- JCEEZ, on 11/04/2009, -1/+10So you're saying if someone shot you with a gun, you didn't evolve fast enough?
@CrazedLeper... Replace Evolution with "Religion" and you got yourself a solid argument. - defwheezer, on 11/04/2009, -1/+10ft(end of the)a:
The current just beneath the surface is traveling at 30 miles per hour, and the channel is 640 feet deep.
“It’s an underwater waterfall,” he says, slapping Gardiner’s shoulder. It’s falling at 40 feet per second. Upstream of the waterfall is an eddy, the water relatively still. This point is likely habitat for the blind cichlid: calm pockets where sheering currents have trapped the fish at great depths. Deep-river specimens, like the one found today, surface only when the river surges and flushes individuals into the harsh environment of the main flow.
In terms of Stiassny’s hypothesis, the finding suggests that the Congo’s currents partition habitat from side to side and from top to bottom—just like a mountain range. - brickwall99, on 11/04/2009, -2/+10I'll spice things up.
Believers, prove to me The Theory of Evolution is not correct. - BrewBeau, on 11/04/2009, -0/+7Exactly. It would be a cute joke if it weren't for the fact that so many people think(or refuse to think) that way.
- TobiasParker, on 11/04/2009, -2/+9It doesn't matter either way, creatures that cannot adapt go extinct. That's how evolution works. It doesn't matter what causes those changes.
Inb4: Humanity is causing those changes faster then ever before.
Humanity is a natural phenomenon just as much as an asteroid impact is and I assure you that an impact even causes changes much faster than humanity can. - Toadette, on 11/04/2009, -0/+7It would be less funny if I haven't actually heard someone use that as a serious argument.
- Hetman, on 11/04/2009, -1/+8Humans can be asses. However I prefer them over the other species on this planet. WTF about the whole malaria thing, what does that have to do with evolution in the context you are using it in?
- pinchduck, on 11/04/2009, -1/+6Nah. I'm thinking that doctorates in Theology are a much bigger hoax than poor old evolution. Heck, kick out Piltdown Man and all you are left with is a genuine piece of science. Theology degrees are a far more robust hoax.
- Crimeodial, on 11/04/2009, -1/+5You're an idiot. There's no debate here.
- bated321, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4That is like asking a Christian to divide by zero. Their heads will explode. For the life of me I can never understand why they don't simply make evolution a part of their dogma. Why not say that evolution exists because God created a complex system for the progression of life? Oh yeah, because that would be logical and logic is reserved for us non believers...Prove that I am wrong Christians and show some common sense.
- Crimeodial, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3<SIGH)> Leper, you've never even SEEN the inside of a class room, have you?
- dumptaker, on 11/04/2009, -3/+5They have iPhones on the Verizon network there?
- sipsyrup, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2That movie terrified me as a child, but having recently seen it again... it was hilarious
- ieatpoptarts, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Wow, thank you for actually reading the article as well. It's interesting, I would've never thought a difference in the strength of currents could result in genetic drift.
- brickwall99, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Even if the religious people do believe Evolution is correct and created/guided by god it still begs the question where did god come from?
Evolution isn't meant to explain where life came from, or prove that god doesn't exist, but it does pretty much show that it is extremely unlikely that a god exists. - homer524, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2If all you want are diamonds for your laser guns, and all you need is to be killed by giant white apes, then yes, the Congo has everything one could want.
http://zebraisfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/con ... - gordonj, on 11/06/2009, -0/+2This is the same effect as any geographical isolation, it's just really interesting because it's unusual to have physical isolation between sub-populations in the same river due to the force of the current alone, and it provides interesting examples of species diversification in action within a small area.
- brickwall99, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2No takers lol
- inactive, on 11/04/2009, -3/+4man, people are dumb as hell.
the article was cool, tho. - inajeep, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2Some christian sects to support evolution along with other religious orders. It is the stupid ones that don't. Or should I say willingly blinded sects that refuse to believe that any story in their book that isn't word for word true can't be real.
- bobbi21, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1uh.. not really. evolution shows you don't need a god to go from single celled organisms to humans. That's basically it. Says nothing else about the likelihood of god. You can say it makes a literal dogmatic judeochristian god pretty much impossible since it contradicts with the whole 6000 year old earth thing but otherwise it says nothing about god in general because, like you said, evolution isn't meant to explain where life came from.
And god would come from the same place the singularity that made the big bang came from. You're in a place before time was created, therefore there was no before. Whatever was there just was since there's no time to judge if something was before or after it.
If you don't buy that then you don't buy the most common theory of the big bang. (The multiple big bangs thing isn't very popular among physicists. You hear a little more about it since ppl can wrap their heads about it easier I guess.)
oh and please respond to or at least read my response to you in "Superstitious Beliefs Cemented Before Birth". Should really educate yourself on horus, jesus, buddha, and basically all the gods you described if you plan on debating about them. - Dimensio, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2For what reason have you referenced a demonstrably dishonest resource?
- scyphozoa, on 11/04/2009, -1/+2yes, with a jungle app
- TobiasParker, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1@homer524: Of course evolution causes creatures to go extinct. Animals that are less fit to survive do not reproduce as often and go extinct. Evolution causes creatures to be more fit than others.
@JCEEZ: If i didn't take reasonable precautions to defend myself then I am less fit to live in a world where there is a high probability of me getting shot. So yes, I did not adapt. - inajeep, on 11/05/2009, -1/+1There be trolls here.
- 5thdigg, on 11/05/2009, -0/+0This digg was a complete failure.
- JiGMeister, on 11/05/2009, -1/+1Irony!
- lutafin, on 11/04/2009, -8/+7Holy ***** these comments seriously ***** suck.
- homer524, on 11/04/2009, -3/+1So your saying evolution causes animals to go extinct? We need to round up a posse and hunt this thing down. I'm tired of seeing poor animals slaughtered.
- scyphozoa, on 11/04/2009, -6/+3Much of the Congo has yet to be explored. Everything we want and need is in that jungle...

- parcacik, on 11/04/2009, -5/+1science collapsed that dark sarcasm (evolution theory) .
- CrazedLeper, on 11/04/2009, -7/+2That wasn't funny the first 100 times it was parroted, what hope did you have?
- homer524, on 11/04/2009, -13/+4I don't know what this "evolution" is, but it sounds scary.
- parcacik, on 11/04/2009, -11/+2evolution is a biggest HOAX in world history
- mweels, on 11/04/2009, -10/+1
I am willing to be that there are more species being created from so called global warming then going dormant. - 5thdigg, on 11/04/2009, -14/+5Is this where jesus rode the dinosaurs?
- swantamer, on 11/04/2009, -11/+1There is diversity there because people who enter that area get malaria. As soon as ***** bill "my mommy knew the president of ibm" gate's foundation is done eradicating malaria humans can rush in and kill everything. isn't the modern equation wonderful: no biodiversity only more useless ***** humans?

Evolution works by repetition. People surround you and keep repeating it until you believe it and it, thus, "works".

Not very evolutionary of you. - CrazedLeper, on 11/04/2009, -14/+1Let me clear it up for you: it's what's left after bovine digestion.
- BluZebra, on 11/04/2009, -19/+4The fossils were put there by God to test our faith.
