- billricardi, on 04/19/2009, -3/+599Dugg for content, but the title and description are VERY misleading.
They're talking about a SPECIFIC kind of Tuna, not all tuna. The Mediterranean Bluefin.
‘Bluefin tuna is collapsing as we speak and yet the fishery will kick off for business as usual,’ said Sergi Tudela, of WWF. ‘It is absurd and inexcusable to open a fishing season when stocks of the target species are collapsing.’
Scientists have been seriously tracking this issue since 2005, and it really is reaching critical mass. I hope that they do something about next year's season and quota. - inactive, on 04/19/2009, -10/+345You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish!
- shulkman, on 04/19/2009, -16/+314No problem.... I'll just switch to dolphin.
- FrayWing, on 04/19/2009, -22/+221Ohhh.. so THIS is what was predicted to happen.. What. A. Disaster.
- Homerr, on 04/19/2009, -7/+202Or stop eating it and let the tuna live...to be eaten another day.
- digicanmon, on 04/19/2009, -3/+172...but that would defeat the porpoise.
- mattmacneil, on 04/19/2009, -3/+168Those damn mayans knew we'd be tuna-less all along.
- threon, on 04/19/2009, -2/+149That's what happens when you teach a man to fish.
- rivalthecreator, on 04/19/2009, -15/+144Buried for extremely misleading title. Get your ***** right before posting headlines, this isn't Fox News.
- MacEnvy, on 04/19/2009, -3/+127Literally? Are you sure you weren't just eating it, you know, metaphorically?
- Kuci06, on 04/19/2009, -27/+1302012? So the human race will be extinct, because of... the lack of tuna?
this makes sense - wild, on 04/19/2009, -1/+103You know what would be killer? Whale.
- theghoul, on 04/19/2009, -1/+91Therein lies the bottleneck.
- Jake10, on 04/19/2009, -1/+87We should make them extinct, just for the halibut.
- orion846, on 04/19/2009, -5/+90that's right about the time Zoidberg's people showed up on earth isn't it?
- GothenburgPanic, on 04/19/2009, -0/+64Sure you can.
It's quite easy if you use the scales. - JigoroKano, on 04/19/2009, -3/+64Lol at your California roll ass.
- Nephrastar, on 04/19/2009, -3/+62Anyone else thought of that Futurama episode where Fry gets a thing of anchovies?
- DforSpiD, on 04/19/2009, -7/+64***** you, I was eating metaphorical tuna just 4 minutes ago!
- gelato822, on 04/19/2009, -1/+55thank you for clarifying, i had a mini freak out
i <3 tuna sushi - mranostay, on 04/19/2009, -6/+60Really? You must not have had a lot of sushi then, noob
- EdgarVerona, on 04/19/2009, -4/+57Okay... so we're overfishing them and the solution is to eat more while we can? If we want tuna for the future, what we should do is eat less of it, to create less of a demand for the product... at least for several years so that the supply can rebuild itself.
- chinaman1212, on 04/19/2009, -2/+49how bout some charts and graphs. maybe images. how about more than 3 paragraphs with in depth explanation. my 14 year old son could do better.
- ItsMyWii, on 04/19/2009, -6/+45Shut up! Two of my friends died eating metaphorical tuna!
- DeathMarcher, on 04/19/2009, -0/+35Tuna being wiped out? Abalone.
- Perk, on 04/19/2009, -0/+34You guys are giving me a haddock...
- groo68, on 04/19/2009, -8/+412012 is the end of a Mayan era, though they may have believed previous eras may have held different worlds that didn't work(sort of like the matrix) they just counted 2012 as the end of the calendar they followed, and that after 2012 a new calendar would start, which would be essentially the same. 2012 was significant cause it was the 13th era, which held a religious meaning.
- Jayeugene, on 04/19/2009, -0/+32No, it sounds like a bad 007 porn knock off.
- Bodhinature, on 04/19/2009, -1/+33What will likely happen is the Bluefin Tuna will go extinct, and the fishing industry will create a targeted ad campaign extolling the wonders of some other creature that they will harvest to replace the tuna stock and so on and so forth until we are all forced to eat jellyfish and humbolt squid.
- TheMikey, on 04/19/2009, -2/+33Yeah. That was the joke.
- eatasandwich, on 04/19/2009, -5/+35I was eating it metaphorically a couple of nights ago, but now I have to literally eat it because my girlfriend is away.
- ChromaVita, on 04/19/2009, -0/+30I think the fish are just playing koi.
- cooleo_no1, on 04/19/2009, -1/+30This comment is highly underrated.
- oxdeltaxo, on 04/19/2009, -3/+32How often do you harass people during their meals?
- inactive, on 04/19/2009, -1/+29So the world won't end, it'll just result in a major cultural upheaval as we adjust to life without tuna.
- hove, on 04/19/2009, -0/+28The future?
- Perk, on 04/20/2009, -0/+24Yeah, DeathMarcher, I think they're just bluefin...
- immatellyouwhat, on 04/19/2009, -2/+26It was Jesus's plan all along!!!
- jasdf, on 04/19/2009, -1/+25Pretty weak motto for an entire planet.
- nwaites01, on 04/19/2009, -0/+23DON'T WORRY, WE CAN ALWAYS JUST PLANT MORE.
- inactive, on 04/19/2009, -0/+20So that's it, then. Let the Great Tuna Wars begin.
- ChileanGoD, on 04/19/2009, -3/+23Ok, what's with all the 2012 *****?
- Chimone, on 04/19/2009, -12/+32tuna will officially be wiped out on Dec 21, 2012
- DankBuddz, on 04/19/2009, -17/+36Well, I'm sure social conservatives beg to differ with their supreme logic of "*****, that's not possible" supporting no credible argument themselves.
- pennvneff, on 04/19/2009, -0/+19It's just not Bluefin Tuna, take a look at what's happened to the Salmon stock on the west coast of the US. It's when ***** up a couple of years ago, it's really scary how few Salmon return now.
This unfortunately has a lot more to do things like the ocean's temperature rising than anything else.
Also the Chinese and the Spanish fishing outfits don't give a ***** about conservation. - MacEnvy, on 04/19/2009, -1/+20The commercial fishing industry is proof that a free market won't actually regulate itself in real life. They continually fish themselves right out of jobs.
- inactive, on 04/19/2009, -3/+21Isnt that when all the crackpots think the world is supposed to end?
btw i think eating fish from the Mediterranean is probably not such a great idea, what with it being the toilet for all those countries and stuff. - inactive, on 04/19/2009, -1/+19My thoughts exactly.
DAMM YOU DECAPODIANS! - ChromaVita, on 04/19/2009, -0/+18So long and thanks for all the fish.
- Andrewticus, on 04/19/2009, -0/+18@DryCat
