RIP geek digg. - 1382747, on 03/25/2009, -2/+11"...a woman-owned electronics recycling and data destruction company."
So what? Because it's owned by women, women should use that company? ***** off. - nik707, on 03/25/2009, -0/+8I was looking for DIY projects, like make balloon animals from used condo....
Anyway, this is an address list were you can ship you stuff to for it to be recycled.
Ikea takes CFLs and Buy More takes all the other common crap. - inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+6VHS Tapes well if you have any special ones hidden in your night table you can send them to me. I'll make you famous its a win win for both of us
- SkippyDoorknob, on 03/25/2009, -0/+6They're delicious when warm!
- Intrusionv2, on 03/25/2009, -0/+6Dugg for the hot girl in thumbnail.
- grungefan, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5I'm thinking about going to the refrigerator to make a sandwich.
- namelessXsilent, on 03/25/2009, -1/+6I just put my CDs in the microwave
- Jabrams2, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4I'm not even kidding, I was actually wondering the other day if you can recycle VHSs. I have like 1,000 sitting in my basement from the good ole days. good stuff
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -1/+5Who the ***** cares if your business is woman owned?
- timothiuz, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4Girls dig Digg recyclers
- grungefan, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4Don't be ridiculous, women can't own property.
- idoj, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4Good tips, but I didn't find any of those things to be "unusual household items."
- Coffeedemon, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3At least in my workplace, if something is sensitive enough to get shredded it does not go into the recycling. It usually gets incinerated.
- greenprint, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3Awesome! I have a hard time throwing anything out that can potentially be composted, recycled, refurbished, repurposed... great to know that there are options for the giant piles of junk we all have and wonder "now what do I do with this?"
- OaklandNative, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3I really wish there was an easy way to opt out of Yellow Pages delivery. Seriously, when was the last time someone under 35 actually cracked one of those things open instead of just googling?
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3Sexism and nationalism are both retarded.
I don't care if your company is owned by a woman.
I don't care if your car is american or otherwise.
It's completely irrelevant. - ManHammer, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3foam peanuts are the worst -- more companies should use popcorn
- SkippyDoorknob, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3I'm seeing a lot less of the foam peanuts these days. More common are the little air pillow things.
- jehan60188, on 03/25/2009, -0/+36. Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs
...put bulbs in a thick plastic bag ... tie shut and place in the garbage.

Always glad to help! - RBobby, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2I don't know about anyone else here, but I'd rather drop off all my old VHS tapes at the salvation army than pay an arm and a leg to ship them to some anonymous VHS recycling facility.
- Biscuitz, on 03/26/2009, -1/+3Just because it's a "woman" magazine, doesn't mean the article is about "women" stuff.
I am not a man, so I don't have any particular reason to involve myself in a man's magazine, but sometimes, it's not all "man stuff".
The article wasn't even "womanish", you just decided that since it was a "woman's" magazine, you would spit your ***** (for what reason I don't know), in your dis-interest. If you didn't want to click the link, don't click it. There are lots of links I don't click but I don't go announcing "I AM NOT GOING TO CLICK THAT LINK, PEOPLE." - gl77, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2***** weird, the thought about recycling VHS tapes crossed my mind yesterday as i was browsing through a local thrift shop and saw an entire wall full of old vhs tapes.
- spiffza, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2The title should have "in USA"
- dazparkour, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Damn sexist women!
I want the other 9 businesses to say "man-owned" - hey, don't blame me, you wanted equality. - inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2woman don't find that doing business with someone just because they are the same sex as them sexist apparently..
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+2Peanut Hotline? Really?
- Biscuitz, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2I fail to see the "unusual". *shrugs*
- Biscuitz, on 03/25/2009, -3/+4We get it, you're gay. You hate women, blah blah blah.
- FAHQ2, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2This reminds me of one really stupid thing i noticed the other day.
All the paper shredders i have seen at work and even the one i have at home also shred CD/DVD's and credit cards.
However the shredded plastic CD/DVD's and credit cards all go into the same large bin as the shredded paper!
The engineers who designed these things should have realized that maybe this was not a good idea, since most workplaces and homes have this paper recycled, and plastic / paper are usually tossed in separate recycling boxes. - gl77, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1the problem with that is that the butter flavoring gets all over whatever youre shipping.
- billbugger, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2Ebay/Craigslist them. Someone will buy them.
- mazatta, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Now that I know CDs & DVDs are #7 plastic, they are going in with my usual recycling.
- JonyMill, on 03/25/2009, -2/+3I'm thinking about skipping my next class.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1my cd and dvds no longer in use become coasters.
- lilrabbit129, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Nope none.
- Zymophideth, on 03/25/2009, -1/+2Good article, to the point and informative. However, the problem i see is in order to get some of this stuff recycled you have to ship it somewhere. We need to make recycling more convenient because people are lazy and don't like spending money when they don't have to. I care deeply about the environment but I can't see myself paying to ship "garbage" to someone else, especially when I already pay for garbage and recycling pickup at my house. We need to demand more of our waste services, if they have to raise precises so be it, we can't rely on people to do the right thing. Education and guilt is good but ultimately we need to make all forms of recycling simple and convenient.
- RBobby, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1The site says to recycle them, they have to be mailed to some VHS recycling facility. I'd rather donate them to the local thrift store than spend $150 to send four huge boxes out through the mail at my expense.
- pumanegra2012, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Useful information
- Cornloaf, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Hopefully they do not ship the VHS tapes to the Philippines for recycling. I saw some homeless people that handled recycling of electronics in a section of Manila. Mostly they were disassembling CRT and motherboards and stripping the metals. One day they had several boxes of VHS tapes that were shipped from US. I thought "oh cool! They can recycle those!" Later that night I found the original shipping containers filled with all the tape from the VHS tapes. They cracked the cases open, unwound all the media, grabbed the plastic spools and plastic shells for recycling and tossed the rest back into the cardboard box and dumped it 2 blocks away on the sidewalk. I grabbed the US address so I could complain, but lost it in a bar later that night.
- BigManOnCampus, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1Batteries are an unusual household item?
- hanocorp, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1good article
- DirtPile, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1"Mails discs to Back Thru The Future (cdrecyclingforfree.com), a woman-owned electronics recycling and data destruction company. " ....women can own businesses now?!
- Coffeedemon, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1I agree. I've been saying the same thing. Download the cost and effort of recycling onto the user and many will not do it. If you're having trouble with paper or non-recyclable plastics ending up with the recyclable plastic then hire someone down on their luck to sort it for you and you'll get the general public to give you their recyclables. Make it too tough and they'll just toss it in the garbage.
- Cornloaf, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1I see mostly the cornstarch or sorghum based peanuts. It's fun to shock people by grabbing and handful and eating them.
- spiffza, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Re-using comes before Re-cycling. Try using Freecycle.org to share what you don't need.
- aduzik, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1The article is OK, but none of these things are unusual. You can probably find all ten of these things in any home in America.
- shaughn13, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1yeah, i tried that but for any drink that sweats it becomes annoying real quick.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1yeah woman magazine are rife with sexism but that kinda of wife beater/alcoholic mentality if they were men.. ie. not admitting to it.. hence they can't improve/change
