- geodebug, on 09/16/2009, -0/+5About 70,000 piles of human waste were protesting at DC last Saturday. Sounds like a good place to start.
- ousthouse, on 09/16/2009, -0/+4The VAST majority of sludge is treated and put back into use. Human waste does NOT end up in a landfill.
Using waste to produce electricity is incredibly inefficient and turns something that's useful into a pollutant - so don't think that this is a way of "going green", because that would be like saying an oil refinery is green because they clean up oil by burning it. - inactive, on 09/16/2009, -0/+4Underrated? Never.
Profitable? Maybe. - MayorMcCheapo, on 09/16/2009, -1/+5I believe the proper scientific response is "Feckin' BRILLIANT!"
Please be successful with this please... - ryrocker, on 09/16/2009, -1/+5so all its ok for me to start bagging my *****?

- apothekari, on 09/16/2009, -0/+3Well, I've long been a believer that the human race was full of *****.
So this should be a growth industry. - jsp123, on 09/16/2009, -0/+31. Redirect sewage lines to my yard

4. Profit!!! - ventg4fun, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2Interesting article, but this technology isn't new. A few communities in the U.S. experimented with it back in the 70's, but the byproduct produced from the heating/conversion process (I don't remember the details) released toxicities into the air and were making the residents living in and around the communities sick. The horrible smells were overwhelming, to say the least. It was also (as one digger stated above) inefficient. It didn't produce nearly enough energy to justify the time and money required to operate the plants. However, maybe nowadays with better technology, it could be 'da *****.' ;-)
Dugg for interesting content and optimism. - janjamm, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2This deserves a good debate: "The process's byproducts are CARBON DIOXIDE, nitrogen and water; heavy metals are collected in a FINE ASH and can be recycled for industrial use." Something is foul here.
- gwtgator, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1How would i invest in a company like PMC Biotech or AquaCritox?
- ventg4fun, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1ROFL! Good one! Yeah, it was far less than the 1 million plus reported by faux news that day.
- gwtgator, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1Or am I not able to because I assume they are both privately held companies?
- pcybernet, on 10/02/2009, -0/+1In spite of the yuck factor (which is more about perception than about reality) recycled human waste is one of our greatest untapped resources.
We pay to get rid of this "stuff" on one hand while we simultaneously and pay for and use other resource to create fertilizer on the other hand. Duh.
Now, the other issue is who wants to be downwind of a farm using human waste for fertilizer?
There goes the neighborhood. - gnixon70, on 09/16/2009, -1/+2haha, had a gold mine in me and didn't even know it.
The person that can effectively process this into fuel and market it will be freaking rich. - RobotCitizen, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1"Dung" and "human waste" in the headline and no Kanye joke yet? Come on Diggers. I expect better.

- LordSkywalker, on 09/16/2009, -2/+2Converting waste to energy, with a biomass facility, could be done with INDUSTRIAL HEMP STALK. And it doesn't smell like *****.
