- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4it's free at the point of service. firefighting isn't technically free either, but they don't hand you a bill after they put out the fire at your house.
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Bright Idea.
It's nice to see someone publish the DANGERS of florescent bulbs for once. - turrican, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This system wasn't designed for you. If you don't like it, don't use it. Simple.
(sorry, couldn't resist, heh - I think it sucks, too) - iticu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You better as hell be a Troll.
- kaeves, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Why is the United States so far behind in green initiatives when compared to European nations? Let's stop going to war for oil and start consuming less of it.
- iticu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Who cares?
God, the company is trying to do a good thing for themselves, and in the process they are helping other people. It's not like you're being forced to buy from them.
Gah. - rnwen2750, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Is there even a way to recycle bulbs here in the states?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Seriously...do we really need to go over this again? How if EVERY SINGLE CFL was thrown away to the landfill, and if 100% of hte mercury in those bulbs actually made its way to the ground (which would not happen) that it would still be much LESS mercury released into the environment than the excess energy needs that a egular light bulb creates.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They used to! One of the very first fire brigades was formed by London insurance companies who found it was cheaper to put out a fire than to pay for the damages. However, they refused to put out fires on houses that they didn't insure :/
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2a) Most cameras are in the square mile of London and in low concentrations everywhere else
b) Most cameras are controlled by private companies, not the government
c) We still have full habeas corpus rights, you don't
d) The UK is still higher on the World freedom index than the US
Idiot. - rnwen2750, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have never seen a recycling center with a light bulb receptacle even though I live in yuppie-scum suburbia with more aging hippies than almost anywhere else in the state.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Just because you are ignorant of these kinds of prgorams in the US does not mean they don't exist. Ther are lotsof places to recycle bulbs in the US.
- iticu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This system wasn't designed for you. If you don't like it, don't use it. Simple.
- oldhick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wrong.
- iticu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why does the comment system make double posts? =(
- pak314, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So one store in London offers this service and you are complaining that the US is behinds on green initiatives? I know a few stores in my area (in California) that allow disposal of cell phones and batteries. My garbage disposal company allows free disposal of light bulbs, cell phones, batteries and computers to residents of our city. Yeah it is not truely free in that they eventually charge us all but then nothing is truely free.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I have done research your stupiud worthless *****. The amount of mercury in the bulbs is so tiny that even if 100% of hte bulbs used were thorwn away instead of recycled (which is not going to happen), and 100% of those broke in the landfill (whcih is not going to happen) and 100% of hte mercury seeped out of those bulbs (which is not going to happen) the amount of mercury released into the environment would still be FAR LESS than the gaseous mercury released into the environment due to the excess energy needed to power a regualr lightbulb.
And before you whine like hte little bitch that you are about how we should be using cleaner energy then, well..WE AREN'T. And we won't be for the foreseeable future. Hence, less mercury gets into the environment (by far) when you use a CFL. - GiggleStick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Are you that angry German kid? Maybe you wouldn't get dugg down so much if you calmed down a bit. Also, don't neglect the dangers of personal exposure to Mercury from fluorescent bulbs. It can cause a number of symptoms, such as uncontrolled anger or madness, which it seems like you might be aware.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just thought i'd simplify it for you
- barkingmoonbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Still getting Dugg down.
Proves my point though :=) - FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Okie Dokie Buddy, Do some research on mercury in them.
you're david Sasuki aren't you? - carlingford, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0why do I think you still live with your mom?
- barkingmoonbat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Sorry. My comment wasn't PC enough. Ok, I'll try again. THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. IN FACT WE SHOULD ALL GO TO LIVE AS HUNTER GATHERERS SO THAT WE HAVE NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER ON THE ENVINONMENT. How's that?
Damn sheep on Digg....... - lazerus9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'm sure there is an important message in your post somewhere although it's obscured by your inability to express yourself.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Better idea kill off 2 billion people 1. it would stop global warming. 2. it would save the rain forest. 3. Mandatory abortions for 15 years to thin out earths population. 3. Make it illegal to eat meat punishable by death .
- lazerus9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Perhaps your projecting? You are the property of Charles Mum after all! .....But at least you still have digg to assert your manhood, Very brave!
- lazerus9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0You are on a frigid little rock prison marooned in the North Sea, owing your very existence to the fact that the US still sees fit to allow our warm gentle Gulf Stream to sustain you . You are the North Sea equivalent of our Alcatraz Island Prison. World Freedom Index, that sounds like a George Orwell construct, "War is peace, freedom is slavery" Was this organization created in the UK? I can see that you are a true defender of the Crown!
- oldhick, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I personally loathe energy saving light bulbs, specifically fluorescent lights. Negative mental and physical health aspects aside, we seriously lack the capacity to contain the threat to our local environments. Even with these programs, people are going to throw away bulbs and that mercury is going into landfills and water tables... I give these guys credit for being honest about the challenges. "Currently the majority of used light bulbs go to landfill sites, where glass and metal go to waste. More importantly energy saving light bulbs must be recycled as they contain sodium and mercury, which are hazardous materials."
- barkingmoonbat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Or, you could just throw them in the bin.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Except that they are no danger at all. Please, don't post all the ***** that the fear mongering websites spew . They have al been proven to be ***** exaggerations.
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You spelt "STUPID" wrong.
Ironic? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1So, you don't understand the difference between spelling something wrong and a typo? You reallyt ARE worthless. Seriously...tell me...does your mother admit that you are her son? Or is she too embarrassed to?
- oldhick, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2That's a fact that escapes most people. It ruins the whole socialism thing...
- theoallardyce, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2What the hell is in it for me? I doubt recycling light bulbs is cost or environmentally efficient. Most recycling is a load of rubbish that has to be subsidised and actually creates more pollution than creating from scratch.
- lazerus9, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Wow! In England you still have the freedom to recycle your light bulbs? I bet the cameras will watch you to make sure you do it properly!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Lots of places. Most bounties have recycling programs which include lightbulbs.
- designer, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3Using tax dollars to pay for a program does not make that program free.
What is Digg?
