- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -5/+90This violence is a DIRECT result of prohibition.
When was the last time you saw a tobacco grower get knocked off?
When was the last time you heard of a alcohol brewer killed?
Oh that's right... During Alcohol prohibition. The magical time when Al Capone and other gangsters were funded by a *gasp* illegal unregulated product in great demand. - morepowerr, on 07/10/2009, -7/+60so make it legal to grow.
- DigablePlanet, on 07/10/2009, -2/+33Both sides of the issue would be solved via legalization.
- jehan60188, on 07/10/2009, -4/+30you know those commercials where they show drug users (opiates) that were "just having fun" ended up funding terrorism?
well, it's the same thing- you smoke weed, you kill wildlife, and destroy parks. legalize it, grow it on private property, and leave my national parks alone! - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -4/+25All the tax money that is being wasted could become extra tax revenue if it would just be legalized.
- martinmeba, on 07/10/2009, -3/+23Last time I checked, marijuana was not a narcotic...
- mrmod, on 07/10/2009, -4/+22Legalize the cannabis. I want it organically grown, not covered pesticides. Also, I'd like to not have to worry about buying it anymore.
Since I'm in the mood to rant, I'll debunk one myth right now. There's the "weed makes you paranoid" stereotype. Well no *****, you're buying something illegal and if you're buying it for 15+ years; odds aren't in your favor. Paranoia would be considered evolution in another light, clinical response to a stimuli; aka, careful consumption due to a penalty.
But anyway. California (Governato: This means you.), let me end your economic strife! Legalize it! ...and then the rest of America.
Maybe we can also stop it with the 'Dude you must be high' or other statements regarding marijuana's impact on one's rational thinking abilities. Stop the pain. /s (but only a little) - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -4/+17Don't just digg it up. Don't just say "LEGALIZE IT."
End the violence now. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Write YOUR REPRESENATIVE. They won't hear your voice if you don't speak up.

http://www.mpp.org/federal-action/call-congress.ht ... - zephc, on 07/10/2009, -0/+12Did you just say 'meow'?
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+11@Frostek: Some people might grow it, but growing high quality weed requires more effort than the average person is probably willing to put forth.
- pygmy, on 07/10/2009, -2/+12VAPORIZE IT NOW
- Daerion, on 07/10/2009, -2/+10This is ***** insanity.
Legalize it already, allow people to either buy it in a store or grow a couple of plants at home (without selling for profit of course) and these problems will simply disappear within a very short timespan.
The utter stupidity of this blatantly failed war on drugs never ceases to amaze me. And yes, I do realize that there's a lot of financial interest (both that of individuals and corporations - think cotton or timber industries) behind criminalization of pot - but still. - B1665r, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8Yeah, because when I read MotherJones magazine, I think "The Man!". They are so much worse than National Review....
- Mujokan, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7His cat walked across the keyboard.
- Taiyoryu, on 07/10/2009, -2/+8FTA: 3.1 million pot plants seized in national forests in the year prior to last September had an estimated street value of $12.4 billion
Just to relate that to something that many Diggers like, "computer and video gaming industries... took in about USD$9.5 billion in the US in 2007" (Wikipedia)
That's a lot of untaxed revenue. Seriously, end the prohibition. - shig, on 07/10/2009, -2/+8At least Opioid and Cannabinoid sound similar. As to what could be their excuse for calling cocaine a narcotic, I have no clue.
- Kyzzyxx, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6idiot.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6How do they expect them to shoot at the DEA without guns?
- Bowd99, on 07/10/2009, -7/+11It's not a narcotic in the medical sense, but it's classified as such in a political sense as it puts it on a par with all drugs in the minds of the uninformed.
- denizen42, on 07/10/2009, -2/+6To some extent he's got a point.
Greed isn't a 'crime', and so 'America doesn't have a greed problem'. - Couchy, on 07/10/2009, -3/+7So basically everything I've seen on the show Weeds is true!
- grendelwraith, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5Weed only makes you paranoid, as it raises your blood pressure.
Once you know the process and practice self-awareness, the paranoia subsides. - Mujokan, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5It's just what they call semantic shift. You will find the variant meaning in the dictionaries.
