edit:.. I just RTFA and they already used the joke... damn it.- Tyrghast, on 01/26/2008, -2/+7Damn i was just about to comment about how after 70 years they finally found the fortress of solitude...

- KarthVader, on 01/26/2008, -10/+1Looks shopped like that other Nat. Geo. pic with the shark and the Blackhawk helicopter :)
- dhughes, on 01/26/2008, -0/+5 That's always bugged me, the Fortress of Solitude was never like that in the comics, it was the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve where they made it like that.
- Tyrghast, on 01/26/2008, -2/+7Damn i was just about to comment about how after 70 years they finally found the fortress of solitude...
- HiKevinRose, on 01/26/2008, -4/+13Cripes, and we haven't even explored most of the underground areas on earth. Imagine what other crazy stuff we haven't even seen. I can't wait for this place to open to the public.
- Gutterpunk, on 01/26/2008, -0/+13http://naica.laventa.it/naica-crystal-cave.en.html
You need to be a researcher, and chances are that it will never be open to the public. Previous experience with a cave like this were apparently disastreous (the crystals became opaque in a short period of time because of the change in temperature and humudity)- Malchus89, on 01/26/2008, -0/+6I hate you dreamkiller...
- theprez, on 01/26/2008, -0/+4Actually you can arrange a visit to the Cueva de los Cristales mine. I found these rules and translated them:
1. To enjoy your visit, you shall obey the following rules. We reserve the right for admittance.
2. Every visitor will be evaluated by a doctor who will approve the visit (or not). No pregnant women, diabetics, or people who suffer hypertension allowed.
3. For security reasons only people 16 to 65 years old will be addmitted.
4. Vistors will be accompanied by company personnel.
5. The visitor must wear normal pants, shirt or T-shirt. The company will provide security equipment.
6. The temperature in the cave is 46ºC with 90% humidity. The body feels an approximate temperature of 54ºC. The company will not be held responsible for how the visitor is affected by these conditions.
7. Visitors will travel in pairs.
8. It is strictly forbidden to go beyond the cement floor or to touch, take a sample of, or scratch the crystals.
9. No smoking or loitering.
10. No photo cameras allowed into the cave.
11. You should not be in the cave for more than 10 minutes to prevent dehydration.
12. It is recommended you take an electrolyte-rich beverage to compensate for the excessive sweating in the cave. An extra shirt is recommended as well.
Well that's it... google Cueva de los Cristales for more info. - aMammoth, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1I believe that they are going to let it fill back up with water, at least thats what I read 6 months ago in Pop Sci

- chubbybubba, on 01/26/2008, -5/+2I KNOW ITS REAL but the pictures really look fake. It looks like they pasted a picture of a construction worker in the middle of a microscopic slide. If it is a cave, those guys in the picture surely don't look like climbers, they look like beer bellied construction workers.
- MadOgre, on 01/26/2008, -4/+3Whoa. That is truly impressive. Funny how Mexico has such amazing natural resources... yet the country is total ***** because of the top down infusion of corruption in their government. Same thing with Africa.
