- ekin09, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Exactly... Although, by the sounds of it.. we are going to have to fight to keep it Canadian.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4We're not going to have to "fight", we are going to have to debate, discuss and be smart. There is not doubt at all.
Canada, Denmark and Russia are the only parties with a claim, we are peaceful people. We dont need the fcuking yanks firing the situation up.
We can discuss it in the UN. There is no problem with being reasonable people about this...- ekin09, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Don't take when I say "fight" literally............ Remember I am Canadian too and agree with you 100%
- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3Oh wow man , I luv the little twigs you are holding , I'm pretty sure you'll have the big mean ugly northern bear with bigger teeth and very nasty long razor sharp claws really scared !

- uberchaoslord, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Agreed - per capita canada has one of the highest proliferations of internet and high-speed internet in the world. In Alberta in particular, the government paid to have fibre wired to every little backwater community so they could have reasonably priced high-speed internet.
- GodsDragon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I AM CANADIAN
- Rukaribe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, and also we all use MSN Messenger (WLM I guess now) instead of AIM, and Facebook instead of MySpace.
- patthew, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I wasn't even aware they had computers in Canada.
- Rukaribe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1We actually have a really advanced wireless data system because trying to dig trenches for all the wires in the frozen ground was too difficult...
- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1No Santa dressed in a Red Army suit ! , is coming to claim it all except for the US sector thanks having MAD where Canada has none !
- supaklaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11The Canadian military is actually building bases on the northern coastline... for good reason.

- Klok, on 10/10/2007, -27/+2I'm prepared to share with the Canadians, but it belongs to the Danes :)
- Railer, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Danes can bite my Canadian Ass.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Dont be an arse, we can settle this with the Danes without name calling. Grow up.
- Railer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Look some tries to steal your car you catch him the act, he then tells you I'm prepared to "share" the car with you even though it's actually his. If you didn't call him an ***** and kick him the nuts, your either a complete pussy coward or a total moron, could you clarify which you are?
Look Canada has bases up there for hundreds of years and had sovereignty for the same amount of time, just because Russia and the Danes want to claim ownership now because of potential oil rights as if it was theirs all along? Where are THEIR BASES?
I'd like to see Russia pull this ***** with Alaska showing there is a land bridge across the Bering Straight therefore they can claim Alaska?
So again I say: THE DANES CAN BITE MY CANADIAN ASS!
- Railer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Look some tries to steal your car you catch him the act, he then tells you I'm prepared to "share" the car with you even though it's actually his. - wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm prepared to share with the Dutch, but it belongs to the Canadians :)
Perhaps we could establish a tri-lateral protectorate (Danish/Russian/Canadian) and govern it together? Reasonable people can agree.
- Railer, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Danes can bite my Canadian Ass.
- PatNolan, on 10/10/2007, -9/+15It's mine. I found it and you can't have it.

- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -4/+2It's "I for one welcome out new _______".
And who cares about the arctic; it's just ice and it will be melted in a few (hundred?) years. the antarctic has actual landmass underneath the ice and will soon be a tropical paradise... with polar bears... wait, this sounds like LOST.- iVision, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What you mean who cares about the arctic? Are you insane? There is many natural resources up there like diamonds and natural gas. Canada need to do more to protect our north.
- evlpanda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Polar bears in Antarctica?

- ibecerfoozled, on 10/10/2007, -6/+22does anyone else think we should be worrying more about where all that melted ice is going?
- Rukaribe, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4The oceans surface is 300,000,000 square kilometres. We'll be fine.
- IEatBrains, on 10/10/2007, -13/+7IMO Iran.
- schnikies79, on 10/10/2007, -12/+6How about no one? Countries only own a few miles out past their shores, why does this not apply to the artic? I am aware that there is dry land in the artic circle, but not everywhere.
- Nothlit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5From Wikipedia:
"An exclusive economic zone extends for 200 nautical miles (370 km) beyond the baselines of the territorial sea, thus it includes the territorial sea and its contiguous zone. A coastal nation has control of all economic resources within its exclusive economic zone, including fishing, mining, oil exploration, and any pollution of those resources."

