- kosser, on 08/18/2008, -11/+74wtf is this bull ***** lol....tropical storms happen all the time, especially in that area of the world, what kind of connection does this have with global warming. i guess this proves global warming is true then!!! /sarcasm
- dumbducky, on 08/18/2008, -5/+61I've heard of over 3 global warming protests cancelled by snow. That's irony, not this.
- fatfreddyscat, on 08/19/2008, -3/+27Alanis Morissette didn't know the meaning of Ironic either.
- TruckStuff, on 08/19/2008, -6/+22Ah, but you forget one of the core tenets of global warming: *everything* is evidence of global warming. Temps go up? Global warming. Temps go down? Also global warming. Lots of hurricanes? See... global warming! No hurricanes? Well, that's definitely global warming too.
- Ninh, on 08/19/2008, -1/+12That's along the same line of thinking that blames Katrina on gay people in New Orleans.

I guess that the thousands of Intentional PHD's, scientists and meteorologists were completely wrong and we should listen to what the folks over at big oil have to say about the subject. The manifestations of the effects of Global Warming are already resulting in catastrophic "Climate Change", it may already be too late. It's already quite obvious the Arctic melting has resulted in cooler than normal temperatures and f the models are to be believed the Northern Hemisphere could find itself in another Ice Age much sooner than anyone would like.
The only ones who deny that "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" is taking place are paid to think that way. Show me on reputable scientists work on the subject who is NOT paid by big oil.
I'll wait here for you to get that information for us all. - matt510, on 08/18/2008, -5/+13The description of the article isn't exactly free of bias, of course they are going to make that correlation... regardless of reality.
- nerdherder, on 08/19/2008, -1/+9It has as much to do with global warming as iTunes.

FYI, the sponsor of the event is Koch Industries.
"Koch’s founder, Fred Koch, also helped found the John Birch Society, an ultraconservative organization that believed the U.S. government was controlled by a traitorous cabal of Communist sympathizers."
"Koch Industries’ charitable arm, the Koch Family Foundations, has provided over $120 million in the past 20 years to the Cato Institute (founded by Charles Koch)"

Another example of the Thomas Franks' observation of why there are so many crackpot libertarian "think tanks":
"Frank’s analysis of why there are so many libertarian think tanks in a country with so few libertarians is dead on: “The reason that we have so many well-funded libertarians in America these days is not because libertarianism suddenly acquired an enormous grass-roots following, but because it appeals to those who are able to fund ideas. … Libertarianism is a politics born to be subsidized.”

Thinkprogress SPAM. Buried. - natenovs, on 08/18/2008, -35/+40what the hell is ironic about this? there is no connection between hurricanes and global warming. a 'pollution company'?? get a grip, retard...

- FeartheKnighted, on 08/19/2008, -2/+7Does anyone else realize that there have been basically 0 hurricanes this year?
- ThinkOutTheBox, on 08/19/2008, -1/+5No the problem is that you alarmist can't realize that the climate models are flawed because they don't know if climate is a positive feedback response or negative feedback response 99% of nature is negative feedback response. There is simply not enough information available to to prove or disprove global warming. I'm not surrendering its just trying to argue with you alarmist is absolutely impossible it is a waste of time and its like trying to talk to a brick wall. You won't even realize the the methods used to get there predictions is seriously flawed.
This video is a guy that explains how the climate models are made along with a website that address the issues that the man made global warming believers point out and debunks them.

You jest but the two groups are frequently linked. For example Arthur Robinson, who runs the frequently hyped and easily debunked Petition Project ( http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p1845.htm ) is also heavily involved in promoting creationism and religious education: http://www.robinsoncurriculum.com/
"He assembled a set of 22 CD-ROM disks containing public-domain versions of various books and educational materials such as the 1911 Encyclopedia Brittanica, Robinson Crusoe and McGuffey's Readers, which the family now markets as a home-schooling kit. The kits sell for $200 each, and Robinson says the curriculum has been purchased by more than 32,000 families. The OISM website markets the cirriculum as a way to "teach your children to teach themselves and to acquire superior knowledge as did many of America's most outstanding citizens in the days before socialism in education." The OISM website also offers educational links to a creationist website and an online discussion group called RobinsonUsers4Christ, "for Bible & Trinity-believing, God-fearing, 'Jesus-Plus-Nothing-Else' Christian families who use the Robinson Curriculum to share ideas and to get and give support."" http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Oregon_ ... - greenfyre, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3Not to worry, they already know about Spencer. How does your link to a Wikipedia article on the Solar cycle prove this? - stormkrow, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2@serfi69
Physics 101
Ice melts when it is warmed. The melted ice becomes cold water. The cold water is melting into the "Atlantic Heat Conveyor".
"The Sun heats the tropics much more than the polar regions, but the resulting extremes of temperature are moderated by compensating heat circulation in the atmosphere and the ocean. Most notably, warm upper waters intrude far into the northern North Atlantic and contribute to the mild European climate."
As this"cold water" is introduced into this conveyor it is most likely to result in much cooler temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere. Climate models have predicted this, only we weren't supposed to see it until 2010 or later. - Greg2b, on 08/19/2008, -3/+5That's utter crap, I'm sitting here in the middle of the tropical storm Fay right now and its been only rain and a power outage.

1) Koch industries produces flares that eliminate pollution from refineries and such, I know, my Dad builds them
2) there's no such thing as global warming from man made pollution
3) there was no hurricane no matter how much the climate kooks want there to be. it was a small rain storm and now they're so disappointed they have to make up stories - puter, on 08/19/2008, -2/+3May I see your Ph D sir? If not then kindly don't make blanket statements about what you don't know.
We cannot prove that we are the cause of global warming, but global warming has been shown to be happening.
We cannot truely understand how extensive global warming is, or what its affects are...but the average temperature of the earth appears to have increased (much more complicated to measure than you think).
My point is, think before you comment. You have no idea about the facts either way is my guess. The are many arguments for why we can't show that global warming exists, but that does not mean it does not exist..only that we cannot say it does. To make a blanket statement such as yours is idiotic. -
