- novenator, on 11/07/2009, -1/+23I'll believe it when I see it. Huge multinational corporations like Dow have a long track record of 'agreeing' to cleanup their mess, then when the headlines go away, the quietly slink away and do nothing. Just look at Exxon, who STILL owes billions in cleanup fees from the Valdez spill 20 years ago.
- goldstein0, on 11/07/2009, -1/+11From the people who brought you Bhopal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster - LucifersDad, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5Why don't they take this dioxin and dump it where the shareholders and executives live. They cannot complain as they said it is safe. If they do complain then it proves this chemical is unsafe.
- seltaeb4, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5Remember: Our Corporations love us, and want us to be happy.
- logpony, on 11/07/2009, -1/+5I couldn't care less if you don't read this or if the leaders of the great Diggnation mark me as "offensive." Really? You call a remark about chemical pollution a "joke" but say that me saying "*****" is offensive? Wow indeed. Enjoy being a ***** sandwich for the rest of your life, you scumsucking analrapist douchebag (offense intended).
- Jacare, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4not only have they had the payout reduced over and over again for the last 20 years(5 billion -->500 million) they still haven't actually paid any of it, and Prince William Sound still has 26,000 gallons of oil in it, despite Exxons claim that it has been clean since 1992. the ecosystem and fisheries by and large have never recovered.
This is Exxon's official statement on the matter verbatim from their website
"The ecosystem in Prince William Sound today is healthy, robust and thriving. While there were severe short term impacts on many species due to the spilled oil, and they suffered damages, based on the studies of many scientists who have worked extensively in Prince William Sound, there has been no long term damage caused by the spilled oil. http://www.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/about_issues_v ... - InactiveUser, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4No they don't. They took it court over and over until the total payout was less than the interest on the initial finding. And they are still fighting it.
Enjoy. - logpony, on 11/07/2009, -2/+5Yeah, mutagens/carcinogens are totally like water. ***** you.
***** you so hard. - CanPanther, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3And yet they are still in business. Sad.
- Tarkaan, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Wow! Someone is going to be held accountable for creating a superfund site? Imagine the cash we could save as a country if people were forced to clean up their own mess.
- InactiveUser, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2James Hardie were forced to compensate victims of asbestos. Basically pay up or you don't do business in this country. Unions blockaded the warehouses, builders stopped using their materials and found alternatives. Warfies and dockers refused to unload containers. Recently they tried to weasel their way out of it but thankfully the government put the foot down.
Job done!
Fixed!

- Hyperian, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2hahah dow share price dropped when the prankster said dow would clean up the site and compensate the victims. what a world we live in.
- Pother, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2And I'm wondering... why now? The goodness of their shareholder's hearts? I don't think so. Couldn't afford the lawyers to keep it tied up any longer? I don't think so. Honestly I don't know, I am curious, and I'm wondering how they have planned on doing this now turns it into something profitable?
- rauser, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Midland Michigan is the world headquarters of Dow Chemical. They pretty much did dump it where their executives and many shareholders lived.
- dynamitshikoku1, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1anyone one here got an alternative for Dow33? Will stop using Dow products as soon as there are alternatives.
- snowrail, on 11/07/2009, -1/+1I am much more worried about trioxin...
- camintmier, on 11/07/2009, -7/+1Wow. Some people can't take a joke.
You've been added to my blocked list, and reported for being offensive. Good luck with that. - camintmier, on 11/07/2009, -9/+2Wow. That's almost as bad as a Dihydrogen Monoxide spill.
