- MorganMghee, on 01/05/2009, -0/+29I'm pretty surprised they didn't think of that a long time ago. Really, shouldn't we be looking at EVERYTHING that generates heat or cold? I remember when the furnace went out on a cold night, I turned all of the lights on in the 2 rooms I needed to use and closed off the other rooms. (a few years ago, all were incandescent) and that made the difference between unbearable and bearable until the hvac guy could come the next day.We may not have one single solution to replacing fossil fuels, but I'm pretty sure we have enough small solutions to to make a significant difference.
- mikeophile, on 01/06/2009, -0/+21Zombies are the new green.
- lazybuoy, on 01/05/2009, -0/+21Now that is what I call human power.
- sockpuppets, on 01/06/2009, -0/+19Is it hot in here or is it just grandma?
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+19I don't understand how the economy is bad. Even the dead can find work.
- sockpuppets, on 01/06/2009, -0/+16I see what jew did there.
- JonnyLatte, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10Soylent heat is people
- pinchduck, on 01/06/2009, -0/+7I take it you've done this before?
- freezz0823, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6"I smell dead people".
- siszam, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6I imagine the high heat evaporates it.
- fearlessfx, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6Reminds me of that story about the plastic surgeon who was using human fat from liposuction patients to power his SUV.
- firecow, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5I once found a crematorium that gave discounts to burn victims.
- shig, on 01/06/2009, -1/+6The Final Solution is Green
Yup, that's my headline. - jgubbe, on 01/06/2009, -2/+7term "Dead Heat" ring a bell. How about "And The're Off"
pun fun - suntzusputnik, on 01/06/2009, -1/+6snap crackle pop!
- TheMachine1, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4I would suggest grinding the bodies up. Then feed remains into a rotating heated kiln at reduced pressure that first dehydrates the ground people with warm dry air. The air is dried with a calcium chloride solution. The calcium chloride solution is regenerated by heating with waste heat in the next step. The dry human remains are then burned in a furnace with very little need for fossil fuel heating. The furnace heats a boiler that regenerate the calcium chloride solution.
- theviceroy, on 01/05/2009, -3/+7Uh, sounds pretty nasty.
- BlakkSheep, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4And why spent those 9 months in a womb doing nothing? Why not generated some electricity when kicking around? And let computers take care of it. And add some lady in red.
- p0ltergeist, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Morbidly efficient.
- TotalHalibut, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Any specific reason why? Seems to me that if the deceased wished to be cremated, they'd have no issue with it.
- NoozeHound, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4In actual fact, not. When they cremate a lardy it has to be long and low or the fat puts the flames out.
- ErrorLoading, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Any crematorium that produces any smoke at all is way behind the times.
- eclectro, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4I suppose then you would know how many calories a person had. But in all reality the heat from the body will only be a small part of the heat from the gas burners and container.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Here in Finland they are thinking about using the heat from Helsinkis Crematorium's to heat the city. So this is not wierd.
- TheMachine1, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3The logic is most the energy to burn a body will be used to boil the water in the body away. And in a typical crematory furnace that will be done with the aid of lots of extra fuel(most the CO2 foot print). The dehydration process would remove that water all while never having to heat it even to its boiling point. A calcium chloride solution can be regenerated at a temperature a little below waters boiling point.
- roxbot, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Keep in mind you deal bonus damage if you light yourself on fire.
- Mockylock, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4Nice.
I wonder what happens with all the liquids that seep out. - MWeather, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Remind me of the story about the guy who made soap out of human fat and used the nitro-glycerine he produced to level several buildings.
Wait, that was Fight Club... - suntzusputnik, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4do they burn better the fatter they are?
- BomanTheBear, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4There's something pervasively unsettling about being enveloped in a blanket of fried human heat.
Or maybe that's just me. - jeffkee, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4"What's the smell coming from the heat ducts?"
- tushyd, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Um... except for the Nazis were trying to exterminate the Jews....
This is pretty different. - Chrysalii, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3as we inch closer to Soylent Green, and the whole "green" marketing thing makes it advertise itself.
- shinobi25, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3kinda creepy if you ask me.
- Godlike, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2What if it malfunctions and fills the place with lbehlbehblbeuehbhhbeHWARF

- Labyrinth336, on 01/06/2009, -2/+4His name was Robert Paulson
- hildenborg, on 01/06/2009, -1/+3Even better: Soylent green :)
- slapthemonkey, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2A laudable and novel effort to conserve energy
- stephhicks68, on 01/06/2009, -4/+6I'm all for renewable energy, but this seems like a little too much!
- CynicalTyler, on 01/06/2009, -1/+3I think the title is a bit misleading, although I grant it's more funny that way. After all, it's not like people are burning bodies for fuel, or to create heat. They're creating a really hot fire and then putting in the bodies to cremate them. So I don't think the *bodies* are really adding much to the generated heat. More accurate would be to say "crematorium furnaces to provide heat to crematorium facilities".
Yeah okay. So I'm splitting hairs. Sue me. You can find me at the Accuracy Police Headquarters. - cheechman85, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2I am all about being green but c'mon this is taking it a little too far...
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2His name was Robert Paulson
- diggydougie, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1It's more environmentally friendly to compost them.
