- smacksaw, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Wow...what a long article, and probably leaves more questions than it answers. The one thing I would focus on is that most of the potential carpoolers are already well-served by the T. If you have kids, a 2nd job or irregular work hours, you can't really carpool. I think that most of the people who would carpool already take public transport or carpool, while those who drive alone do so out of need and not choice far more often than not.
It's popular to paint people with the assumption brush of "lazy Americans, don't want to carpool", but the reality is that the way our cities and suburbs are structured you don't have the same opportunity as the Singaporeans mention in the article. It's like saying that Americans are fat and lazy because they eat junk food as opposed to their busy lifestyles only leave room for fast and cheap meals that are filled with horrendously unhealthy ingredients. If you could go to McDonald's and get a dollar menu of gourmet, natural, fresh and fast organic food, people would order it. But that's not feasible. And neither is carpooling for a great many people. It's an idealistic (albeit unrealistic) solution to a less than ideal situation in many instances. - RHMiller, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1How come? Because they're "Massholes", that's why. ;)
