- christoast, on 04/02/2009, -1/+7Sure it starts like this but soon "Google" will be showing us where all the factories of death should go.
- JingJang, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5This is an excellent resource. The renewable and the non-renewable energy companies can both benefit from having this data compiled like this in one place.
The only question is quality of data. The Inventoried Roadless areas layer they have is not correct (at least in Utah, where I am familiar with such data). That said, the "official" data from the State of Utah has the data incorrect so I don't blame the people who assembled this data for conversion to KMZ - it just brings up the general issue of data quality. The more geo-spatial data we make available to the public the more important it is for the creators of that data to get it right - and maintain it.
Furthermore as a frequent visitor to Utah for recreation I would have preferred they left the Proposed Wilderness Layer off the project or kept it as a separate layer since the wilderness proposals in Southern Utah would effectively shut down the vast majority of lands in that area to all but hikers. But that's my personal opinion and the data they have is valid in what it depicts.
I'd like to see more publicly available data made accessible on Google Earth. Science knows we're hurting for Geographic knowledge so I'm all for making it easier to get if people want it! - Frankttank, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4that looks like a Sim City population density graph...
- Radiofloyd82, on 04/02/2009, -1/+4Google is going to be Skynet... I swear.
- absolutelytrue, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Is there anything Google can't do?
- WBWB, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2The article says they want to add more states and more protected species.
But we can be sure that renewable energy projects are going to face NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) protests, even in California. - Duckdon, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1How about a map that shows where renewables will provide the best power generation?
- mrhaines, on 04/03/2009, -0/+1Wonderful! Just one example of how climate change mitigation action does not need to come a the expense of biodiversity.
- rrife, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1I guess this makes sense, probably biased though and I'd like to know why they concentrated most of there efforts on 13 western states (perhaps they're not done). It nice to protect the undamaged land we have, but I'd just like somebody to clean up the radioactive pond near my house, so the family of bald eagles that nest nearby don't have to eat contaminated fish.....and then poop the contamination in my yard.
- bochiman, on 04/02/2009, -2/+2Is a good idea to use Google Map service in order to protect the environment
- astyguy, on 04/02/2009, -1/+1that would make the linux kernel to be "the turk" I thought it could play a mean game of chess !
- niradg, on 04/02/2009, -2/+1mirror?
- FTLJohnson, on 04/02/2009, -2/+1Maybe, but it's name will be CADIE apparently...
I wonder who the leader of the human resistance will be? Will they change their name to John Connor? Will we call him or her NEO? Only time will tell... sooner or later... time will tell. - brisketplease, on 04/02/2009, -6/+1Energy projects should go in the trash! Oil has worked fine for us so far.
