- cptshamrock, on 10/23/2008, -1/+65You can't increase the MPG once the gas has been burned by attaching some "filter" to the tailpipe. This sounds like the "100 MPG Carburetor" in new clothing.
" - samoan27, on 10/23/2008, -3/+50"And it increases the volumetric efficiency of the engine"
The article had me until that point. You know this thing is a load of crap when it makes up a term like "volumetric efficiency". A better catalytic converter? Maybe; hell all it needs to do is act like a second one and it will capture additional carbon-monoxide that would have originally escaped. But the vendors had to get greedy and start making claims like "improves gas mileage" and now I'm convinced everything about it is snake oil. - Hosalabad, on 10/23/2008, -1/+45This is *****. There is no way that you can improve fuel efficiency by adding a restriction to the exhaust.
- Infidelcastr0, on 10/23/2008, -1/+33Sticking a filter on the end of your tailpipe may very well clean the exhaust a bit, but there's no way it's gonna make your engine more volumetrically efficient.
- Soriven, on 10/24/2008, -0/+22Sweet! If I combine that with one of these: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=t ... I'll get 50% more MPG!!!!
/facepalm - astutissimo, on 10/24/2008, -0/+16How did this retarded spam get to the first page?
- OceanSpud, on 10/24/2008, -0/+13we will all have super powers to fly in the year 2011 anyway, so none of this matters
- hmphargh, on 10/24/2008, -0/+13Sounds like smoke and mirrors to me.
- Koookie, on 10/24/2008, -1/+13Snake oil; please bury as spam.
- thedrue, on 10/24/2008, -0/+11The term volumetric efficiency has been in use for a long time, they did not make it up. It refers to the ability of an engine to fill the cylinders completely thus running as efficiently as possible. Forced induction (IE turbo or super chargers) increase VE. Adding a filter to the exhaust might filter out a few things but it will certainly be a restriction and having a clogged exhaust most definitely does not improve volumetric efficiency!
- anmweber, on 10/24/2008, -0/+11This is just an advert.
- freezerburn666, on 10/24/2008, -1/+11it goes woo wooooooo
- AltF3, on 10/24/2008, -0/+10I agree, this just sounds like its restricting exhaust which would DECREASE mpg.
- drgkstep, on 10/24/2008, -2/+10total crap. treehugger is full of *****, and I'm pro-green. No amount of filtering could possibly effect gas mileage, basic science fail. and if all it took to cut down emissions was a filter it would be used by every manufacturer who has to meet emissions standards. from now on treehugger.com=buried.
- DjArcadian, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8This is such a load of crap. Restricting your exhaust will cause your car to lose power which will LOWER your fuel efficiency.
- cam0man, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8Looks like a great way to increase your back pressure enough to fill the cabin full of dream-land inducing carbon monoxide.....
- chaaalieboy, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8Bury this *****. It's been around for ages. who the ***** diggs this ***** up, anyway?
- starmanfalls, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8No. It will plug up you exhaust and mess your engines performance. Stupid gimmick to get money from dumb people.
- kevlar21, on 10/23/2008, -1/+8How is a filter a new innovation?
- Chris_F, on 10/24/2008, -0/+7And if you eat it, it will increase the size of that particular part of the male body...
I call *****. Just another shady-ass company trying to score big bucks off a new eco-friendly fad. That guy in the video even looks like he probably sells/sold eXtenz.
The sad thing is, just like penis enlarging pills, this product will sell due to the gullibility of people, and more companies will rush in with more fake crap to get a part of the action. - shadowspawn, on 10/24/2008, -0/+6Ok, a friend tried one of these and has an article about to come out in a sanfran newspaper.
This ***** doesn't do jack on a motorcycle except make the muffler about 30f hotter because of back pressure. Ok it's not a car, and motorcycles do not go through emissions tests like cars, but he gave it a whirl.
It damn near blew his exhaust gaskets out; they crumbled within 1k miles on a trip to the mountains.
