- Ryansmellsfarts, on 11/26/2007, -2/+50"A third encounter saw the gorillas throwing soil at a local man who was throwing stones at the apes."
Why the ***** would you throw rocks at a god damn gorilla?? - lmf49, on 11/26/2007, -0/+46its too bad that people in africa will say that this is all the more reason to kill the gorillas because they are dangerous. In reality they are doing what any human would do if the felt endangered by an encroaching presence.
There are about 500 silverback gorillas left in the world today, and they are under constant pressure from the Bushmeat trade, poachers and loggers. I'm glad to see them fighting to stay alive and not to blink out of existence quietly while no one is looking. - inactive, on 11/26/2007, -0/+44Did anyone think to look for a monolith near by?
- mrjit, on 11/26/2007, -1/+37Where are those 40,000 missing Russian AK47s/RPGs again?
- ChromaVita, on 11/26/2007, -4/+39Get your hands off me you damn dirty ape.
- christoast, on 09/04/2008, -1/+31Never bring soil to a rock fight
- solidsmoke, on 11/26/2007, -0/+25The uprising has begun.
- MrBabyMan, on 11/26/2007, -2/+24Didn't Michael Crichton write about this?
- gijoel, on 11/26/2007, -1/+18He can talk.
He can talk.
I CAN SIIIIIIINNNNGGG! - hulez, on 11/26/2007, -0/+16Why is this news? The smartest Gorillas are smarter than the dumbest humans. If Paris Hilton was seen throwing rocks, would she be on the news for it? would people say she is capable of using tools as weapons and compliment her? maybe!
- chemam, on 11/26/2007, -3/+18Ok, for a second i pictured a huge gorilla holding a AK47... scary...
- piratearggghhh, on 11/26/2007, -1/+14The best ammo: their own poop.
- dattaway, on 11/26/2007, -0/+10Gorillas don't want to pay taxes, lose their basic freedoms, and they sure as hell don't want to fight our wars.
- sb76117, on 11/26/2007, -0/+9Amy. good. mercenary.
- cnot3, on 11/26/2007, -1/+10I hate every ape I see from ChimpanA to ChimpanZ, you'll never make a monkey out of me!!!
- TheChihuahua, on 11/26/2007, -0/+8...evoluted?
- DiggityDugged, on 11/26/2007, -2/+9maybe it was a gorilla hacker

- christoast, on 09/04/2008, -1/+6if we weren't around to blow their faces off, this tribe would survive a lot better, thus making offspring who get better and better at it. sweet, sweet evolution at work.
- kevyn, on 11/26/2007, -2/+7i for one welcome...
- FellateMeFreddy, on 11/26/2007, -1/+5This actually isn't the first time gorillas have been seen using tools:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbLr2NEV_7o - rot13ubercrypto, on 11/26/2007, -1/+5Awesome. Get them a few crates of AK-47s and let's roll.
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,7 ... -- WWII rumor: "Adolf Hitler last spring imported 30,000 gorillas from Brazil and these have now been trained in readiness to attack the Maginot Line." - danth, on 11/26/2007, -0/+4Same here. I don't know if apes throwing sticks is newsworthy. Wake me up when they start using nunchucks.
- MunkeeBoy, on 11/26/2007, -1/+4"Humans have thrown stones at the gorillas before, which may be how the animals learned the behavior." What kind of imbecile throws a rock at a Gorilla? Death wish much?
- stevedclarke, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3I actually really enjoyed that. The South African English was a little rough though. ;p You'd be more likely to hear that in the Cape Flats. But anyway, the topic of signing Chimps has always interested me. Especially the ability to express abstract concepts, (ie: emotions). I've always wondered why this isn't bigger news than it is, and come to the conclusion that it's the implications that are just too much for most people.
- OwdenBowden, on 11/26/2007, -0/+3You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to hell..."
- Mrlncognito, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2While this is very cool. I saw a program on National Geographic that showed a ape fashion a stick into a spear (Sharp point and all) and used it to hunt other monkeys!
That I though was real cool - stevedclarke, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Good luck finding 30,000 Gorillas in Brazil.
- KingGorilla, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2and now comes the dirt and rocks
- DiggityDugged, on 11/26/2007, -2/+4This makes me want another Gorillaz album
- ElCervantes, on 11/26/2007, -1/+3CAREFUL EVERYONE! I followed the link with Firefox 2 and got a ton of weird pop-ups for some anti virus stuff, maybe someone hijacked the website behind the jump...
- garyman99, on 11/26/2007, -2/+4"Monkey? Are you here?"
"I'm in the closet!"
"Holy *****, you can talk?!"
"I taught myself to talk! Let's fight!" - Kumaku, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Weren't they stabbing each other not too long ago?
- Myonosken, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2No the point is this is the first time they've been seen using tools as weapons.
- christianboutin, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2How long before these out of control rogue gorillas start developing WMDs in defiance of international law? Something must be done now. Starting with the internment of all gorillas found in North America, who may be spies working with these dirt-throwing warmongers. We should also do our best to quell and repress the humans who sympathize with gorillas. For if we listen to them, we shall soon live with a gorilla's boot on our throat and find our faces covered with their thrown dirt. Wake up now, before it's too late.
- newprohibition, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Guns don't kill people, but monkeys with guns do kill people!
- rot13ubercrypto, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Ah so _that_ is why they lost.
- BTime, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2It all started when the found a coke bottle that descended from the heavens
- alexkorova, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1I remember reading quite a while ago (several months) about some big chimps or something using tools to kill big cat animals, does anyone know what I am talking about and where I can find more information? I've been looking but I cannot find it again :(
- hobbers, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2How'd you get in here then?
- OwdenBowden, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Could not agree more. Crichton's is not too bad a read - but the Movies adaptations and especially the casts suck!
- hobbers, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Then they can post about their blight on Digg.
- zaii7, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1ape escape FTW
- bdbElysian, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1That’s fantastic. A lower species is advancing by learning to kill more effectively.
Let’s hope they quickly evolve passed this type low brow barbarism since humans don’t seem to have that capacity. - CheeseburgerBro, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2Yes, and with a chimpanzee variation, so do I:
http://cheeseburgerbrown.com/stories/And_Bananas_f ... - RichLatherX23, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Gorillas are not monkeys.
- hobbers, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1That's easy for you to say.
- Armitage2k, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1until they get broadband, they dont have a chance!
- stevedclarke, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Dude, now I know why your writing style seemed so maddeningly familiar. I read Weird Flotsam quite a while back on Kuro5hin. It was pretty much your 'staff' concept that tipped me off.
