- DariusMonsef, on 10/11/2007, -1/+46I think that even more amazing than his photos would be the life lived in order to get all those photos.
- chamblah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20Giving credit where it belongs
Here's the photographers site: http://www.stevebloom.com/ - brokentone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19As a photographer, I have a hard time believing that he really got that close, several of the closeup shots are clearly taken with a wide angle lens so he couldn't have been more than a few feet away (such as the first Asian elephant photo and the leopard). Additionally he has near perfect panning shots of fast moving animals, perfect poses, a few that involve additional lighting, and even underwater shots. Unless he is doing some secret ninja moves, he is the best wildlife photographer that I have ever seen. Kudos Steve!
- hockey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15I vote for ninja moves
- pictureDIGGER, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15What a misleading title, these are definitely AMAZING ;)
- Wonkanobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Hands down, best photo set I've ever seen
- RoroCo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10If you knew how long he would have to sit in the scorching sun getting bitten by mosquitoes the size of your fist just to get a few worth while shots, you might change your mind. While it would be an experience of a life time, wildlife photography is very hard work. I respect those guys while wondering about their sanity at the same time.
- SpaceDreamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7That asian elephant sure is having fun. And he has a snorkel.
- tylerbgood, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6if the site goes down here's a link to the photographer's site with all the same pics and more. Annoying flash interface, but hey, it works.
http://www.stevebloom.com/pages/projects.html - bloominoctober, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I love to see how many synonyms people can come up with for "amazing."
Today, I've seen "superb," "incredible," and "astonishing."
Great pics by the way! - paku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Where do you think most porn comes from?
- micahwilli, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Prove it!
- dbhaley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Monkeys FTW!!
- tylerbgood, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Upon further investigation, some of his photos are digitally manipulated. there is a in depth discussion of it at http://www.naturescapes.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5386 and here is an example from his site of obvious manipulation http://www.stevebloom.com/images/products_b/001706-SB1.jpg compared to http://www.stevebloom.com/images/products_b/001707-SB1.jpg
Regardless, I still think he's an impressive artist. - DevinOlsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This photo (in my opinion) is one of the best... When I look at it, I can't help but see how human like they really are...

Wow
- thekronz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Really stunning pictures. The one of the elephant's eye is spectacular. This guy is a devoted photographer. I can't imagine the ***** he goes through to get these amazing photos in the end.
- TheBarbarian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You can buy the book on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Elephant-Steve-Bloom/dp/0811857271/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4962364-2264167?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184608486&sr=8-1
- brokentone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Explain about photoshop fakes? Granted I think that all of them have been cleaned up a little in photoshop, but what do you see in which photos that leads you to believe that they are fake?
- digh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2ouch.
http://www.thefoto.ru/uploads/posts/1166998796_opr0uyr7.jpg - soil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"I like to move it move it!"
- brokentone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Link to the dude's website direct (the Russian site just ripped them from there). . . http://www.stevebloom.com/
- JonProphet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2some of them look fake.. like the polar bears, the eagles in flight, the seabirds... photoshopped for sure
eh maybe ;) thats a hell of a telephoto lens - planegray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Great Compilation of photos and that's an understatement!!
- tylerbgood, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Fakes? why don't you cite a source or something...oh right you have none. There are some incredible shots but nothing looking really "photoshopped." I think you just wanted to sound like an expert there Midget.
- judesarmy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The photographs of the elephants swimming....wow. Beautiful.
Dugg! - kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The zebras circling is amazing.
- codeblue87, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This is amazing. I've never been that close to an elephant before.
- Dean129, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2No doubt. These are incredible. Would be a dream job/hobby.
- bearded, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3What gorgeous images. Would love to see the rig used to capture these images.
- twodayslate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He is a good photographer.
- jojo77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1very humbling
- Barman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Breathtaking series... that guy got close!
- BackOrder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I have actually seen his exposition in one street in Moscow, Russia last week. There are giant sized version of many of the pictures seen on this website. The fact is that they actually look better on the web than in real. Digital manipulation is obvious when you see these pictures in real and particularly in such huge size version found in Moscow. Moreover, he has a blatant lack of imagination and a narrow range of artistic expressions. It feels impressive but it ain't.
- carl25, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1man that great white shark was cut up a lot
- BostonMa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think we first shot with guns cause we didn't have pictures or cameras to capture the beauty.
- aladin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1throw some d's on that
- sideral, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.duggmirror.com
- MarcusE, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2http://www.thefoto.ru/uploads/posts/1166998796_opr0uynn.jpg
"Flight to the Ford", anyone? - jasz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2http://www.stevebloom.com/pages/slide_photographer.html
slide 20 is funny (check the background).
All in all.. the photos are absolutely brilliant.. this man is a great photographer. - kendra82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Neat pics!. This picture and animal still amaze me: http://wildlifemanagementpro.com/2007/07/12/baby-mammoth-carcass-discovered-by-reindeer-herder/
- krishenn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Incredible!
- UnderWaterman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I dont know of any professional photographers that don't touch up their photos with photoshop...
- moblin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Eat that National Geographic.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0the photo of the chimp holding his hand out gave me the chills
- Longshorts, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0From a photographer point of view, the photos that amaze me are the ones that has mud/water flying around. I would scream "***** cover the lens!"
Besides that, most admirable skill is panning to track cheetah/parrots. You can have a lens that updates its focus constantly... but to track at the right speed takes skill, especially when capturing the motion in the background with an average shutter speed. Simply wonderful photos. - FrameShift, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Photoshop. Buried.
- Stooker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0On his website some pictures show the telltale white barrels of Canon "L" glass.
- TheCatBurgler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Great pics!
- tjstone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I agree.. the polar bear with the two cubs is what tipped me off. The shadows appear to be coming from different directions.
- Chester12, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh come on.
