- divinediva, on 11/08/2008, -2/+26 America deserves to be Energy Independent!!
- phreak79, on 11/08/2008, -1/+17There has been talk of America spending big on renewables in much the same way as spending big on military was used to help get out of the Depression. Whether it will work I don't know. Time will tell.
- kalv, on 11/08/2008, -3/+17obama can't do everything
- laim, on 11/08/2008, -1/+10sorry, theres no way that works. the only thing that puzzles me is WHY people are trying to convince other people that it works.
- inactive, on 11/08/2008, -3/+12You are so right people are so ignorant on Nuclear power. In truth it is powerful, efficient and clean
- TrevorBradley, on 11/08/2008, -1/+9One technology frequently mentioned during the campaign was Clean Coal. At the moment, Clean Coal is about as realistic as nuclear fusion power. Or energy plants run by the magical power of unicorn horns.
It's well worth investing in a trial plant to demonstrate the technology (now only on paper), but to claim it's a way out of dirty energy before it's been tested is optimistic at best. - XedLos, on 11/08/2008, -1/+7I cant believe people believe this.
- odigity, on 11/08/2008, -1/+7All this fawning and drooling over one man makes me sick to my stomach.
It's inherently a paradox. The great thing about America is supposed to be freedom. But if one man has the power to "save us", economically, environmentally, etc, then are we free? That sounds like monarchy.
The more true America is to it's roots of freedom, the less power any one man should have, including the President. In a truly free country, if someone asks "Can Obama Keep it Clean?", everyone else would look at them with shock or confusion.
That's the country I want to live in... where people understand that government is a non-answer to problems: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lcXFF2QpT8 - dkapuchino, on 11/08/2008, -1/+6Oooh, some big talk from the neo-cynical keyboard terrorist.
- Barackalypse, on 11/08/2008, -2/+6If the $700 billion we just spent didn't prevent the economy from collapsing, its absolutely delusional to think the $150 billion Obama wants to "invest" in a new energy economy is going to somehow snap us out of this crisis. Also, why is the Government lending $25 billion to US automakers to develop fuel efficient cars when Honda has a 4 door 60 mpg vehicle available for sale starting in April 2009 for under $20k? The Big 3 have failed, they're bloated and inefficient, just like the Government.
- nick111, on 11/08/2008, -1/+5I don't think it would be possible to spend as much on ANYTHING as you're currently spending on the military.
Spending big on the military is something that never went away. Unfortunately it doesn't create net value. - inactive, on 11/08/2008, -1/+5Yes and it begins with obama.
- zomgflamer, on 11/08/2008, -1/+5Before buying that nice high tech air filter they're selling on QVC maybe we should stop eating at Nobu every night, i mean we drive a ford focus, not a Mercedes s class.
- morepowerr, on 11/08/2008, -2/+6No his first order of business will be bailing out the big 3 with will go right back to making gas gusaling smog hogs. Thanks to our now lower gas prices. And the Idea of clear car will get barred for another 20 more years.
- disraeligears54, on 11/08/2008, -1/+5I'd say Environmentally friendly technology IS an excellent way to address our current economic crisis. Development always leads to progress.
- Stevanoski, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3lol, except...he will, sigh, now I'm not laughing.
- Stevanoski, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3Sounds like many here on Digg agree with you.
- Leviathan433, on 11/08/2008, -1/+4and I think that pronoun makes a world of difference. Saving this country is going to take a lot of effort from everybody.
- Stevanoski, on 11/08/2008, -1/+4Isn't that what the Left wants? The US to become a third world type nation?
- inactive, on 11/08/2008, -3/+6"Can Obama keep it (energy) clean?"
Of course he can - rolling blackouts emit much less CO2 than continuous power. - twiztidsinz, on 11/08/2008, -2/+5"our rigs were able to withstand katrina, so the hurricanes will cause oil spills argument is impossible to make."
http://www.google.com/search?q=katrina+oil+spill - inactive, on 11/08/2008, -5/+8Blasphemer!
Yes he can! - alexkball, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3I'll bet you $100 worth of hope
- Kwinti, on 11/08/2008, -0/+3How much?
- Spyder2k, on 11/08/2008, -3/+5It's 'Yes WE can' not 'Yes HE can'
- SquireCD, on 11/08/2008, -1/+3It's far more our job as ordinary people than it is Obama's job to keep the environment clean. Sure, he and the rest of the government can enact laws to force others to do it, but it's up to us, as people, to get the job done. Government won't save the planet. The people can/might/have the power alone.
- akchrs, on 11/08/2008, -1/+3"you must be one of the upper 5%."
who knows what the reply button is for. - monkeyrun, on 11/08/2008, -0/+2By the end of the day it's demand and supply.
Obama is not bigger than the market. - edebolt, on 11/08/2008, -7/+9Obama's first order of business will be off shore drilling. Anyone want to bet me?
