- CptBuck, on 07/08/2009, -1/+21Without pictures I don't even understand this story. So they saved a 14 acre oasis inside of a massive strip mine? Isn't that like killing someone and then cutting off a piece of their hair so that you'll have something to remember them by? I honestly don't know if I should feel good or bad about this story.
And what the hell is a dragline? - h8f8kes, on 07/07/2009, -4/+14Dugg for being a responsible steward of natural resources while still providing essential services to humans.
- malcolmlo, on 07/08/2009, -2/+11No pictures? This is the INTERNET not 1951! Buried.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+8Coal mining offers only temporary benefits to local communities, while at the same time rapes the land both now and in the future.
- ChristmasPoo, on 07/08/2009, -0/+510,000 awe *****'s and one att-aboy. This sounds more like a propaganda tool.
- bringitdownnow, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6Awww wow... Greenwashing.
Coal mining with a drag line, no matter the "precision" is still destructive and exploitative. - skipvt, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Well gosh, that makes strip mining OK then!
- AdeleMor, on 07/07/2009, -4/+7yeah... ironic, cuz it's still COAL MINING
- breetah, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3A Dragline is a huge excavator used in surface mining. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragline
I used to live near Falkirk and once they had to move the Prairie Rose (at the time the largest Dragline in the world) across a road, it's was pretty cool to watch it "walk". - bbarker, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3If you've ever seen one of these mines, they're not all as bad as you might think. I live near one of these areas and was surprised to see the results. They moved the top soil off and put it back after they'd dug out the coal. The land is actually in better shape than it was when they started. Lots of trees were planted and they even created a small lake. As an aside, the drag lines are amazing.
- viol999, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3It gets me how people will bitch and blame energy companies while they've got a plasma t.v. in every room and 4 cars in the driveway.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3The vast majority of people who are concerned about coal mining don't live like you've described.
- wrathbone, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Haha yeah, it's like a free ride when you've already paid!
- DavidCEisen, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2I have no t.v. and don't own a car. So suck it bitch.
- BrissyBoy, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2pics or it didn't happen
- rheaume, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Yeah ***** you too *****
- nullity, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Sure, trees can be replenished.
Now take an entire mountain, level it to get to the coal, dump the waste in a stream valley, and try to replenish that. - GeorgeStone2, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Haha yeah, it's like rain on your wedding day!
- viol999, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1I doubt that.
- Sagags, on 07/08/2009, -3/+2NICE! GG!
- viol999, on 07/08/2009, -3/+1So...you're stupid or poor or both?
- harrisbradley, on 07/08/2009, -6/+4If only trees could be replenished...
- rheaume, on 07/08/2009, -4/+2I spent a month working inside the heart of one of these monsters about a year back with my father inlaw who just passed a few days ago, RIP Paul
- RhymeThyme, on 07/08/2009, -5/+2No pricks, sure! This is a winter net not a gatling gun! Married.
- zoomaKabu, on 07/08/2009, -6/+1You are correct. You don't understand.