Like I said it wasn't a car but he took the effort to shoe-horn the damn thing on his bike exhaust to see what it did.
Leave it up to the manufacturers if you want something like this on your vehicle, that's all I can say. If GM or Ford or anyone can improve millage you best damn be sure that they will do it and sell it on their vehicles. - Shagmire, on 10/24/2008, -0/+5buy a go-kart
- olenick, on 10/24/2008, -2/+7The most eco-friendly mode of transportation is to walk or bike; it makes your butt shrink too.
- TheKorn2, on 10/24/2008, -1/+6Buullllllllshhhhhiiiiiittttt! Yes, let's stick a filter on the end of the tailpipe which will cause a BACKPRESSURE on the engine. Yes, and we'll tell them that no, it won't decrease your MPG but it'll magically increase it! Yes, yes, yes!!! (no, No, **NO!!!!**)
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -0/+5This thing will increase your fuel economy about as much as Bubb Rubb and Lil Sis.

After reading this blatant ad disguised as a blog post I will never click another TreeHugger story again. - krnldmp, on 10/24/2008, -2/+6No, you idiot.
- kentifer, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4Sounds like a cash grab to me.
- SgtAl, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4Stuffing a potato wrapped in rags will also reduce your cars emissions. Buried as complete hokum.
- jmnormand, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4walking burns to many calories which mean more food production which is bad for the enviroment. just sit on your couch all day and watch opra like the rest of us if you want to help the envorment skinny boy...
but really the bicycle is really the most efficient mode of transportation man has ever mass produced. - Shagmire, on 10/24/2008, -1/+5is that some kind of ***** up cookie cutter?
- c0re1337, on 10/24/2008, -1/+5*****.
- Paulish, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4The thing with most after market car devices: If they worked as well as advertised, don't you think the car manufacturers would put it in the car, or at least offer it as an option?
- Musicmonkey34, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4THIS IS SCAM. it has been around for years, and does nothing.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 10/24/2008, -1/+5Letting the air flow through easier makes the motor work less and increases fuel mileage. Look into aftermarket free flow style mufflers and aftermarket performance catalytic converters. This device on the other hand is nothing more than a filter and WONT help fuel mileage. It may even hurt it.
- Spuy767, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4It's something that you're supposed to install in your intake, pre-MAF, and the MAF will normalize all air flow any way, so you would basically be buying a 30$ piece of twisted metal to decrease the efficiency of your car's cold air intake.
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4100% complete *****?
- redragon104, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4burrid, dumb
- njiska, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3By blocking the tail-pipe they're creating extra back pressure. Extra back pressure makes it hard for the engine to vent exhaust, therefore it can't get more air into the engine and in order to keep the mixture right it will spray less fuel. So you'll burn less fuel with each stroke. You'll also lose power and to make up for that lost power you'll have to dump more fuel into the engine and you'll end up right back where you started.
- borez, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4Well if Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Laura Dern and the Crystal method are into it, it must be true.
- legoalert33, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4Bury as inaccurate.
- roho76, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Well ***** Sheryl "I only use one square of toilet paper to wipe my ass" Crow likes it.
I'm in, man. Sign me up. - inactive, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3but how will i get that bawwwwww sound from my civic?
- collution, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4I agree, either that or the earth will be destroyed a meteorite by the end of 2012.
- LucasVB, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3B-B-but.. Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Laura Dern and Crystal Method believe on it! So it must be true!
- AltF3, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3You know what, you're right, lets just stick these filters on our huge SUVs so that we get 5 miles per gallon, but who cares, we filter out half of the bad *****. It's not like burning twice as much gas will negate any filtering benefit.
/s - iDHype, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Not if Hiro recovers his father's secret formula!
- thedrue, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3considering it will block the exhaust pipe preventing the technicians from sticking the exhaust sniffer into it... I think they wont be so thrilled!
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -2/+5I wish the buzz word green would go away.
- jhandfield, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4But does it come in ricer size?
