- zulfy26, on 10/19/2007, -0/+4I've never actually read a wordpress blog. I'm am getting quite familiar with the "Error establishing a database connection" page though.

- manstein01, on 10/20/2007, -3/+6I wish they had pictures of these things on every gas pump in America - with the caption "look what your hard earned money is doing for us." It might make people think twice about their consumption
- ghosttown80, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4Wow... just wow
- hankyone, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Digg should be 18+
- KingBunny, on 10/19/2007, -2/+4To me, the phrase "Zero-Energy" just screams "Uber Space Laser". Now, since the site is down, I'm just going to assume that there's a giant space laser somewhere in the Middle East until a mirror confirms otherwise.
- SiNN4R, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2Or when they're driving across town to pick up an icecream cone.
- inactive, on 10/20/2007, -2/+4Probably worth noting that the use of slave labour in much of the Arab world is still rife.
Even in Dubai immigrant workers frequently find themselves trapped with their passports confiscated by employers.
In Saudi Arabia foreign maids are frequently the targets of sexual abuse by the men of the house, to top it off the police often take the mans side and these maids even get punished by the law!
In America there have been a couple of recent cases of Saudi families charged with essentially keeping servants as prisoners or slaves, in one instance the US ambassador in Saudi had to actually go to the Saudi government and explain why in America, Saudi nationals who keep workers in these conditions are sent to jail.
Many Arab states are trying to impress with their "modern" structures but quite often they are built with a practice America and Europe abandoned 200 years ago. - slashbot, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2and I was expecting something more along the lines of a ZPM
- thredden, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1and we are down at 65...

In America.and Europe half the crap we buy is made with slave labour wages in China.

Dude.... Dubai is now probably the most beautiful city in the world and should be commended for it's beauty not shot down. I wish I could wake up to that view everyday. Stunning.
Since your post is obviously political......
If there are criticisms to be made it is that tourist dollars alone will only turn them into a Caribbean Island at best. To enter the modern world there also needs to major long term investments in education, industry and science... or it will all collapse when the oil economy eventually disappears. They also have to start throwing off the yoke of religious intolerance that is common in "muslim" countries. For instance Jewish people are not usually allowed to travel to many Muslim countries...and the one's they can travel to they are often facing a slit throat just for being Jewish (e.g. Daniel Pearl) - ericisshort, on 10/19/2007, -1/+2well by that time these buildings will be as old as the empire state is now so yeah, shut up. You have no idea what you are talking about.

- faheemer123, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1all these buildings that are being built are a means to building an infrastructure for the future, dubai wants to be the center of the world, and the most advanced city technologically, and it seems like they are well on thier way, in 10 years the middle east will be transformed, and oil will still be around for 50 years as a backup revenue source
- hamobu, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1You have that here too. On PBS. Mexican workers would end up working on farm in Florida where they would be unable to leave until ther "repaid the debt". Of course the debt would never actually be repaid.
- SiNN4R, on 10/20/2007, -1/+1I heard they saved money by using human skeletons for the structure instead of steel.
