Judging by your avatar, you must mean the USA.
Judging by your statements, you're an idiot. - ygeoff419, on 07/11/2009, -0/+15Brilliant! Inventions for humanity, not for profit. Products like these are very inspiring!
BassMastr, how can someone who knows how to operate a computer and access the interwebz be so dumb, your stupidity has insulted America.... why don't you move? - WordsnCollision, on 07/10/2009, -0/+13Perhaps somebody else was already somewhere.
- kingofinternet, on 07/11/2009, -0/+13we've been doing this at our sietch forever.
- foxtrot3, on 07/11/2009, -0/+13Amazing simple technology.
- jcc6655, on 07/11/2009, -0/+11I'm sure people pulling water from the air dont have the resources to move.
- coachdvc, on 07/11/2009, -0/+9I would volunteer to be a "fog catcher." Any kind of "catcher" seems like a cool job.
- y2ace2, on 07/11/2009, -0/+8Fog Catching is actually my Masters Thesis and I'm getting a real kick out of these replies...

- saminfused, on 07/10/2009, -1/+9or.. that maybe their original source of drinking water had become contaminated by industry and now it's too late to move?
- KingGorilla, on 07/11/2009, -0/+7Did you know there's a reply button
- Jimbob200, on 07/11/2009, -0/+7lol dune
- SadMartigan, on 07/11/2009, -0/+6Pretty neat-o. I've always been fascinated with the way some trees do this here in Spain. Some types of tamarisk I've seen literally dripping water like rain on particularly humid days.
- BossKey, on 07/11/2009, -0/+5If you help these people improve conditions at home, like creating a source of water where there was not one before, they will not feel a need to leave home. They will be happy in their home country and you do not need to complain about immigrants coming to yours.
If you tell them they need to move, they will seek the place where everything is better than in their country. They will come to yours.
Your attitude prevents people from creating solutions where they are, and encourages people all migrating and cramming into the same "better" location where all the food, water, power, and freedom already is. It's better for everyone if food, water, power, and freedom can be created wherever possible. - jasorn, on 07/11/2009, -1/+6Until the lawmakers decide that's stealing water from other places like they do in too many places in the US.
- BossKey, on 07/11/2009, -1/+6Some kinds of "catching" have to deal with certain kinds of "pitching"
- Leopards, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4Thought provoking, when you realize that the conditions this is supposed to remedy were man made in the first place by cutting down all the trees! Many forested areas of the world that were near sea coasts have become arid and desert like since the trees were all cut down for timber!!

- BobbyFansRPpl2, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3A lot of epiphytes rely on fog to carry nutrients to themselves and the trees they live on. Reducing this fog could have a drastic effect on the local flora.
I realize that comment is a little insensitive to the villagers, but any dynamic change to the landscape could have harsher consequences than previously assumed. - WordsnCollision, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3Are you BassMastr baiting?
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -1/+4Worm sign!
- groo68, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Maybe they like living there, It was worth it to them to put up the water nets. They aren't asking volunteers to move them, only to help them get water.
- Joe_rigby, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2This is a great story, great read.
- GenerousLinus, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Shut up Holden.
- mksmothers, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2plant more trees
- Lunarsight, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2This is an ingenius idea they have here.
I'm assuming the water is stored in the nets, but how do they extract it from the nets, exactly? (It didn't specify in the article.)
I'm wondering if this technology can be taken a step further - is there any way the fog collectors can be manipulated/modified to generate electricity? I know when you have enough water, you can send it through turbines to do this, but I'm not certain if a few hundred gallons a day would be enough. - SadMartigan, on 07/11/2009, -1/+2when a body catch a body...
- gigi52, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1In poor areas/countries, they needed the wood for building shelter, fuel, etc., not realizing what would occur when it was all gone. This allows the trees to grow again and to come full circle. Marvelous work by those people.
- DesertTripper, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Huh? Many tribes around here use the word "Indian" in their official name, as in "San Manuel Band of Mission Indians."
I'm usually one of the first to speak up about the historic mistreatment of native peoples around the world, but this politically correct nonsense has reached insanity levels.
The most egregious example I've heard to date is the white student from South Africa who was denied an African-American scholarship -- though he is African-American in every sense of the term.
Hell, the UNCF still have the word "Negro" in their name! The day they change their name to the UAACF, the pussification of modern America will be complete.
A (sane) mind is a terrible thing to waste. - blingbin, on 07/11/2009, -5/+5Aboriginal or Native American/Canadian, Indian is such an ignorant term

- BassMastr, on 07/10/2009, -11/+3O my bad...I forgot there are only a few countries that welcome immigrants and those who want to start a new life and the rest of the world spends their time vilifying these places.
- BassMastr, on 07/10/2009, -28/+5Or they could relocate themselves and their families to somewhere where there is water...
