Not only they are devastating the food supply but the end product is crap. The sucker that puts that junk on his car is not only getting worse mileage, but is paying more per gallon on top of possible damaging his engine and let's no forget that the cost of producing one gallon of ethanol is double what it costs to produce the oil product. The only sane alternative to oil is hydrogen but
there is no money to be made by the puppet masters.
If you think this is bad, wait until we get the communist in power. - djmdjm, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5You know, we conservatives were against all this crap from the start. This will be the practical result of all global warming hysteria minded legislation, in all areas of life. This is just one of the many salvos that will hit the poor of the world right between the eyes. You liberals and moderates started this with your ignorant falsehoods, and you’ve got half of those who consider themselves conservatives bowing to you out of fear of the consequences of not compromising with you stupid fanatics. So few of you have any basis in your hearts for rational thinking. You just plow ahead according your stupid fears, apprehensions and ambitions without any thought about the consequences of your actions. Then when the poor and the innocent reap what you sowed you deny you had anything to do with it. ( The DDT ban comes to mind with tens of millions of malaria deaths.) Let me ask you dimwitted fools: who do you think will be blamed for all this when you meet the God of justice. I'm am telling you right now the court is in session, the judge has taken his seat and the prosecution is brought out it's main witness- your own big mouth. You are testifying against yourselves, and the sentence, already written. You say “well we will not acknowledge a God like that,” well what does you acknowledgement have to do with it? You will perish in the flames of hell according to the deeds you have done on this earth and nothing you believe will save you from that. It is time for many of you to turn form your evil ways, that you might find redemption form the death sentence hanging over your heads. YES YOU! with all the blood on your hands yet who pleads innocent to the face of the God who see's all you do and all the inevitable chain of events caused by your deeds and beliefs. You live a life of luxury on the backs of the saints who spilled their blood along with those who were influenced by them. Yet you stand in the way of that same progress with your debauchery so that the nations of the world might find the same freedoms and prosperity. You claim the freedoms of the Western world as your own, the invention and labor of people who were like minded with you, but God know your hearts. You are of those who say let us use force to seize the inheritance of the saints (the freedom and prosperity) for our own. I guess this is a little to much for dig, maybe though one of you will read it and consider what you are involved in. Maybe you will find the grace of God through Jesus Christ who took the place of criminals sentenced to death, that he might bring them to change their thoughts and ways, that they might not pay the for what they have done.
- LifeguardMom, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4Have you seen the price of bread lately? In California, it's almost $3.50 for ONE LOAF! This is ridiculous.
This will not only continue to drive up prices of grains, it won't solve the problem. Ethanol is not the only answer. This is leading to the contribution of starvation across the world and higher prices for everyone. It does not make sense. - inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3Dug down because of bad language. Come on, surely you can express your point of view without using four-letter words! Don't lower yourself to the level of the far left.
- JustDino, on 02/23/2008, -1/+4We need to plant a new crop--maybe a few hundred Congressmen and Senators would be a good start. They forgot their oath of office when they were elected. Lets remind them in November.
Lets elect the only American running for president--he has the answers and the cure. Ron Paul
and the constitution will right the ship. Lobby people do not darken his doorway. He will not sell America out. The rest will! - djmdjm, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2It is not a "little" factor, but your right in that a huge factor is energy costs. That is my point in my digg, that the energy costs or "crises" is man made. I DO NOT mean oil corp. made. I mean ludicrous leftist stop all economic growth anyway you can made. There is specific blame in this whole mess that is laid right at the feet of the radical and moderate left. They have aggressively used the coercive power of government to stop our energy infrastructure from is natural and necessary growth, and further more have stopped us from using our own natural resources. They have purposefully limited supply when demand is skyrocketing, and are aggressively seeking to limit it even more. All to the detriment of the poor of the world.
- sullly, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Vote Republican! They'll end this nonsense! Oh, wait, they were in on it, too.
Ethanol makes crappy fuel. Plain old gasoline (or diesel), not reformulated, etc, is the best. - TheBaldGuy, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Sure, let's blame the little factors in food production and ignore the large ones. It's called energy costs - and you know it as "the price of oil". The doubling of the price of oil is a major affect on the price of foods.
The weather issues last year destroyed a major portion of wheat, leading to a shortage which leads to higher prices as well as an increase in corn planting (it's weird but historically bad year for wheat means good year for corn the next). Other major grain production countries are dealing with what amounts to export bans in the form of higher export tariffs - some on the order of 100%. This causes a reduction in supply which, yes leads to an increase in price. Demand for grains has been growing faster than production for nearly 9 years now. Use your heads people. Do some research instead of just listening to people who want to make money from you.
For starters, see these places:

http://web.mac.com/therealbill/NeuralEmissions/ABl ... - kittydee1, on 02/24/2008, -0/+0there is actually a product out there that gives more miles per gallon and reduces emissions, it is call "ethos fuel reformulator" i have used it for two months and it really works, google it to find out.it is unbelievable to me that a product like this is not put right in the gasoline by the oil companies, wait, is it maybe because it gives better mileage and people would be buying less gas?
- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -5/+1Are we trying to make sure that the world hates us? We pollute the ***** out of it with fossil fuels and then we use all of the food to run our vehicles. We might as well just make giant crop circles as bulls-eyes.
I love biodiesel. I love biofuels. But FOR *****'S SAKE, let's use leftover food to make these things. Let's not divert food from our food supply for it. Especially when we're paying farmers not to grow anything. Finally, corn-based ethanol is ridiculous. At least go to something like hemp and kill two birds with one stone by selling/taxing pot and using the remnants for fuel, fabrics, etc.
