Bring Back the K Car
greenopolis.com — Not everyone will know what the K Car was but it brought Chrysler back from almost going out of business. This car definitely was not sexy but it got 25 MPG in the city and 41MPG on the highway. This car came out in 1981 and we can ’t build some thing better today? In the seventies we all drove muscle cars or land yachts(large cars)...

- ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -0/+3This was Iacocca's vision original promoted to Ford and later unveiled with his move to Chrysler. With today's technology we can definitely produce a mainstream vehicle much better than 25/41 efficiency.
- Eyesaw, on 07/24/2008, -3/+0i think this car is quite ugly
BMW's are the best!! - bobbagoose, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2"If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a 'K Car'. A nice, reliant automobile!"
- Fangsinmybeard, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2Now the picture around fuel efficiency is getting clearer. The oil companies forced that car companies into predatory contracts and percentage buy-ins on share to control mileage performance.
- swordedge, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I remember K cars... many were little more than hunks of junk from day 1
- theNazz, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1I owned a K car that looked just like the one in the picture. They never got 25/41 MPG. They did have engine blocks that were prone to crack at the cooling line and handled like ***** in snow. Good times. =)
Dugg. - BlankVerse, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1I had a K-platform Chrysler LeBaron for awhile that I purchased used (the price fit my budget). The previous owner (a relative) had closely followed all recommended maintenance, yet even at 30,000 miles, the car was already falling apart. The air conditioner barely worked, the transmission was starting to go bad, it was noisy, the seats were uncomfortable, etc. If I remember correctly, it also had troubles passing its smog inspections. I was so glad when that car was in an accident, and was basically totaled.
From my experience, the Chrysler dealers were just as bad as their cars.
Only Yugo made worse cars than Lee Iacocca-era Chryslers, in my opinion.
