- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -6/+21Of course they will. Bu that is no great feat. By 2010, they will be 50% of the company they are today.
- zerobriers, on 09/06/2008, -0/+10It will simply be profitable to use less.
- SVOboy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7Yeah, but their classes are mostly things that get bad fuel economy. I see your point, but I wouldn't smoke a cigarette even if it was the healthiest cigarette on the market.
- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -1/+7I don't think you quite understand percentages. How would shrinking the whole operation make a proportionally larger part of it not use landfills?
- Oxygen, on 09/06/2008, -1/+6The fuel economy of GM vehicles isn't actually that bad. They rank among the best in their classes.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5Honda makes the Ridgeline, Pilot and Acura MDX.
- jakerudy7, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4classy?
- SVOboy, on 09/06/2008, -1/+4GM hasn't gotten its act together on fuel economy, but at least they're taking some sort of action on the manufacturing side of things.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4Oh. So by "zero landfill", they mean they send stuff to the landfill. Marketing bullcrap.
- BoneStamp, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3They have more hybrids than anyone else. Plus, the EPA ratings are *****. My GM car has 2L turbo engine, gets me 25-28 mpg city and at least 34 mpg highway (epa rated 19/25).
- yoda17, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Tools are trivially recyclable.
- hankmt, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Ben, you know better than that, the only companies with better average fleet fuel economies than chevy are MINI and Honda. Every car company makes big giant SUVs now..every car company except MINI and Honda anyway.
- doingallright, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2I don't think they mean tools and work gloves..
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2And sell the occasional POS daewoo re-badged as an Aveo.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3Im not sure if anyone cares about stock in GM, but last I checked it was at 9.something........compared around $80 at the start of the millennium. Good time to buy?
- DefaultGen, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3That's not very landfill-free at all.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2yoda, you're assuming all tools are metal like tin snips. They're not. A tool here is something that is used to build the vehicles. It isn't shipped with them, but it still is a consumable (just a slow one). How do they keep from throwing these away when they wear out?
- BoneStamp, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2It seems like nobody is excited about this, most of the comments are about how much they hate GM or how much the company sucks (at various things). IMO, any step in the right direction is great, regardless of whatever else is going on at GM. FYI - They have more hybrid models than any other manufacturer and their 1000 hybrid buses save more carbon output than all the Prius cars combined. I think they're doing a lot of things right.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -1/+3GM leads in fuel economy (non-hybrid) in the most competitive market space in the country. That is, the family car. The Malibu gets better fuel economy than the Accord, Altima or Camry (comparing the best fuel economy non-hybrid model of each).
Leading in the most important, most competitive market segment is a significant positive thing. - HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Every LS (base) and 1LT model is an XFE. It isn't an extra-cost package. I don't have the sales figures, but generally with cheap cars like this, the low end model accounts for a significant portion of the sales. So I don't think this is a tiny sliver of Cobalts.
- BoneStamp, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Do you honestly believe they're that evil? Do you realize their financial problems could be solved if they changed the way they treat their North American employees to match Toyota? It's clear that you don't know anything about GM as a company.
- cheezintern, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2I was getting one ready before the page even loaded
- lazzers, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2Will there even be a GM in 2010?
- bshock, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Who cares? By 2010, most of GM's rotten, gas-guzzling products will be in a landfill.
- SVOboy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1The cobalt XFE is not every cobalt, it's a small percentage of overall cobalt sales.
- yeahbuddy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1GM is struggling to change it's image. Volt, zero landfill...
It's a dinosaur that's scrambling to keep a pulse.
Run if you are an investor! - askantik, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Proportions, bud. If GM makes more money, then they should be able to re-use more. You're saying that because they have MORE money to use that they should have lower goals?
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -7/+8Meanwhile they continue to crank out ugly gas guzzlers
- slapthemonkey, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1Hurray GM!!!
- askantik, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2Too bad Subaru has already been doing it 100% for a while...
- neevakee, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1toyota and honda are also landfill free. However they do not count waste to energy as landfill.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Well, I don't really give a *****. Just give me a car that doesn't look like a piece of *****, and gets more MPG.
- ZenMojo, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1They have more hybrids than other AMERICAN companies, which isn't saying crap.
- tnoy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/articles/1241 ...
- Scaryclouds, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2Look at how big Subaru is compared to GM. GM probably sells more cars in a week than Subaru sells all year.
- BoneStamp, on 09/07/2008, -1/+1A joke about GM's future... I didn't expected that as the first comment. /sarcasm
- HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -3/+3Bullcrap. On the whole industry.
Subaru says their plant is "zero landfill". What happens when tools wear out? What happens when a pair of leather work gloves wears out? You can't compost it (it's tanned), you can't reuse it anymore. How can you recycle it, does anyone know how you recycle work out leather work gloves? - FrankTheTank17, on 09/07/2008, -3/+3Looks like bashing GM is just like supporting Obama, something people just say to get their comments dugg...
- PupiDog, on 09/07/2008, -0/+0In other news, many newly purchased GM cars have been reported to have their trunks stuffed full of garbage. A plant worker was overheard saying, "They took away all the garbage cans. Where else was we gonna put it?"
- SummySun, on 02/09/2009, -0/+0don't think, that in 2010 there will be GM!

http://auk.kg/forum/index.php?board=1 - HappyScrappy, on 09/07/2008, -3/+2GM increased the highway fuel economy of the Cobalt 22% in the last 15 months. (30mpg to 37mpg).
They increased the highway fuel economy of the Malibu (non-hybrid) 10% (30mpg to 33mpg).
And they already led in lots of areas in fuel economy. If you think GM doesn't have its act together on fuel economy, you aren't paying attention. - jewishmafio, on 09/07/2008, -3/+2While this sounds really ambitious and everything... they still cant compete with Subaru who in the last year hasnt sent out a piece of trash to the landfill in over two years. I dont know if you can compete with that at all. GM is a crumbling company and they need something to prop themselves up onto. They are trying to create this in order to create excitement and interest in the company which is exactly what GM needs. Subaru for the most part has the same kind of standard waste and everything, but i think what they are saying is that none of it is being sent to a landfill atleast...
- diggdatt, on 09/07/2008, -2/+1*****, they will just dump out the waste into rivers and the lot they are on in 3rd world countries. There you go 50% less (in america)
- wukillabee, on 09/07/2008, -5/+3too bad 50% of their cars will break down by around 2010
- NathanCH, on 09/07/2008, -5/+3You know your company sucks when you set a goal for "only" 50% of your product goes to the landfill.
- midiaa, on 09/07/2008, -5/+2Toyotas, Hondas, Subarus, Mazdas - they last longer. Who is doing a better deed for the planet?
- DeFex, on 09/07/2008, -6/+2they forgot to count the cars. garbage is still garbage no matter where u fill it