Merriam Webster: "a drug (as marijuana or LSD) subject to restriction similar to that of addictive narcotics whether physiologically addictive and narcotic or not" - MWeather, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4"Who the hell would waste their money on outdoor-grown herb, anyway? "
The vast majority of pot smokers. - MatthewDuke, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4If legalized, most people would not grow their own weed for the same reason most people don't grow their own apples.
- sodade, on 07/10/2009, -2/+5I am too afraid of my government. We have plenty of proof that these overzealous drug warriors will go after anyone by any means they can get away with. Thanks to a bunch of corrupt judges, they can get away with plenty. When they decide to go after you, they can "legally" take everything you own. Being fairly successful in material ways, I have a lot to lose so I keep my mouth shut and the movement suffers because the voice of a social winner is worth more to the argument than 10,000 college kids. The enemies of truth and justice have stacked the deck in their favor.
- Opiate, on 07/10/2009, -3/+6You think Bush would have gotten away with what he did if they marketted him as a smart dude? Like when he was governor.. we are so easy to dupe.
- WilliamDavis, on 07/10/2009, -5/+8"Over the past decade, marijuana patches known as "grows" or "gardens" have sprung up on public lands across the West, including a third of California's national parks and nearly 40 percent of all national forests."
That sure is some misleading *****. This was probably paid for by the DEA or someone else trying to save their job. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3No, it's not misleading. It is the truth.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -2/+5Interestingly, the media seems to be paranoid about the effects of cannabis.
- jean4844, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4Check out the Drug War timeline at the same site. Hilarious. The feds scored smack for Sen. Joe McCarthy!
http://digg.com/politics/The_Altered_States_of_Ame ... - freedomischaos, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3with laz0rz!
- kurfu, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2...from orbit.
It's the only way to be sure. - Mujokan, on 07/10/2009, -2/+4Very much like the Prohibition era: http://www.mtv.co.uk/artists/steve-earle/video/cop ... http://www.steveearle.net/lyrics/ly-coppe.php#copp ...
- zebraz, on 07/10/2009, -2/+4According to the law marijuana is a narcotic.
Pretty stupid huh ? - MatthewDuke, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Please explain.
- sodade, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3"think cotton or timber industries"
More like judges, cops and prison owners. - grendelwraith, on 07/10/2009, -2/+4Don't forget the guards, the service providers, and the jobs in local communities.
The drug war has hooked small towns on prison money, worse than crackheads, as they do not even realize that they are hooked, and they are proud of their addiction. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3Don't you mean corporate representatives that were elected and then paid for?
- MWeather, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3Yep it was carefully crafted, right down to the bad grades and failed businesses.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1There is a not-terrible documentary that in part travels with DEA eradication crews on the job:
http://www.hulu.com/watch/54312/cnbc-originals-mar ...
The Union: The Business Behind Getting High is also a great documentary, but not so much about that:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-907721441 ... - Jovian84, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1look they know because of the ir own studies that those commericals dont work as a deterent for drugs, but they burry the results anyway. which means that their just doing it to keep people scared enough to give them the political leverage to stay in buisness harvesting taxpayer dollars for cushy possitions of power. allot of the federal government works that way, its a fight for funding.
- cfuse, on 07/10/2009, -4/+5The chicks aren't that hot.
- simpsond, on 07/10/2009, -2/+3Ahem: "22,000 marijuana plants worth some $88 million." How did they come up with this price?
- ecoop3r, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2Without a Paddle
- yournightmare, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1"To some extent he's got a point."
--No, he doesn't. The point is that making certain things illegal makes them more dangerous than making them legal. He made exactly the opposite point. - JUSTINS13, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2wait,wait wait, let me go outside...
ok ready - Acewrap, on 07/10/2009, -3/+4Really? Reducing demand for "Gun-Toting Narcofarmer" grown weed would make things worse how?
- NiceGuyVan, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2It wouldn't reduce demand for it.You think those people will just stop protecting their crop? If anything, it'll increase demand for "gun-toting narcofarmers"
- tgc1, on 07/10/2009, -2/+3Re-Legalize it.
Marihuana Tax Stamps from the 1940's. It was legal then, it should be legal now.