- mapez, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17I wish Stephen Harper wasn't such a pussy and would assert our sovereignty.. It is to the bad the Liberals cannot get their ***** together either.
- Yazilliclick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Well it's not saying much but he's done a heck of alot more than anybody else recently.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Like hell he has. Harper is a corrupt hack. The Non-Progressive Conservatives are a hodge-podge of unsupported radical politics in Canada that has only managed to get some power because Canadians were worried about Liberal entrenchment.
We need proportional representation so that people can vote their conscience instead of voting against something. When Canadians are more correctly able to express themselves at the ballot box, the Conservatives are dead.
Harper is a clown.

- Rukaribe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8All political parties in Canada have been slack on the issue. Everyone is all talk and no execution so far. But now it actually matters.
- Yazilliclick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Well it's not saying much but he's done a heck of alot more than anybody else recently.

- truegodofwar, on 10/10/2007, -12/+4The arctic is an ocean in international waters...no one owns it.
- rush378, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I say the Inuit get it and they can make their own unpopulated country out of it in addition to Nunavut.
- anchorman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11The people who already live in the arctic should be the ones who determine how it is used. Or... are we gonna go back to the days of cowboys and indians?
Since there are people who live there... should not they have the say... or do the need nukes for anybody to notice them?- regedit2D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yeah kind of. In this world if you can't make a nuke you're not a concern to anyone.
- Tilon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Or... are we gonna go back to the days of cowboys and indians?"
We never left those days, buddy. Wake up. People suck.
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -16/+11No country "owns" the Arctic. Shut the ***** up.
- unorginalityftw, on 10/10/2007, -10/+0Canada owns part of it, at current Denmark owns the other portion what with Greenland and all. Course, the Canadian government is a retard because they told Denmark to shove off when they said "let's share" and thus removing a potential ally. From the tactical stand point, we are SO in for a long long haul on this.
- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Didn't your daddy teach the folly of poking a northern bear with a twig !
- MattCairns, on 10/10/2007, -7/+10...Canada of course. It is between Canada or Russia and if the US tries to take it since they have no claim in the matter then we will blow the ***** out of them.
- heystoopid, on 10/14/2007, -4/+4With what , that be the question ?
- JediPrime, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2And America would let you?
- effedup, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Who cares what America thinks? Who made them the world police? Soon America won't be an issue. No money, other emerging super powers, etc.. We're not scared of you anymore.
- adoggz, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3who cares, the U.S. already has the moon. Only a matter of time till we start chargen for the moonlight we be given y'all.
- blitzer, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20We should settle this once and for all.. in a hockey tournament.. played in the North poll
- iVision, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Canada would win hands down, and it's spelled pole.
- aelder, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I thought America got all your good players though. 'Least that's what my Canadian acquaintances complain about.
- razrielle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2nah Canadian girls can beat most of united states hockey players
- effedup, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1America buys up all our good players for the NHL but when it comes down to things like the Olympics they all play for the home team (and kill. Senior/Jr/Womens - take it all.)

