Not to mention, I guess all those game designers have been right! The ocean DOES repeat the texture/waves after a while. - Shorties, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5Here is a picture I took on Sunday, this was at about 5PM in Santa Barbara the ash was amazingly thick, it made the sun look like it was in the Sahara. http://i9.tinypic.com/44udw5w.jpg
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I can look out from my window and see it, it's pretty much becoming normal for this time of year.
- dotlizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i'm in ventura -- pretty far from the fire -- and it's been raining ash -- thickly -- since Sunday. choking smell of burning always in the air.
- swooningdisaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i'm in santa barbara and everything is covered in ash
- swifty12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Those photos kind of remind me of a chemical fire we had in the county where I live. It sent a couple mile long smoke plume over to Atlanta. It was nowhere near this big. It was on a much much smaller scale. This makes it look like stupid. http://flickr.com/photos/parker95/149616544/in/set-72057594139825045/
- deserted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I live right between the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests, and for the past day or so the sky has had so much smoke in it that it looks and feels like an overcast day, but with a lot more ash all over everything.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As can I. The past few weeks have not been the right time for going out for a walk because the air is so bad. I went up to the local park with a great view of the canyon the fire is in. It's not longer a canyon, but simply ash. It really is sad.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is a link to some images I uploaded to Facebook. Everyone should be able to view them.

The entire valley was covered with was looks like reddish overcast at around 4:30PM today. We can tell it was coming from beyond the 5, but we had no idea it was THIS big.
- kevbo32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kind of makes you want to stay inside until the fire clears so you don't have to breath that stuff. But I work at a grocery store and when you exit the store the fire is behind you so I'm always surprised when I turn around with carts and seeing a big cloud of smoke like a bomb went off or something, but it's the fire.
But lately during the sunset hours it has been more surreal to see everything in orange, the landscape, guess the fire is getting closer. - nigelstewart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw this from Santa Monica on Sunday morning. It was surreal.
- Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow. just like they can do with clouds, and can see how storms develope and stuff. {said sarcastically} ohwell I digged it anyways
- super_spyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mmm high res, i can see my house from it.... no seriously i use goole earth too much and can find my way to my house from space.......
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That doesn't look as bad, however; the smoke probably was worse. I woke up in the morning to go on my daily bike ride, and just couldn't go because one I couldn't breath, and two, I could hardly see anything. Also, I was supposed to go hiking that day as well. Probably a good idea I didn't.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I'm at least glad that the smoke is blowing west.
The San Diego wild fires from '03 blew east heading towards the direction of my location. Inevitably, we got heavy winds with, not so much dust or sand blowing, but ash! My asthma was stimulated and I got an ear infection. - cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i luv high res images...
- soupyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woah that little fire to the east was right near where I live. What a trip to see that. Puny in comparison however.
- super_spyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hah i was just joking to myself saying damn glad im up wind here in scv would suck to be in ventura
- vidar808, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1My inferno ownz your your little cloud!
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/NaturalHazards/Ar ... - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I live in ojai, about 5 miles from where the fire stopped. It's still smokey here. I think it scared everyone here in ojai because we don't want another fire like we had over 10 years ago where the entire valley was surrounded.
- popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go SB!
- popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would sure seem that way, though it really only happens about once/year.
- VaKo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is california always on fire? Is it supposed to be like that?
- sixister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, all the way in santa barbara and the ***** is still coming down. There are little piles of ash on my porch and my car is covered in it. The weirdest part is that the sunlight is orange and the shadows are very sharp and blue colored.
- popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mmmm...mutant babies.
- DardanAeneas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was right under the path of the smoke in Thomas Aquinas College. We just evacuted a few hours ago. We should be alright, just a precaution. The sky was darkened, the sun was red when this image was taken. Brown clouds were kinda weird, with the ash falling and everything in a kind of smoky fog. Probably not as bad as the satellite would make you think. You could breath fine, but doing so outside would not be a good health decision, especially exercising, etc.
- mDJstudios, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1http://mdjstudios.com/fire.html
Pictures of espola and poway rd connection. - mDJstudios, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1I am in Poway, CA right now kind of near Espola Road and another fire just started randomly...
I've been helping out the neighbors brings hoses up the hill to water down the brush and houses nearby. Hopefully Poway won't go down in flames!
(I just got a mandatory evacuation call)
The air is harsh like glass and its very smoky outside. Cover up your face! - vitr0x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This fire has gotten so bad that it's reaching the San Joaquin Valley; my friend is losing his voice from the smoke, and it's making the morning skies overcast here in Fresno.
- popltree2, on 10/22/2007, -1/+1I live in Carpinteria, about an hour from the fires. My car has been covered in ash for about a week. If this fire was caused by some jackass who doesn't know how to do a control-burn, I am going to kick him in the balls and make him pay for my car wash.
