Great to hear so many people getting involved - regeya, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8Glad to hear that solar-generated steam is coming back, as well as stirling engines. Makes way more sense than photovotalics, and heat can be stored overnight. Finally, solar thermal can be augmented with other sources, and other sources are coming about...I'm really having trouble seeing the downside here.
If the world can get past the current economic crisis relatively unscathed, and if we can get some of the human race's more dire problems under control soon, I'd say we're in for a very promising future. - alekkss, on 04/22/2008, -0/+8Sure
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 04/22/2008, -1/+9google goes steampunk. So badass. Nicely done.
- Happytired, on 04/22/2008, -0/+7I read it as Google buying Steam. At least it wasn't EA!
- alekkss, on 04/22/2008, -1/+6Google kinda freaks me out sometimes
- ReallyDave, on 04/22/2008, -0/+5I hope you haven't read the article yet.
- EnderMB, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5Whilst a lot of people are seeing this as a good day for clean fuel I read this as a clever way for Google to get cheap energy, and why not? I bet Google's electricity bill is insane! By backing a business proving cheap fuel they've made a fantastic investment that will keep them going during any hardships they could be likely to face in years to come. The fuel being clean is an added extra.

- zsolstice, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4YES for solar thermal, which is different than solar panels. Both can help with the shutting down of some fossil fuel plants. This is definately a step in the right direction.
- regeya, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Much like coal, it's non-renewable, but modern nuclear power plants would be a good stopgap until we get other solutions online.

- ReturnToFreedom, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4I can't wait for this type of technology to eradicate the plague that is the oil industry and how it leads to wars and a stranglehold on our democracy.
- mtryp, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2There is hope!!
- ralphodog, on 04/22/2008, -1/+3I spent 6 months assisting with a state gov project evaluating renewable energy. Solar thermal really is the only one that stands a chance for mass roll out.

- dirigibleduck, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1I saw that too, and was a little freaked out. Whew. Although now that you say it, I'm surprised that Google hasn't made more forays into the world of gaming.
- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1I don't know why but I just cracked up seeing that bury me in all caps.
