- trammell, on 06/27/2008, -13/+82Calling an image map "interactive" feels like a bit of a stretch.
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -6/+31The map needs to be rethought. These should have been broken up into ecosystem regions and not into intangible cardinal direction regions. It's not representative.
- sleepyjjk, on 06/28/2008, -5/+21This made me think of a quote.
"In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught." (Baba Dioum, 1968.) - inactive, on 06/28/2008, -15/+29Buried ... fear mongering *****
- crazyjake, on 06/28/2008, -5/+19Allthe animals currently alive have survived warmer tamperatures than we are seeing now, the Medieval Warm period was much warmer than it is now. The real issue should be about the animals' ability to survive when we have driven then out of their natural habitats and decimated their numbers this low already.
- GiveM3aBJ, on 06/28/2008, -13/+26Oregon is having one of its coldest summers yet. this is probably from outdated information or inaccurate.
- rossisdead, on 06/28/2008, -1/+14I don't see why you're being dugg down for this. I wanted to say the exact same thing.
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -1/+14I love the total lack of facts.
"Global warming may already be impacting the Northeast, as evidenced by recent mild winters, earlier springs and later falls, and increasing extreme weather events." - inactive, on 06/28/2008, -13/+25Rising sea levels? Buried for junk.
- screamthenrun, on 06/28/2008, -10/+22I clicked on Northeast.. and then I stopped reading because none of it was true... They just spouted what is assumed to have happened as a result of "climate change" when in fact that hasn't happened yet. We don't have milder winters or earlier springs or anything like that. Whoever wrote this is just saying what the prediction is but is acting like it has already taken place.
- PShot07, on 06/28/2008, -12/+21Now I believe global warming even less. I live in the midwest, so I was only interested in what they had to say about where I live.
First, it talks about how rising temperatures will cause less rain. It has to quickly cover up the fact that we have had more rain than usual this summer (hence my city being partially underwater). We are suppose to trust them that this summer was a fluke. Then they go on to explain that water holes will dry up so there will be less ducks. Currently, there is a slight overpopulation of ducks causing food shortages for other creatures in their habitats. If this theory of theirs is correct, then preventing the change will be worse than stopping it. To me it seems like mother nature is correcting herself. There is no global warming. - liljay2k, on 06/28/2008, -3/+10Not very interactive.
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -16/+23As I live in the Southeast, I clicked on the map's Southeast region and got this:
"Rising sea levels put the Southeast’s fragile coastal and wetland areas at-risk, especially in the low-lying Everglades ecosystem, where many areas are only barely above sea level."
What rising sea levels? Oh, you mean in THEORY if it were to happen? OK.
"Sea rise also brings salt water farther inland, harming wildlife and plants adapted to fresh water."
True...if it were to happen.
"Entire coastal forests along the Gulf of Mexico are dying due to salt water moving in, while coastal fisheries are being seriously impacted as coastal marshes are displaced or destroyed."
Show me the evidence that this is happening. Then show me the evidence that ocean levels are increasing and thus are causing the Gulf of Mexico's water level to increase too. I've been to the coast. I have yet to SEE one iota of evidence that sea levels are increasing.
"Global warming may contribute to increased frequency and intensity of hurricanes, which threatens coastal habitats and low-lying islands with damage and erosion."
Global hysteria bullcrap. In fact, the climate change groupies were recently quoted as saying that the LACK of hurricanes might be due to the change in global climate. Well, which is it, you environmentalist wackos?
"More rain is also projected to lead to more flooding, as well as reduced water quality."
Bullcrap. More rain does not automatically equal more flooding...at least in 90% of the Southeast. Where you build towns and cities at or below sea level with very little natural drainage, well then of course they'll be flooding. But, this quote makes it seem like flooding would occur in a widespread fashion. Please.
"And as sea temperatures rise, coral reef ecosystems are especially vulnerable and widespread coral “bleaching” is projected to increase."
