- hello2usir, on 03/28/2008, -11/+115You do realize that you can turn off your lights, and do other things to conserve energy or help the environment any time you want, right? And you don't need to register with any websites; you can just go ahead and do it.
- mali1, on 03/28/2008, -9/+77Go Canada!
- TomK88, on 03/28/2008, -23/+75Canada is much more liberal than the US and liberals tend to care about the environment more. Makes sense.
- skillfull, on 03/28/2008, -9/+61I like a green Canada
- wjlaw100, on 03/28/2008, -4/+40Every night is "earth night" at my house... Lights out for about 8 hours.
- aprestia, on 03/28/2008, -24/+55It's because Canada is better than us. Nothing new there.
I wish there was a page for the Earth Hour itself that was getting dugg but apparently this is doing the best, so I think we should all my a concerted effort to digg this up in support.
Yay Earth Hour! I'm signed up - are you?? - Nidis, on 03/28/2008, -12/+38I'm not from Canada or America, but I reckon Canada rocks. My best mates from there, ***** yeah!
- TomK88, on 03/28/2008, -11/+34Where did I say anything about global warming? I love how Americans like to use the word "liberal" as if it's some sort of insult. I agree with certain aspects of both liberalism and conservatism and I bet most people are the same way. Why automatically dismiss an idea just because it is traditionally liberal (or conservative for that matter)?
But hey, why am I wasting my time writing this? You're clearly too ignorant to even consider a viewpoint other than the one you currently hold. - Omnianimosity, on 03/28/2008, -7/+2949000 people out of 30+mill is nutso?
- zephyear, on 03/28/2008, -7/+26"I love how Americans like to use the word "liberal" as if it's some sort of insult. "
i know, it's terrible :( - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -10/+27nice try... real countries have universal healthcare and a worthwhile currency
- ryleyleckie, on 04/10/2008, -1/+17i would like a green Canada
- bdbr, on 03/28/2008, -6/+20We're actually allowed to have sex in the dark without signing up on a website....but if that's what it takes for you, then you'd better make the best of your once-in-a-year opportunity!
- NightcrawlerX, on 03/28/2008, -8/+21Ô Canada!
Happy to see that Earth Hour is popular among the population. I must admit that I'm (happily) surprised that corporations like McDonald's are following the path too. Nevertheless, I wish that they could do more than just shutting their lights, have you ever wondered what would happen if McDonald’s took a real break? But anyway, little by little, we'll go forward - bdbr, on 03/28/2008, -4/+17No. All I can see it doing is making some people feel good about themselves so they can ignore the hard steps that are required to make a real difference with climate change.
- bdbr, on 03/28/2008, -3/+16Its no surprise that McDonald's is getting into this. Symbolic gestures are good advertising - they give the appearance of doing something without really having to change anything at all.

Google is your friend - GoKings, on 03/28/2008, -10/+23What's with all these stupid symbolic gestures? Let's turn off our lights for an hour! Surely that will help spread awareness of taking care of the environment, because apparently nobody knows there's an issue. It's just like those stupid smoking "Truth" ads... People know about cigarettes, and they know about the damage being done to the environment, it just seems that not enough people give a *****. Shutting some lights off for an hour is just something so you can feel warm and fuzzy inside, and can say that you tried as you go back to your daily life of wasting energy that we all take forgranted.
- Shadowgamers, on 03/28/2008, -2/+14WHAT? LONG TERM COMMITMENT!?!? I CAN'T DO THAT I MIGH...
- uncertainty, on 03/28/2008, -6/+18I think you're missing the point. It's just to raise awareness. Hopefully people will wonder "What's this earth hour thing?" and then proceed to read information about pollution and wasting energy, and hopefully make some lifestyle changes.
- tripledjr, on 03/28/2008, -1/+13Isnt it sad that as soon as I saw Canada in the title I knew thered be a ***** of Americans coming in here and randomly hating on Canada for no reason. Grow up.
- kablammo, on 03/28/2008, -2/+14I have an ignorant question:
If a large portion of the population is turning off their lights and other electronics at the same moment, then one hour later having everybody turn things back on again all at once, wouldn't this put a bit of a strain on the power-grid?
And yes, I'm participating. - Satertek, on 03/28/2008, -0/+12Because it doesn't matter. Instead of turning off the lights for a single hour, why not turn them off when you leave the room.
