- Andrewticus, on 06/02/2009, -0/+5As a resident of Dallas, I am greatly pleased to see that city hall is actually making an effort to push greener living downtown.
Right now only bums live downtown. It's like a ghost town on the weekends. - WordsnCollision, on 06/01/2009, -1/+6Dallas Green was mighty self-sustaining when he managed the Phillies.
- slicksoul999, on 06/02/2009, -0/+3That's awesome.
- thomasoa, on 06/02/2009, -0/+3I was so confused by this headline because I didn't know Dallas Green had become a real estate developer.

- jba68, on 06/02/2009, -0/+2If it is engineered with that in mind, it should be safe. however one would have to take into account people adding sod onto balconies and what not, So the correct maintenance procedures would have to be followed.
In research i have seen, the thought is that the energy saved by the insulating heating/cooling effect of the plants, offset the cost of keeping the plants alive. - MikeCollie1990, on 06/02/2009, -0/+2So was I...
- V1z1on, on 06/02/2009, -0/+2Do we really need another grassy knoll in Texas?
- HentaiJeff, on 06/02/2009, -0/+2yes, who says only current presidents can be assassinated?

- bbqribs, on 06/02/2009, -0/+1Have you seen the whole live/work area over by Baylor & Deep Ellum? That is what should be happening all over places like the San Francisco Bay Area, except it's not. It's happening right there in Dallas. Pretty cool.. light rail expanding in multiple directions (and not raising fares yet) with apartment buildings/condos that have ground floor office/commercial space, new parks.. that's going to be a pretty awesome area in a year or so.
- TheFamousOne2, on 06/02/2009, -0/+1Forthex, you took the words out of my mouth. Fortunately I saw the lack of the extra "e" on Greene, so my hopes were shot down before they got too high. *single tear*
- cameltoenail, on 06/02/2009, -0/+0I love these plans, people want to live togther. Chicago has a similar plan with many of the same elements including savonious windmills on the edges of many of the buildings turning quietly to supplement power. Plus green rooftops to cool and collect rain water that acts as the cooling tower. All these elements combine to produce an energy savings. Right now there is not one big killer idea that is acceptable to everyone, but multiple effective solutions.
I am looking forward to the future again, I was hoping for a Mad Max type future with me as a leader since a own a hybrid, but a think now I will just settle for a future where energy is not even a consideration. - Hellahulla, on 06/02/2009, -1/+1Am I the only one who is a little nervous about the prospect of having tonnes and tonnes of earth, plant matter and agricultural equipment on high rise buildings. Not to mention all that extra mass on balconies and such like. Also, what about the practicalities of keeping what is effectively a farm alive in a small high rise location?
The designs do look good though. - cameltoenail, on 06/02/2009, -0/+0I just read my comment, referring to my self as "A" instead of "I" made me sound Scottish. Ambien remnants I guess..
- warragul, on 06/02/2009, -1/+0"a green "hillside" structure" in Dallas...
Not a grassy knoll? - gvoakes, on 06/02/2009, -11/+2Dugg for not being about the ***** singer named "Dallas Green"
