- savingadvice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11apologies...I like turtles and that was the one that caught my eye when looking through them. Didn't even realize I didn't start at the beginning...
- Rayza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Too bad there aren't more..
- Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The frog looks very nonchalant about the fact it is being eaten..
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10He could try linking to the first picture - http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/10/photogalleries/animal-photos/index.html
@ beelz
2006 > 2005 pics
IMHO
But thanks for the link - TheOAF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The site is down when I tried.

2005 - Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great pics; my favorites are the turtle getting groomed by tangs, and the mimic octopus (which is one of the most fascinating creatures in the world). But the overall winner, the one that is supposed to be a face-to-face encounter with a walrus? I am having a hard time making sense of the photo. It just looks like some animal kicking up a bunch of dirt on the seafloor, but not much else. Kind of indistinct if you ask me.
- Feanor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Ehlmé, who has filmed walruses for National Geographic Television, is the first person to photograph the animals feeding underwater. Diving with walruses is fraught with danger..."
It probably won more for that than the actual picture. - OrlyonokEaglet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I especially like the walrus "Beast of the Sediment" photo, too bad there isn't a high res version avialable (I've been looking for it for some time...)
I think it would benefit the photographers and the contest a lot more if they released the winning photos to the public. People who go to exibitions would go anyway. - pureliquidhw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2oops...
- pureliquidhw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2argh, that makes 2...
- LostOnion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The snake let the frog go because of human intervention according to the text under the picture.
- ToRoE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ha! digg effect on national geographic! slow as a toad.
- SLYK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i agree...the turtle shot is amazing..
anyone know where to find bigger photos?? - IBadassI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's still down :( Can't they handle the digg effect? that's bent for the company they are.
- fantomonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wanna see =(
- LillebrorSerDig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dugg it because it shows the Dilemma. Sometimes You have just one choice. This won´t change the world, but others may.
- sonaboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Great article! Those photos are excellent.
- passive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The thing that strikes me about the Turtle photo is how the yellow fish in it look exactly like the yellow fish in Shell's ad campaign, and Shell seems to be the sponsor of the contest. Probably nothing to it, but still a bit interesting.
- oobuntu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0he shouldn't have intervened, and then got a great shot of the frog being eaten by the snake
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2***** resolution
- JWallsID6999, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2According to an article here on Digg a while ago, all seafood will be gone by 2048. Too bad for National Geographic; start designing virtual fish!
- Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Thats because its taken underwater, and light acts differently, giving it a strange look.
However I would be suprised if all these photos aren't photoshopped to perfection. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0You're thinking of tortoises.
- bickdigg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0goodbye sushis :/
time to build my own aquarium, I think - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Tomorrow they will announce a new videogame where the Frog hero and his snake companion fight baddies in the rainforest.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1thanks evolution!
http://thecreationfallacy.blogspot.com/ - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1You would too if you were dead.
- ursername180, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Anyone else think that the turtle image looks photoshopped to death? Pretty strange photo...

What is Digg?