- Jimbob200, on 03/28/2008, -7/+18I'll use it to have sex in the dark. Meanwhile you power hungry Americans will get nothing.
zing! - bardo77n, on 03/28/2008, -3/+14Liberals don't necessarily care more about the environment, they just propose using government force as a means of addressing it. We libertarians care as much as you do, but we understand that government programs are largely ineffective and frequently produce the opposite effect than was intended.
Did you know that the Federal government is, by far, the largest polluter in the U.S? - Akraz, on 03/28/2008, -3/+14Oh? And americans dont come on ALL THE TIME with canadian trashtalking?
- hiPpymIck, on 03/28/2008, -3/+1229th
- dsenman, on 03/28/2008, -0/+9Guys, it's a South Park quote - and a pretty funny one at that. Right up there with, "mom, Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!"
- dsenman, on 03/28/2008, -1/+9You badass
- IEatHamburgers, on 03/28/2008, -3/+11"... Meanwhile you power hungry Americans will get nothing."
Gee, coming from the country that has a higher per-capita energy consumption than America, that's some insult.
I see your "zing!" and raise you a "BOOYAH!" - chilipeppers4u, on 03/28/2008, -9/+17http://www8.earthhourus.org/
Here's the official website. Sign up and turn off your lights (and any other electronic stuff you can) at 8pm Saturday March 28th for 1 hr - banderwocky, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8Americans make going bonkers easy. Not just for Canadians, but for the rest of the world as well. :)
- macbookpromat, on 03/28/2008, -0/+8What is it you guys mean by green, because as a Canadian, that can mean two things.
- orijimi, on 03/28/2008, -4/+12I'm not turning my lights on until the next morning. Although, Earth Hour is still an empty gesture even if it lasts 10 hours.
Make every night an Earth Hour, not just the one. - swazo, on 03/28/2008, -2/+9You're from America, are you really in any position to make fun of Canada?
- bdbr, on 03/28/2008, -1/+8I agree. If you're going to register with a website, how about registering with the one where you pay a little extra to get electricity from renewable sources? I did. It really doesn't cost that much more. Its better than some meaningless symbolic gesture.
- RogerStrong, on 03/28/2008, -2/+9That was in turn a reference to the Bouchard comment.
- desuexmachina, on 03/28/2008, -1/+8This seems to be the same kind of awareness that Christians are striving for. Enough people are already aware that there needs to be change. Enough with the meaningless symbolism and stop driving your car to the corner store.
- faraggi, on 03/28/2008, -4/+11you´re probably one of those class clowns and THINK you`re funny.
pretty lame - DooM, on 03/28/2008, -3/+10I don't know where you're living, but we have radios and TVs in the part of the US I live in and I can say for certain that the word 'liberal' is used as a pejorative and the word conservative just isn't... or isn't effective. He isn't taking a cheap shot - that's just truth. It's why many 'liberals' started calling themselves 'progressives'.
- IceSabre, on 03/28/2008, -1/+7One hour pfft. Teach kids to turn the &$^@ lights off when they leave the room. Turn the TV off when you are not watching it. Don't stand around gawking in the fridge. These are all things I had driven into me by my parents yet seem lost in current generations.
- JorgeGT, on 03/28/2008, -2/+8Bah, North Korea makes Earth Night every night...
- TomK88, on 03/28/2008, -13/+19Are you in elementary school? Every Digg story I look at has some idiotic, immature comment from you on it.
- JorgeGT, on 03/28/2008, -1/+7That's what they do in North Korea!
- yingjai, on 03/28/2008, -4/+10who listens to what americans have to say anyway?
- DocGlass, on 03/28/2008, -1/+6if you are going to make fun of something, be sure to do it well.
- xtremesniper, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5Yep that will really do the trick, seeing as how this is an Australian initiative that Canada is merely supporting.
- ryleyleckie, on 04/10/2008, -4/+9maybe this will send a message to our corrupt canadian government to get their priorities straight
- bdbr, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5You could still sign up for this one. Or you could participate without signing up on a website. Or you could just turn off the ***** lights whenever you get a chance, not just one hour a year.
- dsenman, on 03/28/2008, -3/+8And Americans resent being the laughingstock of the world. It all works out in my eyes.
