Probably because the most efficient and stable systems of resource management can be found in ecosystems, most notably among decomposers. by re-processing a waste product into a usable resource, the system can perpetuate itself (in theory) indefinitely, rather than burn out once the primary materials have been completely digested and spent.

- NoTiG, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1When will humanity learn (again) that urine is too valuable to be used as a fuel source... or flushed down the toilet where it is treated at the sewage plants and completely wasted. It is a sterile... very high nitrogen perfect fertilizer that should be somehow harvested and used locally to create sustainable organic (you actually aren't allowed to call it organic) farms.