- cmpshotty, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12The USA will back Canada's claim and then we'll share like a good happy little North American family.
- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The problem is USA is far too busy fixated on the Middle East's cheap oil , there for the taking by the man with the biggest gun and most Americans could not even remotely find Canada even with a map and directions , so why should they care ?
- bobzibub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Never backed our claim to the North West Passage. Even though we think the Mississippi river is all theirs.
Thanks pal! - wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2No thanks. Canada doesn't need your help. Go back to helping Iraq. We're doing just fine.
- ImYourRealDad, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Gentlemen, gentlemen, please...This can all be settled easily...through a world wide DDR tournament!
Except Japan, they can't compete. - BlackAle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Everyone
- ZenFountain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Canadian or American it doesn't matter, good old NAFTA guarantees the Canadians have to sell a sizable portion of their gas to America and vice versa if America stakes it.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Except that Canadian Domestic Economic Policy will govern the enterprises.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Except that Canadian Domestic Economic Policy will govern the enterprises.
- futuretheory, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Well if flags count, then the moon belongs to the U.S.A.
- johnjhuan888, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3TopGear owns it :P
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I say instead of some pansy demilitarized "Treaty System" like we have in the antartic, we agree that nobody owns the arctic but anyone may throw their hat in the ring and fight for it. Make the arctic a highly militarized no holds barred battlegrounds where any and every nation dukes it out regardless of existing treaty.... I'm thinking fighting robots.
- Screwy1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2nice thinking outside the box.
- JimXugle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3If the Russians own the north pole by planting the flag there, does that mean the United States owns the Moon?
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You dont know that the fcuk your talking about. International diplomacy have created treaty to govern borders and off-shore rights. Its not a goddamn free-for-all.
You cant be that fcuking stupid.- Tilon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't think he's the one that's 'fcuking stupid'.
You actually think treaties mean something in this modern era with the US? rofl.
- Tilon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't think he's the one that's 'fcuking stupid'.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You dont know that the fcuk your talking about. International diplomacy have created treaty to govern borders and off-shore rights. Its not a goddamn free-for-all.
- rwcmjack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Limit it to 200 miles passed your coast line and thats it - this continental shelf thing is nonsense - and anyone thinking they will be drilling in 14,000 feet of water will not be getting very far
- giveer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Ellesmere Island (part of Canada) - is the land that goes the furthest north... Plus, Canada already (deeply) covers the magnetic north pole.
This will only be a tricky situation in so far that technically, it currently "belongs" to no one. - There's no land to fight over. Placing a flag there, at the end of the UN and global recognition's day, doesn't actually mean anything. I am biased, but I say it should go to Canada. - charman2k6, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10The Arctic belongs to Canada!
- Velnich, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I'm fantasizing about a perfect world where Canada asserts their control of the area and is backed by the UN, then refuses to mine the oil out of natural concerns.
- tecknopuppy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The fight for the last territory on earth unclaimed can go down to be a bloody mess, I say that the Canadians and the Russians should just split it up accordingly.
- anarchytv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The penguins and seals were there first, they own it.
- powerhouse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The penguins and seals are lawless savages.
- powderedsnow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1there are no penguins in the arctic........
- anarchytv, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I think we've just found a new home for the Pirate Bay. Can lay your fat fiber pipes from our location direct to all juicy points on the globe, including Europe, North America, and Russia. All packets will travel through an Artic switching station.
I declare the Artic a free and independent sovereign nation. All penguins, seals, polar bears, and other wildlife are granted citizenship status. Any attack on any one of them shall be considered an attack on all of us, and an act of war.- Screwy1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1but the infighting is terrible
I will fight for the grossly undermanned penguin population.
- Screwy1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1but the infighting is terrible
- digsig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think Iceland should get the pole. They're putting up a hydrogen economy anyway, so they wouldn't do much drilling.
Now, seriously, even if Russia delivers evidence and is awarded the Lomonosov ridge triangle (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/6925853.stm), there's plenty of exclusive rights on the rest of the arctic for Canada, Norway and Denmark. If not, they can split the damn area in 5 equal pieces. Anyway, it would be best that all countries agree on a UN resolution to ban mining and commercialization of the arctic. - patthew, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Does it matter who owns it? In a few decades there won't be much to argue over anyway.
- spucky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The reason is not the ice, but the oil.
- patthew, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ah, you win sir. That's what I get for not R-ing TFA.
- spucky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The reason is not the ice, but the oil.
- spucky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why are there country boundaries?
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So the rich can lord over the resources and vassals.
- Scheissen, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Oh Kanaduh!
- DenRoedeBaron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is ridiculous. I really hope there isn't any oil up there. That would really make the competing countries look like a bunch of fools. Besides, I'm Danish.
- Screwy1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the Danes are fighting for it too, via Greenland.
- Motodog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Whoever can defend it. Owns it.
- britoca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's out in the open seas, no nation should control it