- ratexla, on 11/08/2008, -2/+4"Plan B 3.0: Mobilizing to save civilization" by Lester Brown - FREE book download on pdf:
http://www.earthpolicy.org/Books/PB3/Contents.htm
"Combining social goals and earth restoration components into a Plan B budget yields an additional annual expenditure of $190 billion, roughly one third of the current U.S. military budget or one sixth of the global military budget. ... In a sense this is the new defense budget, the one that addresses the most serious threats to our security."
This plan must be and can be implemented quickly. - JazLive, on 11/08/2008, -7/+9Do you know anyone who is using "water for gas"? http://jaz1lcc.water4gas.hop.clickbank.net
I have been looking for bragging blogs showing the transformation. Do you know of anyone who is "actually using" this technology? - ImamNathan, on 11/08/2008, -1/+3The whole global warming scam is just that- a scam. Carbon dioxide is not a Pollutant, it's one of the most abundant elements on earth. without it, plants wouldn't row at all.
It is not a "greenhouse gas" , and there is no evidence at all that it "traps" warm air in the atmosphere, The only thing that does that is water vapor in the form of CLOUDS, other than that, climate temperature is directly effected by solar radiation for the sun, and sunspot activity. weather fluctuation is a natural phenomenon which has been going on since the beginning of time. Youth today are too stupid and inexperience with life to realize weather is constantly variable.
Records show that there is NOT a global temperature rise, that in fact we've been having a global temperature DECLINE, since the last pre-industrial revolution global temperature rise in 1933.
99.99% of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is caused by nature itself, mankind contributes less than 1%, of CO2 and of that America contributes 1/10 of 1% so called developing countries are the worst polluters by far, yet they are allotted carbon credits in this scam to sell to western nations in this SCAM.
The Carbon scam is just the latest way Marxists have come up with to tax virtually the air you breathe, and all economic activity on earth. Virtually every aspect of life involves carbon because thats what we are, carbon life forms.
Under carbon tax schemes, each and every one of us would have to pay Obama $50 a year just to breathe, those who are more athletic would have to pay 2-3 times more.
There are other, real forms of pollution we should be concerned with, but carbon is NOT one of them.
However, the sooner Obama goes ahead with all the schemes to tax the crap out of each and every one of us, and that WILL include the poorest of the poor, the weak and feeble, the sick- because everything, and I mean everything that we require for daily existence will become more expensive as a result of carbon tax schemes.
There is no tax credit that can prevent this carbon tax scheme inflation and the poor will suffer the worst, thats because tax credits do no good when you don't pay taxes to begin with. - inactive, on 11/08/2008, -3/+5Obama can keep it clean by delivering on his promise to bankrupt coal-fired power plants that generate over 50% of all electricty consumed in the U.S.
- zacharytelschow, on 11/08/2008, -2/+4Energy: Can Obama Make it More Expensive?
- inactive, on 11/08/2008, -2/+4Cost is never an issue with Democrats. No matter how whacky the ideas or stupid the schemes, money is never an issue. Why? Because the Dems are EXPERTS are spending other people's money. Out of money? Raise taxes. Still not enough? Print more. There are plenty of great ideas out there, but they need to be researched before being put into production. A smart man, and hopefully Obama is smart enough, WILL ALLOW DRILLING. Keep the coffers full, keep oil prices down, let the economy begin to recover, and allow the research to continue. To not drill and let prices start creeping up again would be a folly and prove the Obama doesn't want to govern the people but only advance the selfish interests of the Democratic party. We'll see.
- jimw428, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Don't hold you breath. Just more empty campaign rhetoric. from "the one", swallowed hook, line and sinker by the hypnotized electorict.
- dkapuchino, on 11/08/2008, -2/+4We all deserve to be energy independent. Solar panels for all. Dkapuchino / divinediva 2012.
- nick111, on 11/08/2008, -2/+4Only idiots believe that nuke is efficient, clean or safe.
UK: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/may/29/bri ...
France : http://www.euronews.net/en/article/24/07/2008/fran ...
Germany : http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518 ...
Nuke waste in the UK is currently costing a billion GBP a year to store... that's year in, year out forever.
I'm guessing that the main reason idiots on Digg are lieing on behalf of the nuke lobby is because they've identified themselves as being on the "anti-environmentalist" team... so are advocating something that they know that people who care about the environment don't want... even though there are far better alternatives that have none of the (many) problems associated with nuke. - zacharytelschow, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1And don't worry, they will enact those laws.
- BuryBrigade08, on 11/08/2008, -8/+9I hope not. Eco-Fascists are a serious threat to freedom.
- cdsfire, on 11/08/2008, -1/+2Then why the hell did we elect him?
- kelmaster1, on 11/08/2008, -2/+3Nuclear power, but everyone's been brainwashed to think it's the worst. All other power sources are less effective in the grand scheme of things.
- inactive, on 11/08/2008, -1/+2.