WHAT?!? Does the author even have a clue what causes the bleaching of coral reefs? - tommq, on 06/28/2008, -3/+9That quote is engraved in a plaque at The Bronx Zoo. Its significance is becoming evermore relevant.
- Gregbertt, on 06/28/2008, -2/+8"Whoever wrote this is just saying what the prediction is but is acting like it has already taken place."
Dugg you up for noticing that. Your last statement pretty accurately describes the entire Global Warming argument in general.
In my opinion. - HeroicLife, on 06/28/2008, -4/+10The earth may well be warming, but the earth’s climate is always changing – the idea that there is an “optimal” climate is a myth. Adapting to a warmer climate has many costs, but many benefits as well. Imagine the enormous territories in Siberia and Canada that might finally be open to settlement, and the resources and shipping routes that will become available.
Even the most alarmists of scientists generally agree that there is little humanity can do to influence the global climate for many decades, even if we wrecked an industrial civilization that has allowed billions of people to leave immeasurably longer and better lives. Our resources would be far better spent creating innovative technology that allows us to make the best of a constantly changing climate than crippling industrial civilization (our best tool for dealing with a constantly changing world) in a futile attempt to stop climate change. - inactive, on 06/27/2008, -13/+19It not only shows you the area but also the animals that are greatly impacted.
- JakeBC, on 06/28/2008, -3/+8According to the map, all this climate change appears to stop at the US border. Looks like I'm safe!
- nixfu, on 06/28/2008, -10/+15>***may contribute***
Pretty much sums it up there....bunk and guesses. - MyFirstDigg, on 06/28/2008, -5/+10"NORTHEAST - Global warming may already be impacting the Northeast, as evidenced by recent mild winters"
MILD WINTERS!? We had record breaking snow falls, and not just as random large storms, but a consistent and continual snow fall. We haven't had a winter like it for 15+ years.
This site is worse than milliondollarhomepage.com, atleast they had some interesting and factual information, but I'm guessing both are becoming equally rich off it. - BlueSkyfish, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5Up here in Pennsylvania, we just went through one of the warmest winters on record.
Local weather != Global climate. - fredJdukes, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6how is it 'useful' ?
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -3/+7How can you not see that we are entirely dependent on the environment? This is just as much about humanity as it is wildlife and everything else.

http://www.ipcc.ch/ipccreports/ar4-syr.htm - inactive, on 06/28/2008, -5/+9Global warming and the Iraq takeover are based on collective fear. What are the motives behind this? I would say money and control, plain and simple. Let's get this straight..... politicians care about our well-being by restricting constitutional rights and controlling more and more of our lives?
Bertrand Russell said it best:
"Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd."
If you're a non-believer, you're persecuted. You have a choice on whether or not to buy into collective fear for profit. - PolarBearCa, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4Those studies don't fit with the current agenda.
And of the 250 years of data we DO have, much of the first 150+ years is highly suspect.
Overall, you have to make assumption after assumption to make "Climate Change" theories fit, because there is no way to account for every variable. There are some things we have don't even have tools to measure yet.
So, live efficiently, don't waste *****, and think about the impact the things you do could have on the environment. Focusing on pollution and air quality issues is far more important than "carbon", and toxic substances being spread over the earth and dumped in the oceans is going to have a much bigger negative impact on feeding people than even a worst-case scenario of several degrees rise in temperature.
Have you ever noticed that many of the biggest "climate change" promoters suggest you should buy offsets instead of using less? They're just shifting an out-of-control consumer society to buy stuff from THEM. Can't imagine why anyone would be motivated to do that.
I know. I must be an oil company shill, because no one but them would point out that there is also a financial benefit to greenwashing people. - SoxFanNH, on 06/28/2008, -9/+12What a joke, they talk about warmer winters in New England even though many spots broke their snowfall records last winter. Come on...
