- jdhowell, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3The magnitude of error made by the majority of our people (those who approved of our current leader - twice). We must make amends. We must cultivate minds, trees, peace - for the sake of all life on earth... not just human life. Please send this article to someone who needs to consider the choices we've made.
See you out there, on my bike, of course... JD Howell in Eugene, OR - stevetarbell, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2How is indeed exactly the question. We need a Separation of Oil and State in this country, and people need to demand that their representatives stop taking oil money. Check out http://www.oilmoney.priceofoil.org
- douglassmyth, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2The problems we face are: the mass media, which support the war, or at least don't support getting out; the defense industry; the military forces, or significant parts of the officer-corps, and the politicians who are indebted to them--for jobs for their constituents (in nearly every Congressional district) and for the campaign funds they gain from them.
We spend more than the rest of the world combined plus $150 billion more than that. The MSM depends upon, in some cases like GE is owned by the defense industry. Now do you see!
Damage to the planet from this war is yet another powerful argument for WHY we shouldn't be in this war, but the crucial problem is not the why, but the HOW. How are we going to beat these powerful interests with more money than any but the government itself?
There is only one way. Mobilize politically against this war and against global damage, and for green technology and a green society.
Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are equally persuasive on the second part, Obama most likely to get us out of their in the first part. McCain is the worst, since, despite his "moderate" image, he's even more warlike than Bush: he's campaigning for MORE wars--and says it's possible we'll be in Iraq for 100 years! His environmental record is pretty bad, just not as bad as his foreign policy. - inactive, on 03/19/2008, -2/+4"In 2006, the US spent more on the war in Iraq than the whole world spent on investment in renewable energy."
- m0usie25, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1I think it's time we all started paying attention...
