The mineral and nutrient balance in our urine is precisely suited for our food crops.

It is supposed to be part of a cycle. We pee concentrated fertilizer (it needs to be diluted to between 1:3 and 1:8 to be dilute enough to not burn the plants), but we flush our urine down the toilet, and then we spend money on inferior synthetic fertilizers made out of petroleum. - KingGorilla, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3Exactly

You're doing it wrong. - Nicnik3, on 11/13/2009, -1/+3My country 'tis of thee, sweet land where i can pee.
- jbmcb, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2Lucky my compost piles are in a secluded part of my backyard. Guess I'll have to put a magazine rack out there...
- Berkana, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2Precisely. Our urine has the exact balance needed by our food crops. This shouldn't surprise anyone.

- Halsfield, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Actually, a lot of places use their sewer treatment plants to turn waste into fertilizer. At least that is how it is done in many places in my state(Pennsylvania). It makes a lot of our fields smell terrible, but if it is good for the economy and good for the plants we'll get over it.
- isupereco, on 11/17/2009, -0/+1???
- KingGorilla, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1I could go for some tacos right now
- cfuse, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1I hope that nobody is taking any one of the hundreds of medications that pass in considerable dosages in their urine. Chemotherapy, hormones, etc. all stuff you *don't* want on your garden.
- KevinRowz, on 11/13/2009, -2/+3These comments are piss poor.

Do better research on the subject. The EPA has strict guidelines on pathogen removal before use as biosolids. Raw sewage is not used as fertilizer as you seem to be thinking. - dinuguan, on 11/13/2009, -2/+3Ooh, a piss party, count me in.
- vaderson, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- isupereco, on 11/17/2009, -1/+2If urine doubt, try it for yourself
- Berkana, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Sewage is actually pretty nasty--there are drugs and cleaning solvents mixed in, and human ***** full of e. coli. It is a better idea to just separate the collection of urine, which is sterile when fresh.
- zip000, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I was thinking of the best way to do so without the neighbors seeing....I don't think it's possible in my yard except after dark.
- pammat, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1In other news, visitors to the National Trust are urged to NEVER shake hands with any of the gardners