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -11/+14Buried as inaccurate, in Washington state we had record snowfall this past year. We also had the coldest April on record - ever.
- chukd, on 06/28/2008, -8/+11Out of all this global warming stuff, why do people neglect to say that the Earth naturally goes through cooling and warming cycles. I am not saying men have not contributed to warming of the Earth. The neocons would have everyone believe that if man died away, the planet would be one temperature all the time. This is a falsehood. Where are their statistics on the natural cycles of the Earth. It does not hurt humans to live more green but we are not solely responsible.

- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4I did not get any further than INCREASED HURRICANE ACTIVITY! That is the type of sensationalists ***** that global warming nut jobs like to believe when in fact just the opposite is true. Warming of the globe will reduce wind shear in the Indian Ocean which will REDUCE hurricanes not increase them. It is one of the coldest summers in Vancouver BC in recent history - where is the global warming??? There has not been a Hurricane in Florida in two consecutive years, where is the Global Warming??? Global Warming and the CO2 effect is still a theory based mostly on political considerations and sensationalized by people like Al Gore who like to grandstand and relabel themselves for political purposes and some DIGGERS are the kind of people who like to believe it! Its a pity that critical thinking skills are so weak in so much of the population.
- trogdor282, on 06/28/2008, -8/+11How is one cold summer in one area even vaguely relevant to a theory about a decade-by-decade global trend?
- drakethegreat, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4We had record cold temperatures in Seattle too. Colder then Siberia was one of the headlines. Also we haven't lacked snow pack consistently. That's not to say that I think global warming is totally wrong but the way this page describes it is completely retarded and based on no scientific research. OMG its going to get cold and snow will melt! That doesn't count...
- TedLW30101, on 06/28/2008, -6/+9 Besides, there is nothing wrong with the planet. Nothing wrong with the planet. The planet is fine. The PEOPLE are *****. Difference. Difference. The planet is fine. Compared to the people, the planet is doing great. Been here four and a half billion years. Did you ever think about the arithmetic? The planet has been here four and a half billion years. We've been here, what, a hundred thousand? Maybe two hundred thousand? And we've only been engaged in heavy industry for a little over two hundred years. Two hundred years versus four and a half billion. And we have the CONCEIT to think that somehow we're a threat? That somehow we're gonna put in jeopardy this beautiful little blue-green ball that's just a-floatin' around the sun?
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!

I guess we'll know who is correct in what - a hundred thousand years or so?
You want *me* to show how the science is wrong? Classic lazy debate tactic. I let educated scientists do that just as you are doing. You choose to believe one half of the argument. So do I. Nothing more can really be said between two who are just listening to others. The difference is that I admit my opinion is an *opinion*. Give that a try and see how it feels.
The burden of proof is on the prosecution. In other words, Global Warming believers have to prove it exists. I don't have to prove it doesn't. They haven't proven it exists *in my opinion*. In fact each subsequent attempt to do so is met with more and more ridicule as the masses begin to come to their senses, and the media stops - wait for it - blowing this out of proportion.. The good news is that by the time it takes to truly gather the data needed to support this silly notion we'll all be on clean energy - something I believe we both agree we need to do.
Eventually you will run out of surreptitiously funded studies to quote as this alarmist junk fades away and you gain a bit of perspective.
With all due respect, I admire the convictions of the Global Warming true-believer flock, but I will respectfully retain the notion that it's all a bunch of hooey. - santaliqueur, on 06/28/2008, -1/+4Right. Gotta think about food too.

- BlueSkyfish, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2What part of the Northeast are you talking about? Here in Philadelphia, we've only had three snowfalls last year, and the biggest one was less than three inches. We had a lot of rain though.
- greenfyre, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3Interesting, since no such map existed. Although clearly you are from another reality, so I guess it's not surprising
- inactive, on 06/28/2008, -2/+4We still have winter snow pack on our mountain ranges in the Pacific N.W. ... in JULY!
