignorant post of the year. Tune in at 8 PM this Wednesday on FOX to see who wins.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+11Jew betcha!
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -3/+13Very true. When someone like tikited says "what stinks? oh yea, the jews", it's actually a very subtle critique of the 1990s IDF policies under Ariel Sharon, and you'd have to be some kind of "zionist" to accuse someone who made that statement as being anti-semitic.
- vault, on 11/17/2008, -4/+14Who did it belong to before the rightful owners got it back in 1948? Are you suggesting the land be given back to the United Kingdom or the Ottoman Empire?
Name a time in history when the Palestinians ran their own state. I'll wait right here. - monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9I hate dictators
- zolthar, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8Please do so, you politically brainwashed slogan recycling puppet.
But you wont fit even Jeff Dunham's show. - monsieurginger, on 11/17/2008, -2/+11Are so many things wrong with what you just said. Are you saying that every Israeli is dictator? And if so, which country do I rule?
If you are saying that they are dictators of Israel, then that means that only one person rules, and the others don't have the right to vote. If so, who is the dictator? If it is ruled by a multiple of people, its a republic, or a democracy.
Hence, you FAIL. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -7/+16Wow, thats great , every one should learn this from Israel.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -5/+14Say hi to the abuse team for me.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -3/+12Inhuman! So where are the palestianians who lived there going to live now?
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+11Quick - there's a British army contingent under your bed - take action!
- wpi97, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8"If America were to be attacked by Mexico and defeated the Mexican army, would they then be permitted to annex Mexico City?"
So, in what country do you think the present-day states of California, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico were located in 1835? I'll give you a hint: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:M%C3%A9xico_Div ...
"That does not make sense!
Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor.
Why would a Wookiee - an eight foot tall Wookiee - want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? "
I could not agree more! Israel was attacked numerous times with the openly stated goal of totally annihilating it. Israel has won every time, capturing territory in the process. Yet, Israel has offered to return captured territory in exchange for peace! In fact, it has returned territory: the Sinai, the security zone in southern Lebanon, and the Gaza strip.
Indeed, this does not make sense! Side A keeps trying to destroy side B. Side B keeps beating side A, winning land. Then side B says: "Here's most of your land back, please don't do it again", while side A keeps trying to destroy side B.
Chewbakka does live on Endor, and it does not make sense! - odkin, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9Re: my comments above, I was refering to the ARAB countries. Of course Israel has the highest living standard and most Americanized culture.
- hadees, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8The question you should be asking is if Israel's intention was to force out 700,000 Arabs then why the hell did they leave 156,000 Arabs in Israel only to make them full citizens?
And why doesn't anyone care about the roughly same number of Jews who were forced out of Arab lands? The financial loss was estimated at more then twice that of the Palestinians. So the Arab states could have, if they had wanted to, could have put up all the Palestinians in the seized Jewish property and given them twice what they once had. -
