- mikesbaker, on 06/20/2008, -2/+38What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read... if they can't even fit inside the building?
- greentime, on 06/19/2008, -2/+15This is a beautiful design!
- MikeChino, on 06/19/2008, -1/+12Can't wait to see it lit up at night!
- MikeFez, on 06/20/2008, -0/+8And when it rains?
- StevieJanowski, on 04/02/2009, -2/+9Beautiful design, looks almost like a huge airplane
- panasianbiz, on 06/19/2008, -1/+8environmental friendly, too
- SabreWolf, on 06/20/2008, -0/+7In Tibet?
- ShooterMcGavin, on 06/20/2008, -2/+8Where are they putting the Cinnabon?
- Elephant789, on 06/20/2008, -1/+7Ya because America and like 2 other countries invented atchitecture. Someone is full of themselves.
- kungfubrooks, on 06/20/2008, -1/+7I love it. Reminds me of ribbed condoms. I can't wait for the next vibrating airport
- Chakat, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5It looks like a giant piece of gauze
- 25mL, on 06/20/2008, -2/+7I remember leaving Thailand from their brand new, fancy airport, and then landing at LAX and well, the decor at LAX was pretty bad. Shameful actually, I walked past a bucket catching dripping water from the ceiling. What the heck! We need to revamp our airports in the U.S!
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5It has to be at least......3 times bigger than this!
- SemiSarcastic, on 06/20/2008, -0/+5"...He's absolutely right..."
- trekie1701, on 06/20/2008, -2/+6Believe it or not Industrial design, architectural design, interior design and pretty much every form of environmental design as taken leeps and bounds because of China and its acceptance of forward thinking, in certain areas only though:(
- Gforce20, on 06/20/2008, -1/+5*books a flight to China*
- ecomod, on 06/19/2008, -3/+6This is really beautiful design
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -2/+5Ah Yesssss! Keep them preoccupied with the shiny, pretty things that we can make and pay no mind to our human rights abuses or the fact that our country is one huge environmental cesspool.
exxxxxceeeeellllllent! - thestrongrope, on 06/19/2008, -2/+5Pretty darn cool I have to say.
- KingGorilla, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3It looks like a giant maxi pad
- PRind, on 06/20/2008, -1/+3Soooo much nicer than the current Shenzhen airport. I once spent 13 hours in that dump. Best part about it was the fake Starbucks. Worst part was the guard holding the bullhorn that played an insanely loud, looping, pre-recorded message about I do not know what.
- SemiSarcastic, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2*shrugs* It's your own damn fault I suppose.
- Born4Surf, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1China got it going on!
http://www.collthings.co.uk/2008/06/8-wonders-of-n ... - chris9902, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2They have this amazing new material called "glass" that's transparent but also solid! it's magic I tell you.
- defcon11, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2It reminds me of Bangkok airport!
- feliks2, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2Yeah up until about two years ago the international terminal at the Detroit airport was the most terrible site ever. Then they finally built a new one, but it's still no where near as nice as this.
- gooberguy, on 06/20/2008, -1/+3what about rain
- trekie1701, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1If you look at any college's list of majors all of those would be under environmental design. Well art school at least.
- ismschisms, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1"Fuksas". Say it fast.
- SimonGray, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1I initially thought this was going to be about the new terminal 3 of Beijing airport. This is even nicer :-)
- SimonGray, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1I think most people who travel to HK via plane from China travel to Shenzhen regardless of the new terminal, because it costs 1/3 the price.
- drkroman9, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2What happens when it rains?
- TorRebe1, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1What you meant to say was if we didn't blow all our money on the war, we could build ***** on that and so much more... cure cancer even?
- inactive, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Very good, China = POWER!!!!!!!!!!!
- feliks2, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Not the ones I've looked at.
- thepatster, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2That's really impressive. They already have a hugeeee terminal in Honk Kong, they built a whole island for it. Some crazy designers over there. Why aren't we doing that here??
- SimonGray, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Fake Starbucks? I've been to Shenzhen airport and I noticed no fake Starbucks... :-/
- feliks2, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2I think your definately valuing China's contribution to design way too much. And those types of design you listed don't all fall into "environmental design," although any of them potentially could.
- jamesong14, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1awesome design!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Infekted, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1They should have umbrella or raincoat on the entrance for everybody.
-- when it started raining --
"Everybody get back in the plane" - Diggnabbit, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1hee hee "Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas."
- gooberguy, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1ok but i figured they were Asian so they would have some crazy texture design or something.
- cdigioia, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Me too actually. I'm not sure which is better, I think I'd have to see this one in person as well.
- Infekted, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1same thing i was gonna ask.
- Greg2k, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Looks a lot like Madrid's Terminal 4
- Kinnkster, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Well it's meant to be a gateway to China, so maybe claustrophobia wouldn't be so bad.
- sanman, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Maybe this double skin is what the O'Neill habitats will use one day, maybe tripled or quadrupled.
- DarQraven, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1I'm not sure, but I think there are channels in the canopy. These gather the rain that passes through the first layer and guide it away from the holes in the second (inner) layer. At least that's one way to do it.
The only thing I don't really like about this design (might be the drawings instead of the actual design) is that it looks really busy.
In other words, this looks nice, but imagine that hall with thousands of people bustling through it, and extra clutter from bags, shops, gates, etc.
It'll look VERY cluttered due to all the angled lines crossing in the design.
Might have a bit of a claustrophobic effect on people. That might explain the huge setup cdigioia mentions a few comments down. - visionunion, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1please focus on China design
- dualaudi, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Wow first the beijing The National Stadium (birds nest) and now this... china sure likes some ugly buildings...
